At Megacon last weekend I had a deck of cards available that I’ve been working on for the last 4 months. I only had a small amount available and I sold out!
I spent over 300 hours creating a deck featuring 54 different characters from the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra.
I’m so overwhelmed by the response I got that I’ll be reordering this week.
If you’re interested you can check them out on my ETSY!
And if you’re not, a boost is appreciated. ;-*
Sorry! Fixed my etsy link :)

LOK meme [3/5 ships/friendships]: Mako and Bolin
We were orphans out on the street. I did what I had to do to survive and protect my little brother. Bolin’s the only family I have left. And if anything happened to him…

Prince Zuko/Asami Sato Parallels
Both characters are known to belong in a high class society: Zuko was the prince of the Fire Nation while Asami is a member of the Sato Family.
Broken Families: lost their mothers at a young age.
Zuko and Asami are both children of their respective series’ antagonists. They also both have abusive fathers who took their ideologies too far, but Hiroshi realized his mistakes while Ozai didn’t.
Defied their fathers in using electric means; Redirecting Ozai’s Lightning and the Equalist Glove. Their fathers also attempted to kill them.
After defying their fathers, they joined Team Avatar.
Visiting their fathers in prison (but they have different motives in doing so)
Redemption arcs are opposite as Zuko tried to gain his father’s love while Hiroshi tried to gain his daughter’s forgiveness.
Restored the honor of the Fire Nation while Zuko was the Firelord and when Asami became the CEO of Future Industries.

Avatar Name Meanings
— — — — — — — — — The Last Airbender— — — — — — — — — Aang means peaceful soaring in Chinese Appa means cypress in Chinese Momo means peach in Japanese, but means imitate in Chinese Katara is phonetic, ka means block, ta means pagoda, ra means pull Sokka means “I understand” in Japanese, but the first part of his name means search in Chinese Toph means expanding lotus in Chinese, Beifong means “northern region” Zuko is derived from the Filipino word Suko (Visayan dialect), in which the first syllable means angry. Suko in Tagalog (another Filipino dialect) means surrender. Suki means love or to like in Japanese Sozin means revival and progress in Chinese Ozai means “carry proudly” in Chinese Azula is a Hindu term for demon Ty Lee means calm and beautiful in Chinese Mai means dance in Japanese Yue (pronounced Yuè) means moon in Chinese Bumi means earth in many Indian languages Haru means sunshine in Japanese Gyatso means ocean in Tibetan, can mean ocean of wisdom Yangchen is the Tibetan translation of Saraswati, the goddess of learning and music, in Sanskrit Kyoshi means empty child, it was the pen name of a famous Japanese poet Long Feng means dragon phoenix in Chinese Hei Bai means black and white Tu and La means push and pull Wan Shi Tong means “knowing ten thousand things” Roku means six in Japanese
———— — — — — — The Legend of Korra— — — — — — — — — Korra is Greek for maiden, but apparently Bryke named her after a hotel owner’s dog in Canada Naga, ironically, means snake in Hindi Mako is named after Mako Iwamatsu, the voice actor of Iroh in A:tLA, is the abbreviated version of Makoto, meaning faithfulness and trust Bolin means abundant forest in Chinese Pabu means puffball in Tibetan Asami Sato means hemp beauty in Japanese Lin means forest in Chinese Tenzin means defender of faith in Tibetan Jinora was a Buddhist writer and poet Ikki can mean "radiance, shine, sparkle” in Japanese, but the literal translation is "riot, insurrection". Meelo is Greek for “apple” Rohan is named after Bryan’s nephew, it means “to attain great heights” Tonraq is Inuit for tiny man, spirit, or ghost Varrick, phonetically, means “law”, “strength”, “overcome” Zhu Li means assistant in Chinese Baatar is Mongolian for hero Kuvira is “courageous woman” in Sanskrit Pema is Tibetan for “lotus flower” Amon is one of the seven princes of Hell in Binsfeld’s classification of demons Eska is a creek in Alaska Desna means boss Unalaq is Inuit for west wind Zaheer is an Muslim name meaning supporter, connotes “strongly held views on spiritual matters” P’li means explosive thunderbolt in Chinese Ghazan is a Muslim name for “holy war fighter” Ming Hua is a generic Chinese name, but can mean bright prospering Wu means five in Chinese
Just a couple of quick comments/additions - for some of the names here we were actually never shown the exact Chinese characters, so it’s hard to say what exactly their names mean, for example:
Wu - Character not shown, so it could be five or military, or just a generic place name. =D
Zhu Li - Characters not shown, but it’s clearly a pun on “assistant”. Most Chinese translations write her name in other characters though, like a more generic female name.
Asami - Only the first character “Asa” is shown, which means “hemp”. The second character is generally assumed to be “beauty”, but not confirmed.
Mako - Homage to Mako Iwamatsu, whose name was written in katakana instead of kanji. The in-show Chinese characters for Mako were shown differently on two occasions - “Horse High” and “Horse Science”.
Zuko - His name was written in two different ways throughout the show. Interestingly enough, one of the them literally means “ancestor invader/bandit”.
Even up to this day, I still believe that the top three unbearable names (read: what the heck were the parents thinking) in the ATLA/LOK universe are:
Lao Beifong
Ty Lao
Mako / Lo Ban
Just some food for thought. =D
Yep ^^ thanks for your comments
I really wish that Bryke had clarifies Wu’s character though!
But Bryke actually wrote somewhere that Zhu Li’s name was 助理!
Asami’s name was confirmed to be 佐藤麻美!
Mako’s name is confirmed to be 馬高! But I’m sure that they didn’t mean for us to translate it literally, since it was a homage.
Zuko’s name was actually written differently several times! The official one is 蘇科, resurrected rule. The second time is, as you mentioned 祖寇- ancestor robber. And the third time, 豎髙, meaning vertical high!
And I definitely agree . _ . especially Lao Beifong and Ty Lao Elaboration for those who don’t speak Chinese: Lao usually means old. Lao Beifong means Old North Direction. Ty Lao means “too old”. Literally.
