Mab’s Drawloween Club Days 13 & 14: Coffin/Skeleton!
In Universal’s House Of Frankenstein (1944) Dr. Niemann (Boris Karloff) an escaped Mad doctor who with his hunchback assistant (J. Carrol Naish) murder Professor Lampini, and take over his traveling Chamber Of Horrors. One of the exhibits is the coffin and skeletal remains of Count Dracula with a stake driven through his heart. When the stake is removed the skeleton recomposes in the form of actor John Carradine. This scene has stayed with me since I first saw the film when I was a little monster.

I was trying to decide how I was going to approach this one. I usually draw a vibrant voluptuous vamp, but I wanted a bit more menace. When I did a search for inspiration I happened upon a photo of adult film legend (and no she wasn’t nude in the picture) Vanessa Del Rio in the film Dracula Exotica (1980). Harionago (Japanese: 針女子),also known as Harionna (Japanese: 針女),is a “frightening female ghoul” in Japanese mythology. Her name literally meaning “Barbed woman”, the Harionago is said to be a “beautiful woman with extremely long hair tipped with thorn-like barbs.” Her hair is under her "direct control, and she uses it to ensnare men."She is said to wander the roads of the Japanese prefecture of Ehime on the island of Shikoku.
