i think one of the most interesting things about brott that no one talks about is both the difference in how they're treated within the cast and how that would generate a lot of conflict because of it.
Brick to me seems like the type of guy everyone would get along with. Every single member of ROTI would like this man. Even some of the more prickly and mean spirited campers (Anne Maria, Jo, lightning) had some good interaction with Brick. Jo and Brick have their rivalry and that one moment of solidarity in the finders creepers episode, Anne Maria stood up for Brick TWO separate times (one in the finders creepers episode and the other in the next episode when Scott tried to accuse brick of being the thief) and Lightning had the whole team men thing with Brick. Overall, Brick is still super well liked person within the ROTI cast and would probably get along with everyone.
Meanwhile, with Scott, everyone would hate this man. Not just because he eliminated like half of the fucking cast or that also because him blackmailing Mike was super fucked up, he's also just a big asshole too So there's that. Even when he's literally in the trauma chair nobody takes the time to realize how messed up that was and LAUGHS at Scott.
this is super interesting to me because I can see a lot of conflict arise from this difference both when they start hanging out with each other, when one falls for the other and when they start dating:
Brick feels conflicted over hanging out with Scott even though he knows he did a lot of bad things because he's (presumably) friends with the Maggot trio after he saved their lives and he knows that Scott did them wrong in so many ways, especially with MIKE. Mike was literally blackmailed on live tv by Scott and that was really messed up. But the more time he spends with Scott, the more he changes his mind and sees new facets of him.
mike notices that Brick has been hanging out with Scott and gets worried for him 1. Because it's Scott and 2. He probably thinks that Scott is up to something. Mike would get pretty protective over Brick because he knows that Brick is a good person and Scott isn't and he's worried that Scott will try and take advantage of brick like he did with himself. Brick tries and reassure Mike that Scott's changed and isn't as bad as he was before but Mike doesn't believe Brick.
People aren't really happy that Brick is hanging out with Scott and voice their disapproval again and again, which not only causes a rift between the rest of the cast and Scott, but also makes brick have to choose between standing up for Scott (which would gain the scorn of all of the rest of his cast mates because why the hell would you defend Scott) or letting it slip (which would make him seem like a piece of shit for letting them talk bad about Scott)
dawn would INSTANTLY clock it when either one of them falls for the other. If it's Scott who falls first, she feels conflicted because yes, while Scott is still an asshole, he really does genuinely like Brick and his feelings are true. If Brick falls first, than she would feel much more wary but she senses that Scott isn't doing anything malicious and their connection is genuine, so she just watches and observes for the moment.
If they did get together at some point, Im pretty sure one of them might want to not tell everyone immediately (Brick for Scott's own comfort and Scott for his own self preservation), so they keep it secret for now but there are some people who do learn or find out (either by discovering it themselves or because Brick told them) and the first people who do find it out (in no particular order) are Dawn (she's known from the start), Jo (she immediately susses Brick out and she's so happy not for brick or anything but because she and Lightning placed a bet on whether brick is gay or not. This is immediately snuffed out when Brick says that he's Bi, so both of them got it wrong), Anne Maria (brick tells her after she catches brick slipping), and Cameron (who straight up asks Scott if he and Brick and dating, and when Scott admits it and threatens to beat him to a pulp if he tells a soul, he then accidentally lets it slip to Zoey. They both agree to keep it from Mike for the sake of Brick and Mike's friendship and to let brick tell Mike on his own terms. This however backfires spectacularly when...)
Mike (at some point) finds out that Brick dating Scott when he catches the two of them making out. And he is mad as hell because not only is that literally the guy who blackmailed him, but also nobody told him and he's the last out of his team that found out that Brick was dating Scott. But, then again, Mike really does want to respect Brick's choice and it's not like he can be that mad at brick because 1. That's Brick and 2. Brick saved his life, and it's not like he can be mad that brick kept such a secret from him because Mike is no stranger to keeping secrets. He literally kept a secret from his crush and now gf and kept ANOTHER secret in the form of not telling his best friends about Mal (im assuming...?). But even then, there's also a feeling of betrayal that lingers even though he knows that Brick probably didn't intend to betray him or was intending to tell Mike very soon that Mike can't seem to shake off even though he wants to act like he isn't affected by it. He never expected it to come from Brick of all people, Scott yes but not Brick. So it really does hurt, and even though he does get over it, it takes a bit of time for him to fully forgive Brick.
