Gallia and its Name
Long ago, the area that would come to be known as Kalos was called Gallia. Originally just a bunch of smaller provinces ruled by lords, when it came under the power of the Ydvraesian Empire they united as one land under one ruler. These lands were named Gallia after the people, as to the Ydvraesians they were known as the 'Galli', which meant 'hardy' (a reference to the tough nature of the native people). The name stuck for at least a two thousand years, until it evolved to the modern name of te Republic of Kalos after the Kalosian Revolution.
Gallia's Petition For Independence
After the death of Ceraeion Fieorel, the Ydvraesian Empire's control over their annexed lands began to slip. Under the rulership of Hermos Fieorel, the young king relied too much upon the support of corrupted advisors which eventually led to the fall of the empire as a whole. Gallia, finally united, began to push for its independence from the empire and the people took their case to the nobles and lords.
A single man was elected the leader of the committee for Gallia's independence, Lord Xavier Reyer, whose lands extended to cover most of ancient Gallia before it had been taken over. Xavier made many petitions to the council that had taken over control of the Ydvraesian Empire's reigns, but all were ignored. His final appeal was to, at least, have Ydvraesian soldiers withdrawn from his land. The result was a massive fire to Lord Xavier's main stronghold, a retaliation in response to his 'insolence'. The fire consumed over a dozen servants' lives, as well as Lady Reyer, and damaged the surrounding fields; his two sons escaped unscathed.
Outraged by this gross misuse of military power against them, the Gallian people rose up and began what would be known as the Galli's War. This war would span for twenty years before it would come to a close, with Gallia as the victor. During this time, the Reyer family was established as the monarchy in charge of the country once it won itself back from Ydvraesian hands. Despite originally being unified against a common enemy, Gallia was actually split into three factions when Lord Reyer was named king of Gallia. One faction supported the king, one faction wished to remain under Ydvraesian control in order to avoid conflict, and a third portion were a neutral party undecided in the matter of their nation.
The Maid of Camphrier; Yrisviel Le Blanc
A young girl born in Camphrier had become host to several visions that would eventually lead to the defeat of the Ydvraesian Empire, but only if she led the charge. Her name was Yrisviel Le Blanc, daughter of Lysriel Le Blanc and rumoured to be a Scion of Arceus. She went to the newly crowned King Xavier Reyer, imploring him to allow her to join his army, for she was on a mission from God. Victory would be on their side. To prove this, the king tested the young girl no older than twelve years of age, to see if her visions were that of a messenger of God or a heretic.
Yrisviel accurately predicted the movements of three raids upon Gallia from the east, even going so far as to explain the strategy that would be used against their forces. It took an entire year before the king was convinced of her mission. The truth behind this matter was that the king's advisors did not want him to accept a girl into their ranks as to not appear weak; the king, after continuous losses to Ydvraesia for close to five years, had been desperate or a reprieve or a miracle and had bene ready to accept Yrisviel's visions as true right away.
Finally seen as a true messenger of God, Yrisviel began to lead the Gallian army to victory after victory where there was once only defeat. Her strategies were well known for their ability to turn around the situation, especially one where loss seemed imminent. In modern day, such strategies are known as 'the Turnabout Ploy' or 'Yrisviel's Gambit' where every calulated loss made for a win in the endgame of all battles.
The Treaty of Lumiose
The greatest victory for the pro-Reyer forces was when they won back Lumiose from Ydvraesian occupation. Upon their defeat a messenger was dispatched with word from the Ydvraesin council, speaking of a truce. According to the document, the Empire ceded defeat and would recognize as an independent, sovereign nation, separate from Ydvraesia. Their only condition was to have Yrisviel handed over to them. Against the protests of many, Yrisviel gave herself up willingly in order to avoid more bloodshed. The treaty was signed between the two Kings on the eve of spring on the thirteenth year of the war.
Yrisviel, Burnt at the Stake
After the treaty had been signed by the two nations, Yrisviel went to Ydvraesia of her own free will in exchange for peace in Gallia. Civil talks between herself and the leaderof the Empire proved to be fruitful and the long awaited independence seemed to be soon underway. However, there was unrest within the council who did not wish for the empire to lose control of Gallia and its resources, that being its mineworks and precious metals. King Hermos Fieorel and the council did not see eye-to-eye on the matter and a tragedy resulted of this.
On the day that the treaty would be presented to the people, the two kings meeting to shake hands in a show of good will what the people saw instead was their saviour and hero, Yrisviel Le Blanc sentenced to death for made-up crimes against the Ydvraesian Empire. Before anyone could stop the unfolding events the pyre was lit and Yrisviel burned to death. The fire burned high and bright, turning white. Back then, the white flames were the signature of the former king, Ceraeion Fieorel of whom many died without issue and without any heirs. Many believed that Yrisviel had been the bastard child of King Ceraeion and one of his many concubines.
Once again, outraged, the people rose up. In the year following Yrisviel's unjust execution Ydvraesia was driven out of Gallia. King Xavier Reyer had sustained grave wounds at the final battle, dying not a fortnight after and leaving his eldest son, Adaliz Reyer, to inherit the throne of Gallia at the tender age of fourteen. A year after their victory, Yrisviel was beatified and named as the Hero of Gallia.
Gallia Civil War
A fear years after Adaliz ascended the throne, Yvon, his younger brother, began to plot behind his back in order to usurp it. Now living comfortably, many nobles began to choose sides as the ideals shared by the king and the prince had become drastically different over the years. Lines were drawn and people that were once neutral in the earlier conflicts against Ydvraesia were now forced to choose amongst themselves which side to take within the war that took place with their brethren.
It was man against man, Pokemon against Pokemon, Pokemon against men and vice versa. Blood continued to be shed in the Gallian countryside as each side refused to give in.
The fight between king and prince culminated in the creation of the Flower of Immortality, which had only been intended to revive King Adaliz's Floette, whom had been killed by Prince Yvon. And what had been originally used to heal, was soon turned to destruction in the King's anger. The Flower of Immortality was transformed into the Ultimate Weapon and was fired upon the battlefield, killing hundreds of humans and Pokemon alike.
In the wake of such horror, King Adaliz stepped down from the throne and abdicated the throne to his younger brother. With this the Gallia Civil War had ended.
