@thebeautyblurb
thank you for your Beauty Bunny blog<3
Thank you for your support!
Though to be honest, in my job I need to be mindful of many different brands, including products that do use animal testing (basically an Estee Lauder brand like MAC, Smashbox, Clinique, etc). It is my pleasure to keep my clients and my followers here informed to make the best choices for themselves.
On a personal note, I would love to see more companies going cruelty free. I don't think there is a need for it nowadays now that we have such advanced technology and testing. I know as far as the FDA goes in America, animal testing is not required, but in order for companies to sell in China and some other places it is :/
Anyways, thank you! I hope you have (had) a lovely day!

That pesky eyeshadow fallout
If you're using an eyeshadow with a lot of shimmer, you want to remember to pack the color onto your eye lid with gentle patting motions. You get more control of the placement in addition to more pigment.
Can we all just take a moment and appreciate how amazing the new Too Faced The Art of Sexy Palette is. The color pallets within the pallet remind me a lot of the Lancome Color Design eyeshadows - fine by me because those colors are stellar.
For $48 dollars you get 15 colors, a "Perfect Black" waterproof eyeliner, and the Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which in case you didn't know is basically the Holy Grail of eyeshadow primers. Like all of Too Faced pallets, it also comes equipped with do-it-yourself instructions on several looks. It may seem like a steep price, but if you think about the fact that it is a $157, it's not so bad. Try it out, and see what you think!
Get ready for a new, exclusive Disney addition to Sephora stores this fall! Disney has partnered up with Louis Vuitton to launch a limited edition line of Disney princess. First up - Cinderella! This line will include fragrances, make up and accessories.
Personally, I'm very excited about this new addition to stores. My inner childhood princess is totally going into fangirl mode.
Sorry for the lack of posts! I've gotten so busy these past couple of weeks. I'm going to make an effort to post more tips, guides, and inside looks within these next weeks! :)
It's always a good day when I get to take my gratis home with me.
faux tans and health
Tis' the season for sexy, tan bodies. With prom, graduation, summer weddings, not to mention swim suit weather, it's hard not to go out without revealing a little extra skin.
Tanning these days seems more relevant than ever. You no longer have to sit outside in exposure to the sun to sport a sexy bronze shade. Tanning salons are just as frequent as hair salons. Hell. I live in the "Valley of the Sun" where there certainly is no shortage of UV rays, yet the tanning business is still booming.
One of the most popular new cult followings - the Jersey Shore gang - is practically synonymous with 'fake tan'. And I know that we've all heard about the infamous tanning mom, also from New Jersey who's been accused of taking her six-year-old daughter to the tanning beds with her.

To all my dear readers, just please, please, tan smart this season.
In case you missed my last post on sun safety, let me remind you that the most harmful thing you can do to your skin is to expose it to too many UV rays. UV rays also come from tanning beds, not just the sun. Sun exposer is also the fastest way to age your skin.
Forget about the aging factor. I shudder to think about how very likely it is that this woman above will eventually develop skin cancer over time. It will be a true miracle if she doesn't. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation website, "Over the past 31 years, more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined". Skin caner is the most common for of cancer in the US even though it is the most preventable.
So instead, I propose a change. Of course, by no means, don't avoid all the fun in the sun. Go to the beach, or river, or continue your outside activities. Just be smart about it. Wear sun screens, hats, sun glasses. Protect yourself. Instead of tanning beds, try tanning sprays, lotions, or mousses. I know that so many of these have bad wraps, but they really have improved so much in the past several years because of the increase of demand. One of the most popular tanning lines that I've come across is St. Tropez. My favorite is the tanning mousse because it dries evenly in 60 seconds giving you the most mobility afterwards. Per-fekt has nice variety of shades that look flawless when applied. The tanning lotion from BLISS, actually comes out purple at first because purple neutralizes orange, making for a healthy, orange free tan ensuring you don't look like a giant carrot. Practically every makeup line has bronzers and luminizers for that natural, sun-kissed looks.
Give your skin, and your overall health a favor, and tan wisely this year, and have a good weekend!

