The Running Novelist
Adapted from an article by the author Haruki Murakami. I’m sorry it gets so crooked. I’m still new at this, but I’m always improving.
BONEBOY
I promised a rescan and I delivered.
Portland OR is a very political city, by which I mean that on any given day I’d say there’s about a 1/8th chance of some major protest going down somewhere. It was fun at first, felt good to be a part of something you believe in, ya feel? But as I attended more and more it started feeling like people were just screaming at each other to validate their own egos and looking for an excuse to get in a fight. Started seeing some more bizarre dynamics with this whole Antifa bullshit and white pride rallies in the wake of the racially charged murder of two young men a few weeks ago now. A real tragedy, but that’s a comic to be written another day when I’m not feeling so down about it all.
This was based on the May Day protest (pepsi can riots?) in which I witnessed riot cops restrain and arrest a 6th grade girl for throwing a soda can. Wish I had a picture to show you, it was a poignant scene, at least for me.
HIPPY WITCH #1 “Lost”
I’m still trying to figure out what these two are, but they’re trying to figure themselves out too so I think it works out fine. My favorite characters to draw, I’m trying to get at least 5 or 6 of these short lil’ stories out by the end of the summer to compile into a zine or something. Stay tuned.
Me! (Part 2)
I spent alot of time this past year hanging out with the liberal arts college crowd here and I met some real sweet people, but one night in a haze of cocaine and 1980′s dance music I came to the realization that I deeply detested the scene as a whole. Too much hypocrisy and too many posers. I have not been back to their campuses since.
I did some fanart for my friends devestating grindcore band GOATBREATHER. pretty good shit, in a crack-smokin, gravel-chewin, dive-feet-first-into-a-woodchipper kinda way, ya feel?
Edit: Check em out -> https://goatbreather.bandcamp.com
One Day I was hanging out in a big library doodling in my draw-book and listening to some Vashti Bunyan when I met a man wearing a button-down dress shirt and thick spectacles with a CalArts tote bag. I asked him to look at my drawings because getting into the character animation program has always been a dream of mine, and he very politely told me to start from scratch. The way he said it was that the school is looking to teach you to be an animator, not an artist, meaning being a great drawer is a prerequisite, and apparently the best way to show your a great drawer is to be good at drawing real people. So i checked out a couple of books that had photos of people and did these two that day in an attempt to broaden my horizons and also test out my nifty expensive art pens from JAPAN that my mother and father had bought for me as a birthday gift. I’ll keep doing still-lifes as I go, but I think drawing shitty cartoons are more fun.

BAD ASS! Started as a submission for the life form drawing club but ran out of time. Haven't gotten around to finishing it yet...
My friend Smomin. He’s in a band called Goatbreather.
