*gives Valentine*
Mellon doesnât even need to read to know what this is, considering what day it is and the amount of hearts on the card. He has received... his first ever valentine. He is clearly a little overwhelmed.
âOh... O-Okay! I mean, yes! Iâll be your valentine!â
What do valentines do...? Other than go on dates? Surely Vaska doesnât want to go... on a date...? Mellon covers his face with his hand for a moment before huffing, assuring himself that Vaska doesnât mean it like that.Â
â...Come on,â he orders, taking Vaskaâs hand.âI have to make Samuel cook us food thatâs shaped like hearts.â
âïžAchievement: Staby Staby!
đThis Muse has Stabbed multiple people
đž
Mellon was surprised by the gesture, keeping his head still to allow Elena to place the flower just right. When she was finished, he carefully felt it with his hand. âDoes it really...â
He stopped himself, feeling a little silly asking if it looked nice. He knew Elena would think so, anyway. She always thought he looked nice, even when he didnât wash or cut a particularly large chunk out of his hair. It was like that with everything, though. Even no one else thought much of him, Elena always did.
âThank you.â
It didnât look very tough to walk around with a wildflower in his hair... but at least for the time being, he cared what Elena thought if him much more than anyone else they might happen across. He continued on the path and kept his eyes out for more flowers, so that he could return the favor.
You're my baby.
âIâm not- Wait, who the hell is this? Donât say something like that without telling me who you are.â
I want to be your mother where are the adoption papers
âOh... I donât have any, ah... papers...? Iâm too old to have something like that. Iâm really not a kid, I just look that way.â
đ
He quickly adjusted, trying to become a good pillow so that Vaska wouldnât have to rest his head somewhere else. It was difficult to imagine his shoulder was comfortable, especially with Vaska being bigger than he was.
âYou can sleep on me if you want to,â he still offered.
Mellon tried to stay still and quiet, but it was something he did so rarely that he wasnât sure how. After a moment of fidgeting with his hands in silence, he found himself concentrating on the sound of Vaskaâs breathing, steady and slow.
He glanced down at his friend. Vaska was really asleep already... It was odd, how listening to the sound of his own breathing made him nervous, yet listening Vaskaâs always had the opposite effect. Mellon rubbed his eyes, then patted Vaskaâs head. He carefully moved his friend to a position where they could both sleep.
BABY BOY!!

Mellon had stated many times that becoming a vampire was the best thing that ever happened to him. He was sure that Leondas understood. His companion pitied children who lived the sort of life Mellon had, after all. He wanted to end their misery. It made Mellon more sure than ever that his own vampirism was a blessing. He was more now than any of those children would ever be, more than any mortal could be.
So he tried to forget that heâd ever wanted anything else, and how desperately heâd clung to mortal life. It was painfully embarrassing to even think about, though he tried to remind himself that he was a vampire now. Not only that, but a stronger and smarter one since heâd been learning from Leondas. He wasnât that same pathetic kid anymore.
So when he was taken back to that night in his dreams, why was he still so terrified?
It wasnât the familiar content of the nightmare that woke him as much as it was his own scream. His hand darted up to cover his mouth and stifle the noise. Mellon looked at the person beside him with wide eyed confusion, taking a moment to recall his surroundings. He realized now that it had only been a memory, yet the terror lingered and blended into the shame it had produced.
The boy didnât have much time to consider how childish he must seem before Leondas pulled him into a comforting hug. Mellon was always amazed at how much a hug could solve. Only a few seconds prior he had been too panicked to even speak, but that already felt so far away. He was safe here. He felt safe.
âI wish you were my Father,â Mellon sniffed, resting his head on Leoâs shoulder.
If Leondas had been the vampire who created him, or perhaps even his actual father... Mellon knew everything would be better, then. Leo taught him to be strong. He never would have made him feel so weak and small. The elf could be a little cold sometimes, especially to other people... but Mellon felt sure that he was a good person.
Mellon suddenly wasnât sure if that had been the right thing to say, but it was the middle of the day and he was too tired to give it much thought. It was simply how he felt. He closed his eyes.
đŽ
Mellon hated going to bed. It was one of the worst parts of the day. His mind raced so terribly that he often found himself just staring up at the ceiling, wishing that sleep was something a vampire did not need.
All there was to do was think, and try to stop thinking. Mellon squeezed his eyes tightly shut and then opened them several times. He was considering getting up and doing more stretches right as someone approached.
He rolled over quickly to face Elena when he heard her move to the side of his bed. Though he was glad to see her there, his expression was more inquisitive than relieved. âAh, you woke me up,â he lied before scooting over to let her into bed.
âYou never sleep alone, do you? You have trouble sleeping?â
It made sense that she came here, then. Sleeping in pairs was safer, and sleeping with him was probably the safest of all. He could protect her from anything. So it was better sleeping this way, even if it was embarrassing for people to find out about it.
Once they were settled, Mellon laid flat on his back and crossed his arms over his chest. He glanced over at his sister one last time before closing his eyes. âGo ahead and go to sleep, Elena, youâre safe here with me. You know I have-â
He paused to place a small blade from his pocket under her pillow. âI have knives. Donât worry about anything but sleeping. Think about me while you fall asleep and you might have me in your dreams too.â
leondxsâ:
Leondasâ jaw clenched, lips peeling back to brandish teeth. His anger welling within him, his fingers began to flex in preparation to land a blow. The vampireâs talons would no doubt make a nasty, memorable mark across the boyâs cheek. Perhaps that would teach him not to get in his way again. Or maybe there was no hope, the boy would never learn. Perhaps he would simply have to do away with Mellon. Just like he had everyone else.
Everyone else close to him.
The creature cringed and pressed a hand to his face, groaning in defeat and making no move to remove the boy from his waist. No. He wouldnât succumb to such vile thoughts. Despite the hunger clawing at his insides and into his psyche, he knew that deep down he cared for the boy. Perhaps even loved him. There was no denying the more paternal side of him that surfaced whenever he was near. No matter what his instincts led him to believe, he could not bring himself to intentionally hurt Mellon.
He sighed, arms falling slack at his sides and head hanging low. Ginger locks hung past his features, partially hiding a muted expression of frustration and defeat. The girlâs heartbeat began to fade away. She had escaped. Rather, he had allowed her to escape. Reluctantly so, as it was only to appease Mellon.
He growled softly, mumbling in surrender to the boy,
â Iâm not going to hit you. â
Mellon hesitated, looking up to study the manâs face without relaxing his grip. After a moment he determined that while his friend may be angry at him, it seemed a lot like he was planning to stay. Mellon wondered if he should be surprised by Leondasâ words.Â
He almost felt guilty again; the man had never hurt him or hit him before, even as long as theyâd been together now. It was just like how Mellon had never stolen anything from Leondas. He didnât because he never would.
âI... I know that,â Mellon claimed, trying to keep his tone even now that he felt calm enough to remember himself. Mellon slowly loosened his grip on the other vampire, wiping at his eyes. He looked down the path after the stupid girl who caused the whole thing. Thankfully, she was no longer in sight.Â
The guilt had continued to gradually build, and now he wished there was a way Leondas could have his prey without killing them. If Mellon was mortal, he could just let Leondas drink from him...
âOh, I could... You know, I could feed from people, anyone you wanted, and then... can vampires feed from each other? I know Iâm not a real kid, but if...âÂ
He was hopeful yet self conscious about his offer. It might be a stupid idea, after all, and he didnât want to follow up ruining his partnerâs meal with a stupid idea.Â