Anyways those are just my thoughts on this. I should write a fic about this. This would be super good. I mean I already wrote an outline whether I intended to or not sooo... Stay tuned?
Yallll let's discuss our TDROTI AU concepts and ideas because they need more love and I'm super bored. Reblogs + asks will do (or replies)🙌
I'll start. I'm suuper into using the mutant aspect for settings/plotlines, it's something unique to them and pretty fun to mess around with even if it's kinda mixed in canon. I had an old apocalypse idea that was based around a nuclear winter (because... Canada) and had Jo + Cam as the initial protags (maybe they'd all form a settlement?) but didn't have much more thought than that, so... free to steal idea lol.
Lab AUs are what I really like thinking about tho-- one that I put a lot more thought into was Wanakwa Labs, where they're all hired by the government to study and contain dangerous mutant wildlife but I was mixed between it being a laboratory or a really dangerous open zoo for Money (if that sounds familiar yes it's just the SCP foundation and jurassic park mixed into one). I'd be here forever if I went through every little idea lol but basically some of them are zookeepers, others just do IT work and some are security guards who have to help said zookeepers in the event of a breach. If I were to actually explore this concept more I'd imagine it having multiple alternate storylines where some of the more dangerous animals break out (like one where Larry takes over the facility with overgrowth or idk the fucking squirrels get out and its like a re zero white rabbit moment) kinda like a video game
Another lab-based idea I've been thinking about is them as the test subjects this time. Maybe the auditions were a cover up to pick people for experiments or something similar. Yada yada mutant experiments and medical torture AND they're constantly drugged + have amnesia. It's beautiful. They all suffer. I'd love to explore this as an actual story honestly, imagine how awful it'd be
ok, so it would take me like 2 years to ever complete a fic but i do have some entire selfish requests from the people that actually have the balls and talent to do this shit.
i am a big fan of 'killing your darlings', both literally and figuratively, and that's mostly where these ideas come from. mmm yes, gimme all the angst, the pain is delicious.
Kill the bitches and put them in purgatory / hell ala Ride the Cyclone, the Good Place or whatever the fuck else. Because death is nothing else if not the ultimate way to humble characters and squeeze all that messy vulnerable shit out of their souls. (Bonus if you don't resurrect them because I am so sick of that being a plot point. Let the dead shit stay dead, death looses its finality and significance if we're just constantly bringing everyone back to life.)
This is Jock specific one I though about maybe a couple weeks ago so here me out: the Grace Chastity x Max Jaggerman dynamic but Brick and Jo respectively. And no, this is not me saying a near exact remake of Nerdy Prudes Must Die but with TDRI characters (tho you can definitely do that if you so please). See, Jock and Holy Ghost (im sure they have a more conventional ship name but this ones cool af so I'm going with it) actually have a lot in common in that both characters think they're diametrically apposed to each other when in reality they're foils. So make Brick a corrupt holier-than-thou force that believes drastic measures justify a moral means. Give Jo a God complex but keep some self-awareness for good measure and contrast. Make these two fuckers the absolute worst versions of themselves, smoosh 'em together and make them kill each other. (Or at least give Jo Jaggerman's "i'm your God" speech because it would fit her so well, fr.)
I had another one but I cant remember what it was and need to finish my homework before I head out to class. Bye.
NPMD mention!!! These sound soo fuckin awesome lol, the first one reminds me of posts calling TD hell/purgatory with all the Teen Torture that happens on the show
2nd one is super cool, I'm ALL for Brick being so morally uptight he becomes corrupt (military propaganda runs in his veins and the more people actually talk about it instead of acting like he hates/dgaf about the military the more I'll feel at peace).
I feel like when people think about a villain Brick they always try to make him an inherently bad guy (like... a male jo lol) when it's more interesting to push his ego and moral code to the extreme and make him think he's doing the right thing
Kinda funny since I've envisioned Jo in Grace's role for a few songs like bury the bully and dirty dudes must die (not because she's like grace lol angela's voice just suits her) I think we just have to agree her saying/singing "Who will pray for you?" would go so hard
lowkey, this one's been in my head. It's a bit jumbled up so sorry if there's any confusion.