The thing about foundations
Choosing a foundation is tricky - for so many reasons. For one thing, you've got your best friend with killer genes and flawless skin telling you what she uses, you've got millions of dollars in advertisements telling you what the latest and greatest is in beauty while tabloids and headlines give the scoop on how to achieve your very own Kim K look.
So here's a few things to consider the next time you're browsing the shelves for your next foundation in the form of bullet points and questions because I love bullet points:
What type of skin do you have? Oily, dry, combination? Is it like this all over, or just in specific areas, i.e. T-zone, cheeks, etc?
This is perhaps the most important thing to consider when picking out a foundation. No two foundations are created equally. The cosmetics industry is so huge, partly because there are so many different complexions and skin types to appeal to. People with dry skin typically do best with liquid foundations, whereas oily skin people like powders. HOWEVER, there are so many liquid foundations that are oil free, appealing to both. Hourglass recently launched a new, full coverage foundation called Immaculate that starts as a liquid and dries as a powder so that it's constantly soaking up excess oil.
How much sensitivity do you have?
If your complexion is easily irritated, you might benefit from doing a bit of research on some noncomedogenic lines that won't further clog your pores. Natural products are usually safe for acne prone skin in addition to skin that gets irritated. It might help to look for lines that are allergy tested and fragrance free. I might recommend a line like Tarte or Josie Maran to my clients with problematic skin.
How much time/money are you willing to spend on your makeup routine?
If you've got the time and the cash to do the whole dance, then take your pick from a million and one choices of primers, concealers, moisturizes etc. Not everyone has this luxury (or patience) to go through the motions day after day. I love being able to recommend an alternative to my clients that happen to be busy mom's on the go who hardly have the time to give their appearance a though. If this speaks to you, tinted moisturizers and BB creams (BB = Beauty Balm) are your new best friends. These savior products are low maintenance and easy to use.
Finding the right foundation doesn't have to be a drag if you know what to look for. Thankfully, it's easier now more than ever to find the right information and product for you thanks to online reviews, recommendations, and beauty blogs literally at your fingertips. Now I hope you feel a bit more equipped to brave the beauty departments for your next foundation!
In the spirit of the upcoming season of sun and fun, I thought I might share with you guys a few great ways to protect yourself from the harsh rays.
I get a lot of feedback from clients about their beef with sunscreens because of the greasy feel, or white tint it leaves over the skin. To this, I like to suggest a powder SPF that you can apply over your makeup. Peter Thomas Roth has a fabulous mineral sunscreen that's easy to use, great for travel, and even has a few mattifying benefits for those people who tends to run a bit oily.
Bare Minerals also has a great SPF mineral veil for those of you involved in that cult following!
I could easily write so much more on BB Creams, but if you're looking for an easy way to use an SPF without adding additional steps, BB Creams are definitely for you! They're a five-in-one product that treats, primes, conceals, moisturize, and protects. Smashbox and Clinique are only a couple of brands that have jumped in on this bandwagon, much to your benefit.
Truth is, there is really no excuse for not wearing an SPF. Most moisturizers, primers, and makeups have some form of SPF in it. So before you dis the idea of an SPF, remember that preventative measures are so much more satisfying than corrective measures. If you're willing to spend any amount of time or money on makeup and skin care, why leave yourself vulnerable to free radicals that damage your health?
a few facts to make you sun savvy
Up to 90% of physical aging on the skin comes from sun exposer
There are three types of UV rays: ultra violet aging, ultra violet burning, and ultra violet cancerous.
The ozone layer prevents UVC rays from penetrating into Earth's atmosphere (yay!)
About 94% of sun rays that reach your body are UVA rays, which means that only 1-6% of UVB rays are rays that actually burn or tan your skin
There's no such thing as a waterproof, sweat proof sunscreen or sunblock.
When in direct sunlight for extended periods of time, it's best to reapply sunscreen every two hours
There are two types of suncreen: physical, and chemical. Physical sunscreens sit on top of the skin whereas chemical sunscreens works within. When using a chemical sunscreen you should wait 30 minutes after applying before going into the sun.
Tanning beds have NO screening against UVA rays (aging) which can also cause cancer
You must use at least an SPF 15 in order to receive any protection from the sun
The best way to protect your skin from aging is by incorporating an SPF into your skin care regimen EVERYDAY.
This might actually be my favorite mascara ever, and let me tell you, I've tried many. I get 2-3 mascaras a month in gratis. I've tried everything from luxury brands to drug store brands, but I absolutely love this baby. It lengthens, defines, and adds volumes. The only downside is that it's not waterproof, which I learned after saying my goodbyes to my long distance boyfriend - talk about water works.
Make no mistake, this season it's all about the oranges!
Walking into almost any fashion forward store, don't be surprised to find brightly colored shades or orange and reds lining up the racks. That's because Tangerine Tango has been named the color of the season by Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2012, the color matching go-to guru for everyday living. Designers love the dynamic of using color that is both spunky and sophisticated. Inspired by warm sunsets, exotic lands, and new beginnings - tangerine tango is sure to rock the catwalk.
For most people, oranges make you a bit weary - myself especially. I've always been under the impression that wearing orange would make me look like a cheap prostitute. I've learned though, that a little lip color or nail color can really make your whole appearance pop and give you a more energized glow - who doesn't want that?
