Here, I made some nifty animation of wintermint Birdo. This, BTW, is a “music only” mix of my podcast’s ice level music episode.

I found this today. Remember when Cathy, like yoshi, had different colors? I like to imagine she went through a punk rock phase and started dying herself.
Pauline with a giant steamed bun by Studio Despotamus - Joel Gaylard
“So, the below image of Princess Peach is official Nintendo art for a Club Nintendo exclusive calendar of some sort and I thought it was really cool, because of this I tried to reproduce a similar image using my favourite Super Mario lady Pauline (above). I did it in half an hour in Adobe Illustrator, it’s not perfect by any means or original but it’s fan art, so that’s okay AND I thought it was cute enough to post!”
Donating to an artist you like can be very helpful. There is a DONATE button on my blog … although if you have spare cash, it might be better karma if you donate it to a worthy charity. It’s really up to you.
“Hey, I think we should have a new female character in this Super Mario RPG game we’re making.”
“Oh, that would make sense.”
“Yeah, and maybe she could be a bad guy, because we don’t have many female villains in the series.”
“Sure, sure. That would probably be great.”
“Okay then. I was also thinking that she could have gigantic boobs.”
“Umm…”
“Like, just pendulous mammary sacs that jiggle hilariously when Mario hits her.”
(Read my frank evaluation of the design of Valentina, the weirdest of the very weird Super Mario RPG characters.)
So here’s a weird story. A few years back, I met my friend’s stepdad, Howard Phillips, the guy who was the first American employee of Nintendo, who appeared in cartoon form in the Nintendo Power “Howard & Nester” comics, who was a major force in pushing Nintendo products in the U.S. and most importantly of all, who told Nintendo execs that the original sequel to Super Mario Bros. wouldn’t fly in the U.S. He set into motion the chain of events that brought the American Super Mario Bros. 2 into existence.
It wasn’t until just recently that it occurred to me that because of Howard Phillips, little gay six-year-old me got to play as Princess Peach and ended up becoming one of those guys who always insists on playing as the girl character. In fact, it’s because of Phillips, more or less indirectly, that Peach exists today in Smash Bros. with the moves she has. In that one decision, this guy ended up shaping a lot of my video game experiences.
Read the post on my big boy blog for the full story.
I made this! It’s my best attempt at brotherbrain-style video game GIF magic. It’s Birdo, hardcore peaceing out after learning she got dumped from the new Mario Kart game in favor of the monstrosity that is Pink Gold Peach.
– Hey, what do turtles look like? – Dunno. Never seen one. – They can just look like mean swans or whatever, right? – Sounds good to me.
I admire artists’ commitment to making the Mario Bros. sexy, gay and more likely than not into each other. I don’t understand it, but I like that they don’t seem to question it.
By me. In fact, when I was a kid, I had dreams that looked like this.
Credit to sprites from here, here and here.
BTW, Wanda is my favorite neglected Mario character.
My Christmas present to you is one final episode of Singing Mountain in 2017: ICE MUSIC. But not the holly-jolly Christmassy stuff. No, this is the sparkly ice palace stuff — chilled out winter landscape music. I hope you enjoy. Here’s to a chilled out 2018.
Games included in this mix: Actraiser, Donkey Kong Country, Ecco the Dolphin, Harvest Moon 64, Kirby, Mega Man, Wild Arms, Sonic and Battletoads. Yep, it’s a Battletoads kind of Christmas.
After literal years of not being able to log into this account, I’ve finally gotten back in. Here, enjoy this chilled-out video game thing I made.
Luigi eats the wrong kind of mushshroom, takes a kid-friendly bad trip. No, really.
In honor of Smash Bros. finally getting released today, here’s a gif of Princess Peach kicking some serious ass — back in 1986, no less.

Just one of the musical, “walking through the backdrops” montages from the Super Mario Bros. anime. See more here.
Meet Prince Haru, the foppish little dandy who ends up with Peach at the end of the Super Mario Bros. anime. I could be way off, but I have a little theory that had this movie been released in the U.S. back in the day, we’d be playing as Haru today in Mario Kart and what not. But we also wouldn’t have the Toad we know and love today.