Detroit Become Human AU where Brick is the android sent by Cyberlife to hunt devaints and Jo accidentally becomes the pesudo leader of Jericho along with Dawn.
Context: in this AU, Cyberlife has two owners: Cameron and Scarlett. And before becoming a caretaker android, Jo was originally programmed to be the devaint hunter. Cameron was the one who programmed and built her, and she was perfect for the job. Too perfect though due to Jo's complex programming and advanced technology, Jo surprisingly was at a very high risk for deviation and that would be disastrous for Cyberlife because there's a high chance that If Jo were to deviate, she would probably bring the downfall of Cyberlife due to her have a way higher intelligence and being more athletic than the average android. So Scarlett decided to make her own deviant hunter and built brick in her own image. They were planned to be partners, a sort of good cop and bad cop dynamic. But when they ran some tests, they found that it would be even worse than if Jo were solo, because not only would Jo deviate, Brick would aswell. Wherever Jo went, Brick would follow and together, they could probably get anything done if they had it in mind. Coincidentally, Cameron also gets sick at this time with a illness. So Scarlett takes control of the situation by convincing Cameron to make Brick the devaint hunter and Jo his caretaker android and hide her from the general public. Jo would give him the best care while he was sick and Scarlett would be able to monitor and watch over Brick as he did his job. Cameron didn't want to fully erase the programming he made for Jo, so instead of rewriting it like Scarlett suggested, he just wrote over it. So Jo becomes Cameron's caretaker and she's hidden from the general public while Brick becomes the deviant hunter.
Brick is Cyberlife's latest and most up to date model and he's been assigned to the hot mess of a detective Scott who hates androids (he's probably in his early 30s). Their assignment Together was a deliberate choice made by Cyberlife to mimic the dynamic he and Jo would've had if Jo wasn't so high risk of deviancy herself. Together they hunt for devaints and deal with their own problems including but not limited to Scott's grief over his late fiance Courtney, Brick being eeriely similar to his late fiance and a constant reminder of the past, Brick's growing awareness of his own potential for deviancy and the lack of choice he really has, his new fear of death, and his budding relationship with Scott's little sister, Alberta. Brick does die like twice in the story and that definitely causes a few problems because the first one was in front of Alberta (it's in the hostage chapter, instead of Emma, it's Alberta. And Scott wouldn't know that Brick died in that situation, for some reason. I need to let it simmer in my head why he wouldn't know that Brick could die and come back), and the second death was in Scott's arms after Brick sacrificed himself to protect Scott in a would be fatal car crash. There's the obligatory slow burn situationship brott.
Before Deviating, Jo was the caretaker to Cameron who in this AU, is one of the founders of Cyberlife. It's less like the relationship Markus and Carl have and more like friends. Before she deivates, Jo is much more laid back and demure and she's called Joan, given to her by Cameron. After Jo deviates, instead of being shot like Markus was, Jo escapes, ditches the name Joan for Jo and accidentally encounters Dawn, and rumor has it around Jericho, Dawn is either RA9 or a prophet of RA9. When Jo deviates, she becomes her canon self and accidentally gets Jericho to hate her guts when she first arrives. Jo would immediately tries to seize control of Jericho and accidentally gets herself in a one-sided power struggle with Dawn on who gets to be the leader of Jericho. While Dawn is the face of Jericho, Jo makes the plans. They both need each other but resent that to different degrees. Without Dawn, the deviants at Jericho would probably tear Jo apart and without Jo, Jericho would fall apart.
Some key differences is maybe to tone down the civil rights allegory since that was on the nose and lean more towards the rise of AI and the problems it brings. I have no idea what to do with the Kara storyline, so I thought it would be better to scrap it. I have mixed feelings about Kara's storyline in general. There's the slow burn brott situationship yaoi. Jericho has more internal conflict within.
MISC stuff I can't really categorize but it's living rent free in my head:
Brick actually not only got to choose his name, but also design the coat he wears. It's sorta symbolic in the way Brick both has way more choice than he realizes and way less because yes he did get to choose both of them, but Cyberlife (mainly Scarlett) put those ideas in his head that he had to be something reliable and trustworthy and useful. They made Brick in their perfect image of someone who would never break or disobey or fight back.
