Well I decided to utilise this blog again, because I want to try and start doing a pre-written RPG story thing. So more or less writing stories for D&D players, Star Trek adventure players, Pathfinder. And a plethora of other games. People can use them all good pay for me to write a personalised one.

Blindness is a symptom, not a condition.

So I have a rant. 

I’ve noticed, with a lot of blind fictional characters, the writers just say they were ‘blind from birth’ which is such a copout. It’s like saying that your nose is running. No reason given- could be allergies, could be a cold, could be that you ate something super spicy. 

Eye conditions that cause blindness and visual impairment (only something like 8 percent of legally blind people are completely blind) are varied and they have different effects and other symptoms. Not everyone who is blind ‘looks blind’ or has the clouded cornea that traditionally signals that a character is blind. The problem can be in the front of the eye, but it can also be in the optic nerves or the brain. 

Your character could have Albinism, Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Retinopathy of Prematurity , Cataracts, Corneal Disease, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular degeneration, a detached retina, I’m sure I’m missing some. Each of these things affects the eye differently, and come with other symptoms. 

Blind representation is so important, but so is doing some research as to why. This isn’t just a problem with OCs or fanfiction, this is a problem I see with canon blind characters and it’s so frustrating.

I’m sorry I’m having to do this again but the I’m stuck. I’ve had to start another gofund me to help me get onto HRT

My name is Rebecca, I’m a 21 year old blind trans woman. and I’m stuck. For the last three years I’ve been trying to get onto a gender clinic to start my life and transition. The NSH has been failing me badly. Not doing what I am asking, no pleading for them to do to help me live. For three years I’ve been fighting the system to just to get on to HRT. So I’m asking for your help to help me go privat just to get on to HRT. With my situation at home with my abusive mother, taking my money and using my card when she likes. It is impossiable for me to save enough funds to do anything. This is slowly killing me, I am trying to keep my head above the water but I can’t for much longer. So I need your help. and If you can give anythihg I would be forever gratefull. and if you can’t please share this as wide and far as you can. Because I’m reaching my limit for dealing with such painfull dysphoria. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
