The comments are open for conversation. It is far more important to do this work, than to not simply because you’re not ready to share what you uncover. Shame is deep in all of us, truth surfaces slowly. Just remember, you have literally nothing to prove to this group, Spirit already knows all your secrets and loves you simply for being, this work is for collective healing. Once the eyes are open and the emotions are unstuck and the energy is able to move freely within and around us, that is when we can truly change things- both within and around us. More on Heart Math in a future post, but in short- the Electromagnetic Field of your Heart is unfathomably powerful. We do this work so we can utilize that power for the highest good of all life everywhere. You might already feel energy getting stirred up and beginning to move inside you and beginning to challenge you to feel bigger feelings than your body thinks it can handle. Channel the energy of those feelings and breathe through them, if your heart is too full of pain and love, send it out in beams from your chest- in so doing, you open to receive as well. Ground, center, channel, clear. Self-care is beyond essential during this challenge - we are responsible for our own energy, and making sure it doesn’t become blocked in new ways as we go through this process of unblocking. Fear of not knowing who you’ll be if you let yourself feel big things is really real. I promise, you will not cease to exist, you will only become ever closer to your truest self. We’ve run out of time. The Black Holocaust will not stop if we don’t commit to changing ourselves. The government is not going to stop Black Genocide no matter who we elect or what laws we pass. Bodycams are not going to stop cops from murdering Black people in broad daylight. This is a personal, spiritual issue. We need to humble ourselves before the unconditional power, mercy and loving embrace of the Divine. Now. If we wish to ever see true freedom of any sort in this country. If we wish to ever feel truly free in ourselves. This is not work that can be driven by the ego. This is not work that can succeed without the Grace and protection of God. Spirit knows your shadows and loves you still. But our shadows will continue to rule this nation if we do not bravely commit to stripping ourselves naked in front of the mirror of our own spirit. While this work is uncomfortable and heartbreaking, it will not break you. It will birth you. You already live with negativity, guilt, shame, fear, and paralysis of some sort in your life. Perhaps this ongoing discomfort is how you validate your worth and define your sacrifice. Perhaps this ongoing discomfort is how you justify not going deeper. But you have experienced emotional and spiritual pain, so you can definitely face shadow work. What are you afraid of learning about yourself? We are here to learn, not to be perfect. We are here to learn not to be perfect. . . We are here to learn, not to be perfect. We are not here to PROVE anything. We are not here to be “productive.” We are not here to be “successful.” We are not here to be “attractive.” We are here to embody The Divine and through learning to love that magnanimous Oneness That Connects Us All, we learn to love the Divine Beloved Self. Every cell of your being is Spirit Incarnate, which is already more perfect than any judgement-based illusion no matter how seductive the gratification of achievement might be. . . We are here to learn not to be perfect. What better school than life on Earth in a Human body to learn exactly HOW to not be perfect. We are given endless opportunities daily to be imperfect. In fact, everything we do is imperfect by the cultural standard metric. However, everything we do is inherently perfect by the Spirit-driven metric that perfection is the gift of existence itself. . . When we commit ourselves to learning something that we have identified as a resonant lesson, we commit to accepting that the only reason it needs to be learned is because it has been programmed into THE BUILT IN FORGETTOR (more on this in my upcoming post on Letting Go). Shadow integration is slow work, judgement is everywhere. A common impulse with spiritual work is to even judge ourselves based on how quickly we “get” a lesson. One of my most favorite most beautiful things is the softness that comes with accepting that the really important lessons are ones we get to gently bring ourselves back to over and again, day after day. How do we heal the programming that makes us fall so easily into judgment? . Here, the Yin-Yang school of thought is incredibly helpful. There are five principal characteristics of the relationship between Yin and Yang. 1. All things have a Yin aspect and a Yang aspect (they exist only in relation to one another), 2. Any Yin or Yang aspect can be further divided into Yin and Yang, 3. Yin and Yang mutually create each other, 4. Yin and Yang control each other, 5. Yin and Yang transform into each other. . Each principle supports the other 4, so in moments when I am trying to wriggle out of principle 2 (the infinite divisibility) I can use the others to catch myself. Remembering that judgment has no place in a world where polarity and opposites exist exclusively within the quantum law of balance as dynamic. There is no aspect of life so simple that it can be categorized as “good” or “bad” for the sake of easing the mind. Especially if you are walking The Path. Especially if you are committed to Shadow Work. In order to see our personal and collective shadows we must look