There's some aspects of the Kara storyline with Alberta and Brick's relationship. Brick was the one who saved Alberta at the cost of his own life back at the hostage situation, so Alberta is aware that brick can die and come back to life. But Brick makes Alberta promise that she won't tell Scott because he's worried about how it would interfere with the mission (blatant lie, he's worried about how his relationship with Scott would change if Scott knew he was expendable)and Alberta makes him counter promise that he won't die again. Brick promises on his own programming and code he will not die again (gee wiz I sure hope that doesn't backfire in any way possible).
Chris in this AU is Amanda. Instead of being Cameron and Scarlett's mentor, Chris was the one who funded Cyberlife in the first place. He's his typical sketchy self and constantly makes brick uncomfortable (though brick doesn't realize that this is wrong until later in the story) by tapping into Brick's thoughts and saying them out loud. The mind garden thing is replaced with Wawanakwa.
Jo is aware that she's one of the best androids made by Cyberlife, but she's not aware of her original purpose. Shes way more athletic and decisive than regular androids, much less than a typical caretaker androids. Which is why once she's deviated and met brick for the first time, she gets pissed but also intrigued at the same time. Because not only does brick threaten her status as the best and latest android made by Cyberlife, he's able to compete with her in no way anyone else has.
Dawn is actually not sure of whether RA9 exists or not but she plays it up because she's lonely and it's the closest thing she has to any real kinship. She is still her typical self but she plays up the prophet act a lot. Jo is the first person to actually call out bullshit on the prophet act and despite getting a lot of heat from the other members of Jericho, Dawn keeps her around because that's the closest she's ever been an equal.
Brick is unaware that he sorta terrifies people (especially deviants). In fact, Brick actually thinks he's helping deviants. To most deviants, (and Jo, for a brief period of time), Brick is a terrifying force of nature that never gets tired or stops at his mission to capture devaints. The worst part about it is that Brick is still so polite and honorable and helpful, even as he brings deviants to their demise. His demeanor is genuine. With the deviants he brings in, he makes sure they're okay and that their stress levels aren't too high, thanks them for their cooperation, and even vouches for them on certain occasions.
brick is also unaware of the fact that Cyberlife is using him for their own agenda or that Cyberlife is kinda evil and he's in the wrong side of the whole revolution and that Cyberlife will most likely throw him away once he becomes obsolete. Once he does come to that realization, he still tries to cling onto his programming and the thought of Cyberlife being a fair and ethical company because it's really the only thing he's ever known and he's scared of his deviancy since he knows that they'll most likely never accept him after he's brought in hundreds of devaints to their certain doom.
Brick always tries to bring deivants back in tact or alive because not only is it easier for Cyberlife to reprogram or see what's wrong with them, but it's also more honorable. It's a deliberate choice he makes despite Cyberlife's insistence to resort to more ruthless tactics. But it also makes him a more convenient scapegoat down the line once more deviants come up because they'll blame him for keeping them alive.
Brick has been programmed not to hurt humans unless they directly interfere with the mission at hand. This makes him unable to fight back when he's been hit by humans and he kinda just stands there when he gets verbally or physically abused by humans.
Brick definitely thinks that he's expendable compared to everyone else because he can be replaced if he dies and this leads to him sacrificing himself and getting injured more often.
Despite Jo being on the more moral side of things (with her being the pesudo leader of Jericho) she's definitely trying to be the leader for her own self serving reasons and issues with control and not because she wants devaints to have rights like Dawn. Jo never wants anyone else to have control over her again.
The relationship between Brick and Scott starts out rough. Not only does Brick remind Scott of Courtney, but he also hates androids because of a similar reason to why Hank hated androids in the game. Brick at first sees Scott as troublesome and irrational, constantly letting his emotions cloud his judgement.
During the bridge scene where Scott puts the gun to Brick's head and asks him if he is afraid to die, Brick asks counter question to that one. Would Scott miss him if he died. Because truthfully, at that point, Brick's priorities have shifted from Cyberlife to Scott and Alberta. He fears death and letting down Cyberlife still, but what he fears more is letting Scott and Alberta down. Brick doesn't get an answer to his question until much later after he dies and finds his ugly ass torn jacket on Scott's side of the bed stained with tears.
