They're just questions, Leon. In answer to your query, they're written down for me. It's a test, designed to provoke an emotional response... Shall we continue?

Listen/purchase: Some Kind of Distortion by 800beloved
Released this week, Some Kind of Distortion is the third LP by Michigan’s darkly dreaming purveyors of painterly post-punk that hangs in the air and subconscious - like the smell of freshly baked cherry pie and scorched engine oil does in the town of Twin Peaks.
I noted on first listen a few months ago, “The songs, although still meticulously crafted, seem to breathe and wander more on their own. Especially with Dent on Hill, I feel a move from renderings of specific moments or feelings… to embodiments of distorted memories and emotional residue, like a ghost ship in the subconscious.”
“Do you need a ride? I got nowhere to go. We could kill a little time…”
Dent on Hill, Cicadas and the propulsive closer Die Slow hook me on repeated listens the most. The latter paints a scene where 800beloved’s music is best listened to: in a moving car on a deserted stretch of road. In this scenario though, something ominous is growing over the hypnotic throb of the engine, and it becomes apparent that things are unlikely to end well.
800beloved main man Sean Lynch commented, “Getting some distance from it now, sort of reminds me what would happen if you opened up some CAN, added a dash of early [Sonic Youth] guitar and flew in John Carpenter to creep all the bitches out before throwing the whole rendezvous into a vacuum.”
As Lynch’s studio prowess and songwriting skills have grown since 2009′s Bouquet, so has his frame of reference and ability to create new ways of making music that lingers with you long after the engine is turned off.
