perhaps she deserved it for all the cruel things she might threaten them with. burnt poms, promises of turning them into a ( likely failed ) culinary dish, among other things. all was met with their jeers and general teasing behavior. they had to know they were getting a rise out of her. normally kehda could ignore something so irritating and yet .. yet, somehow moogles were even worse. perhaps because they were prone to all joining in. one or two annoyances were easy for her to block out. a whole multitude of them, however ? that, she could not simply ignore.

yet any and all scathing threats or comments were empty. irritated as she was, kehda didn't truly bear ill will toward them. she simply hoped to scare them .. of course, it was hopeless .. they twirled around her in air in the most whimsical of fashions, just out of her reach. they were wise to do so or she might try and grab at one of them. gone was her usual cool and collected personality, replaced by what could only be referred to as her true personality .. that is, allowing herself to show annoyance rather than pretending that she couldn't be fazed.

" she looks away from the flying creatures to her company. in the end, this was her fault. she had agreed to tag along. she'd hoped travelling with a good friend might be good for her .. yet, for all it mattered, she only ended up being picked at. "oh, very much so. i've done my time," he said, amusement clear on his mien, chipper in the face of danger ( not that he expected kehda to threaten him, other than perhaps toss one of the moogles at his face to take two birds with one stone, but he's certain to get payback one of these days ), as moogles continued to dance and flutter around her. "they treated me just the same, at first. up until i basically helped them out too much that they had to be nice to me. isn't that right, guys?"

at the pointed question all of a sudden, the moogles jumped, a funny sight to see as they all floated most of the time — and romeo wondered once before if moogles at rest would die if they didn't move, having been sheltered for a majority of his life — but at least they stopped pestering kehda. he would wave them away. "i think everyone had their fun messing with my friend by now. everyone should leave her alone now or else i'll have to join in in finding those nuts."

so he giveth, he can taketh. that was enough to get an annoyed remark, but that had them flying off, which romeo laughed about as he gathered up the rest of his tools. "there, that should keep you safe for a bit while i'm around. or you can keep threatening their stash of kupo nuts, that'd probably work better in the long run; or you could offer your help and make them have to treat you nicely." ah, the sacred treasure. save them a few times too, then they'd stop with their prodding and teasing, as if you truly think about it, they were like a bunch of children. "okay, we'll save the moogle torture for later. now that i've stolen your time, kehda, i do think i owe you something in turn. a craft or my time, i can pretty much do anything."

to hear those words from his knight... mariotto's heart hammered in his chest, certain that he's stopped breathing as each word is absorbed, his carefully created mask slipping slowly, slowly, to reveal the hopeful yearning he's been holding onto for years. the type of love held close, a secret that's never been shared with anyone, not even to the wind to carry off whispered i love yous, never expressed on paper with pen to prevent any eyes from ever catching sight of that secret.

due to that secret being held so closely, as the entire duration of these feelings that mariotto felt, from his younger years to now, he's always believed that they were always one-sided.

now... now...

with e'mrys baring his heart so obviously, to bring up the code of knights that were followed so intently to the grave, similar to mariotto and the royal title held over his head, and to go against that, it made him want to cry out. then to hide. his own doubt, years in the making, fighting to take over his voice from answering back.

he knew he looked silly, mouthing words he wanted to say for so long, red in the face from the heat and his internal struggle, mariotto's dreams of the perfect confession going up in flames the longer he delayed. so, what else could he do but say hells to propriety?

"i... i love you, e'mrys!" he said, rushing through the words to finally release them after years of keeping them locked away. "i've loved you for so long!"

with a final exhale, he raised his hands to cover his face. he's embarrassed by his actions, guilty for how many rules he's likely broken by his words alone, for letting his lost family down, that though this would have to be one of the most joyous moments he's had in a long time — mariotto couldn't handle the mixture of emotions all at once. with nary a glance at e'mrys' face to see his knight's expression, the prince would turn around and run further into the forest, to find someplace alone to be able to comprehend everything that happened.

romeo couldn't help but snort internally at the statement, for there were plenty of others that he's met that had their own secrets that they've kept close to their hearts, for their own reasons, for the best for the star — and then there was romeo, holding onto many, many secrets of others with him too.

