Day 32: Playing with new watercolour paints. My colours ended up looking a lot like a landscape.
Day 31: A very small basket, 'open work' style, made by BC first nations women. A treasure of my grandmother's collection.
Day 30: A small cast frog, bravely handling a candle. I always feel good when I see this guy again in my Baba's home.
Day 29: BC Mountains. Something about flying and looking down upon the carved and textured masses of rock that line British Columbia's landscape just makes me want to draw.:)
Day 28: These Mountain #chickadees are tough enough to last through northern winters in Canada. They are smart and develop strong social relationships in groups. I also love to listen to their intimate clicks and warbles as they chat to each other.:)
Day 27: The Bulkley River. Slow but strong and full of life.:)
Day 26: The bees. Their collective death, small creatures though they are, would mean a gigantic loss for us. I hope this is the early days of a fight with a better ending than anticipated.
Day 25: The Mountain Chickadee. I threw some sunflowers onto my belly and lay down on the porch today. These feisty little snackers didn't even wait 10 minutes before diving in. So fun!
Day 24: A Lake Kathlyn Mood
Day 22: My old dog, Curry. A "drawing" carved from softoleum and stamped. This guy was the best; dignified, sympathetic, and social...almost as human as he believed himself to be.
Day 21: A pinecone from my mother's desk.
Day 20: Northern bush fills the crevices of my subconscious.
Day 19: This beautiful little hummingbird flew into the window last night, poor thing. A treasure to be examined with care.
Day 18: A strange little detail off of texiles at the Gillespies' house. Feeling quite stuffed after dinner and had loads of wine so my drawing of the day has clearly suffered a bit.:)
Day 17: Baskets are stashed up to the rafters in my parents' cabin.
Day 16: This is a woodblock, probably used for printing fabric, that sits on the window in my mother’s kitchen. A great lover of pattern, she has hand-printed textiles all over her house, as well as other gorgeous crafts like ceramics and silver. I’ve never printed on fabric with blocks, but I do love this piece and one day I hope to try it out.
Day 15: I used to love doing Origami as a young girl. Today, back home in the little cabin in the woods that I grew up in, I made an origami star box to celebrate. Here it is, my sketch-of-the-day as well!