at them much more deeply than the layer at which judgment happens. When we see darkness and reject it we compartmentalize it rather than integrate it - this only makes it bigger. When we see the darkness in an entity (friend, partner, family, public figure, institution, system, corporation, organization...) and reject it, we compartmentalize the fractal of that reality which lives inside each and every one of us rather than explore and integrate it. We truly suffer for this program. Yin-Yang can help us deprogram. . The judgment program is complex because while it originated in species survival, it has been adulterated, compounded and amplified by modern Western culture. The Spiritual Path in all its divergent branches, is often described as a journey of ego eradication. It’s true that if we allow ourselves to be slaves to the superficial demands of our ego, that it can do more harm than good. This detriment often shows up in our emotional, psychological, spiritual and interpersonal lives in moments when the ego thrashes about rejecting a scenario that is out of our control. Jealousy is an excellent example. When the ego wants us to “win” and for the other person or to “lose” this is due to a fear of digging deeper, or more likely simply not knowing how to dig deeper seeing as we were never taught how. It is NOT because your ego is evil. And it is NOT because you’re bad at digging deep. . The ego is essential to both survival and character. A desire to cultivate a healthy ego is a much gentler allowance than whipping up all the resistance that comes from trying to destroy it. Within the Jungian model, the ego determines the journey of the first half of our lives- figuring out who we are in terms of our skills, talents, interests and desires. Then the second half of our lives is about going deeper. We can utilize the ego in order to know which aspects of ourselves deserve deeper attention. . . If we write off the ego as an entity to be removed from who we are, we lose so many opportunities to truly love ourselves. Perhaps we can develop a mostly neutral but somehow tender affinity for the ego by seeing it as a North Star. Dear ego, please steer us towards the aspects of our emotional and spiritual shadows who so crave the light. Our Shadows are parts of ourselves. Parts harshly judged, neglected and shunned. Parts feared and resisted. Parts of our dear dear imperfect selves that we have repressed, suppressed and oppressed so violently for so many years that our Shadows have their own shadows. Shadows are borne out of our humanity, no one is free of them. They come from our cultural programming, our family’s generational trauma, our tender spirit’s self-protective mechanisms and a million other places. . The Shadows become beasts of neglect, tortured and distorted in their ostracization. It has been shared with me from Spirit that the underlying pathology of so many of our illnesses is the disease of living an unwitnessed life. We are dying of neglect, from the disease of not being seen. We can begin the slow work of healing collective wounds by being willing to bear witness to our own shadows and by being dedicated to softening, befriending and integrating them. . It has been said by many a sage that the only thing we can really do as individuals to help the state of the World is to deal with our own shadows. Especially if you walk the path, especially if you see and prioritize the collective spiritual evolution of the human race, especially if you love the Earth, especially if you feel responsible for the slice of the Divine which is embodied within your very own physical constraints. Each person is responsible for the many spirits which reside within themselves. . New Shadows crop up daily, for survival is ever-evolving. This means that part of our initiation into Shadow integration is an acknowledgement that this will be perpetual work. We do not finish Shadow work. A baseline of acceptance that this will be a lifetime dedication is perhaps the greatest act of self-love we can possibly offer ourselves. . I invite you to soften into these ideas while bringing some of your more obvious Shadows to the forefront. Grief is Love in disguise. Perhaps it’s true. Perhaps you’ve heard it before. Perhaps the idea comforts you and helps things make sense. * Or maybe it pisses you off and you don’t buy that belief at all. I guess that’s why I'm the bitchy mystic. I’m not here to comfort you, but this work can comfort you if you let it. I’m here to remind you of these concepts that live deep inside each of us, who we know intimately in the place where we walk the shadow’s edge. * I’m here to say the truths that hit you like those jokes where you laugh because it’s too close to the shadow’s edge. Your eyes well up, you get that feeling like you might fall off that cliff, you laugh. Your body responds before your mind can revolt at the challenge. Laughter is the chariot that you ride to the other side of the shadow. * Here you can soften and let yourself settle in. Often the bigger feelings need some time to settle. You can take your time, that’s why it’s a coloring book. You have to take your time. Comedy can be instant magic shadow integration, those are some really good wizards. I’m not that good a wizard, but I know the alchemy of attention. * Grief is love in disguise. We know it involves love as a key ingredient. Even if the love is distorted and the grief doesn’t make sense yet. That’s the shadow. That’s the journey. Everyone must walk their own path when it comes to shadow integration.