( and he holds them close to his heart, to never be shared. )

"sure, they can't speak any longer, but let's leave the dead to rest now, hm?" romeo replies, thinking well there is the aetherial sea, perhaps a particularly petty person attempted to leave more scars before being washed away. he was totally not thinking of someone; which he can help but give a wry smile at the memory. "mayhaps one day you'll find a living, breathing person that doesn't disappoint you, that you can leave your secrets and be open with."

no matter how often he hears those words, no matter the length of time that had passed, romeo would always fall in love with e'mrys all over again. and he's glad that they've found each other in the time that they had, the short lull in their hectic ongoing adventure as warriors of light, while also understanding that there would be days where they would be separated while knowing that they would go back home to each other.

it's the distance that made his heart grown fonder.

"same here, mrys," romeo said, curling up closely to the older man, rubbing his forehead against the top of his head. "it's always you that brings me happiness. these days when i'm out there, and whenever there's some other problem to solve, it just makes me want to come back to you."

the amount of stories that he comes back to e'mrys with! though at times their paths would converge — that didn't occur too often, but when they did, their skills would join in together to prove how capable and stronger they were when fighting on the same team — most of the time they were apart, weary down to their bones, but content to give their assistance, as well as coming home to each other.

mostly, because after their shared experiences, romeo would say that it is e'mrys that is his home. as they exchanged their words of love, as well as bringing comfort to each other, romeo knew that e'mrys felt the same.

"it is," romeo said, a dreamy smile on his face as he stared up through the canopy of tree leaves while laying on his back, the sunlight trailing through gentler than the harsh eternal light that previously covered the crystarium. romeo took a liking to this area, not only let his legs hang over the edge in peace, over the raised landscapes that were there for no other reason than for appearance, but for the privacy that it provided as many headed towards the market instead.

"we're travelers, my family, well really my father's side is where most of the customs come from. but part of it is that we typically settle down wherever our significant other wants, and my mother chose radz-at-han. she already loved the city during her own visits, being a dancer and practicing there, then the culture and people would convince her to want to stay," he continues, dropping down that bit of lore about his parents, thinking however that what truly cemented his mother to stick close to radz-at-han had been himself. he'd heard whispers of the pains and struggles she went through before his birth, that didn't make sense when he was younger, not realizing up until he grew to adulthood.

it's easier to gloss over that for his mother, as it's her tale to reveal, but all the more reason he looked up to her to his mother for all of the decisions and sacrifices she's made.

of course, thinking of his mother, his family, then the familiar taste of a cool mango lassi next to the spiciest curry, to be topped off with his favorite fruit, brought another pang of homesickness. "ugh, i miss my mom, e'mrys. i'm used to a loud house surrounded by my younger cousins, that the quiet tends to make me nervous rather than calm. and the food. even if i've improved enough to know how to cook now, but i'm missing everything that was familiar to me."

he turns to his side now, getting comfortable while focusing on his friend. "maybe one day i'll get to take you there, so you can have a try." then he smirks in thought. "unless you're the type that dies to spiciness, that i'll have to make sure everything is mild for you. oh, don't get me started on the sun too, now that i think about it. oh, e'mrys, whatever shall i do with you?"

2. does your WoL have a recurring nightmare (or more)? what is it?

these days, the nightmares have ceased; he's the lucky type that would have dreamless nights anyway, though during the outset of his adventure, very much green in every way, after a loss or another stressful event, romeo would experience a nightmare of sort. not to mention the stress dreams, of waking up from those and never feeling quiet rested because of it.

so he's grateful that he's had the dreamless sleep, or can't remember them, to get some semblance of rest.

these days, able to sleep alongside his partner, romeo's been able to get some of the best sleep he's had in a while. plus, his presence also helps his partner have peaceful nights now too, as e'mrys had been most susceptible to nightmares before they met.

3. who do they worry about the most?

his partner-

specifically when they're apart, doing wol business. it's not that romeo doubts e'mrys' skills, he'd say his partner is powerful like him if not more so, it's that with this line of work one mere mistake, one wrong choice, could mean everything. that went the same for himself, as he's aware of the fragility of life, so he's been more careful ever since he's begun dating e'mrys as he's become the person he wants to see everyday to the end.

e'mrys will always be on top of his list. below him, would be his friends and family and the rest of his loved ones. after all, all of them are the reason why he continues to fight, finding reasons for why he can continue. it's easy to give up. it's difficult to keep going.
