It was always, oh we forgot to give you this piece of evidence, or we did an updated autopsy that completely changes the trial, and even worse, the police detectives screwed up again, sir. Seriously, his job would be a lot easier if there were less idiots in the police force.
Sifting through the papers once more, his hand hit something under the papers. Oh right, he had brought the new issue of Steel Samurai with him, in case he got bored. It seemed like his decision to bring it had paid off.
Fishing the book out from under the stack of papers, he sneaked it into the inside cover of the case file, making it look as if he were actually working and looking at the file and not a comic book. It would be disgraceful as the chief prosecutor if he was seen reading such a book.
The young woman let out a sigh of relief; she hadn't been caught staring at the man, nor had her footsteps upon the pathway been loud enough to signal her approach.
Still, in fear of getting caught, she averted her gaze quickly and sidestepped off of the path, as if something else had caught her interest.
He appears to be busy, she thought; remembering the pile of papers that he seemed to be pouring over. Of course, a man looking at a pile of papers probably -- certainly -- wouldn't be suspicious. And Maya knew that doing such a thing wasn't a tell-tale sign of who the man was, or his profession...
So, it was entirely possible that she didn't recognize the man as she thought she had.
She mulled over the situation for a few minutes -- she could always approach the man and ask him, straight out, if he was whom she thought he was. Or she could continue gazing at him from a distance and try to piece together if she did, in fact, know of this man.
With a determination that certainly didn't match her steps, she cautiously approached him, being careful not to shock or startle him.
She cleared her throat gently before saying, " Excuse me... your name wouldn't happen to be Miles Edgeword, would it?"
It was something like that, wasn't it? Though she knew that her sister, Mia, wasn't entirely good at remembering people's names. And it had been quite some time since the two Fey siblings talked; let alone discussed cases and prosecutors and lawyers.