Brick's death is very embarrassing and mortifying on both sides. Brick sorta said he loved Scott before he died (half of it was genuine but the other half was and attempt to comfort Scott in a twisted way) and also deviated for a brief time before he died since he wanted to stay by Scott's side. Meanwhile, with Scott, Brick died in his arms while help was coming and you can imagine how traumatizing It would be to have not one of your situationship/partner die in a car crash that could've been prevented but both of them. Said situationship also turns up at your door a week later acting like nothing happened and deliberately kept the fact he could come back from the dead from you and convinced your little sister to keep it a secret as well and it turns out you've been mourning for nothing. So yeah, brick royally fucks up here by not telling Scott and keeping it a secret despite his good intentions.
Brick is a little more fucked up here for a variety of reasons. He views himself as expendable and useless if he fails, he has way too much trust in Cyberlife despite it using him as a tool and scapegoat, he deliberately keeps secrets from the people he loves to protect them, his own stubbornness leads him to not only cling to Cyberlife even as he realizes that it's using him and will dispose of him but also refuse to deviate and break free of his programming due to his fear of change and no direction. There's a variety of reasons. Pick and choose
That's all I have for now, sorry if it's humble and doesn't make sense. My mind is kinda fried RN haha bye guys.
istg does anyone have any good Danganronpa x total drama fanfictions that DONT have Cody or Noah as the protagonist? (Why is it always these two whenever it's a Danganronpa fanfiction?) Or like any first gen character as the protag? Can we have some more variety other than the most vanilla ass characters as the protagonists? Maybe a second gen character? (im biased towards them) God I NEED more fanfiction revolving around the second gen PLEASE.
the short brott comic I mentioned on a previous post! someone requested I doodle them but I got like. inspired in a kind of out of hand way but that's okay this was fun
bonus if brick fell first (aka my first interpretation before requester was like "I actually thought Scott would fall first" and I was like "ur a GENIUS"
Arguably the og td rivalry and what a rivalry it is
literally the start of it all. the rivalry of all rivalries even.
the girls are fighting!!!!! they coulda been bffs
NO DUH... it's the first biggest rivalry of our beloved TV show so of COURSEEE i am going to submit them!! look at them insulting each other, pushing each other off cliffs, beating each other up, gazing into each other's eyes, longing to feel the other's lips with her own- oh i said too much. anyways VOTE LESHEATHER BEST RIVALRY 2024
Her throwing Heather off the cliff is iconic
LESHEATHER SWEEP FIRE EMOJI TIMES THREE
gay as fuck to constantly fight someone and then give them your wig as a parting gift
They genuinely had one of the best rivalries in Gen 1. In Action when they came to an agreement was good as well! (THEY SHOULD HAVE STAYED ALLIANCE MEMBERS AT THE VERY LEAST)
Unfortunately tdwt forgot that these two sort of became friends in tda
IDK they are just the more iconic.
This is so iconic honestly!! ONE of the better rivals. (Glad they got along during Action though..)
They’re just so awesome. Two absolute powerhouse queens pitted against each other OMGG dude I love them. Leshawna giving Heather a beta version of her hair loss and so many other moments they had so much beef in all of the main gen1 seasons!! Also the sheer tension idk man maybe (definitely) they should kiss
Jo v Brick: Do I even need to explain? Jo and Brick are the best rivalry in the whole series. Unstopable duo
He ran backwards with earplugs just to one up her U_U
See the exchange from the beginning of Episode 2
The Best part of RotI
They're so funny together oml. Wish they had even more time together as frenemies
what does propaganda mean
that whole scene when they’re arguing about who had the better run changed my brain chemistry
When even the official compliation of Jo vs Lightning moments just gives us more Jo vs Brick ones...
The roti rivalry
They were super funny in roti and I love them with all of my heart
WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN BRICK ANTAGONIST WHAT????? FRESH TV SCRAPS THE BEST IDEAS EVER R YOU SRS?? LIKE IMAGINE HIM AND SCOTT EITHER COMING TOGETHER WITH AN ALLIANCE OR ANOTHER RIVALRY THAT WOULDVE BEEN AWESOME HELLO???? (im in my brick era hes literally my fav char in roti im so normal abt him)
