Two days after having met the woman, Clarissa picked up what she had requested; a contract signed between the princess and prince of Naples and the Grand Duke of Tuscany. She slipped into her chamber when she was absent and put it in the first drawer of her vanity along with the note that read;
You have what you asked
Bring me a dress
Beautiful like the ones you wear...
Astonished, she blinks at the marble, reeling with terror; for the shock of it makes her ill, and she gulps down a deep breath, fighting back nausea. Even breathing feels wrong at the moment; it feels like a warm liquid pours from her throat, thick and sticky, and collects in her mouth. The shock strikes somewhere inside her chest like an electric bolt and numbs her out like a drug. A writhing horror twists itself in the pits of her stomach, too, and she pauses to collect herself, breathless and numb. ââI am forever in your debt.â there is a pause, and her thick lashes droop lower, âI need you to retrieve the contract the Grand Duke was forced to sign, rendering him beholden to Arianne Dâ Angelis and the Prince Consort of Naplesâ yes?.â she asks, a flicker of fear in her voice.Â
There is a few moments of silence and her eyes roam her person again. The dress she wears, though simple, it is stunning and she looks down at the poor excuse of a dress that covers her body. Her hands begin to tremble with the intensity of her anger and self-loathe. The woman attracts her attention again when she speaks, the restlessness she feels is evident in her tone and voice. She rolls another marble back to her, a positive response to her request. She knew most well what she spoke of and where it was kept. A moment passed and Clarissa kept her eyes on the woman, she knew her as Charlesâ godmother; Amphelice. She wondered if she needed anything else. She circled her a little, making sure she could hear her footsteps.
A gust whips hard through the window, and it blows her candle out, leaving her standing there, in the midst of the vast hallway with her heart swelling and rising, and her senses prickling. Darkness sinks down over her, like deep water; it looks like everything is drowning in itâ she, tooâ and she flinches in response, gasps and swallows hard, her heart racing in terror, for the thick blankets of darkness that envelop her are endless and vast, and she feels her blood run cold as an overwhelming ripple of fear sweeps over her and a steadily escalating sense of foreboding envelopes her. Her fear (however buried) is primal and manifests in the way that her pupils dilate and her breath collects in the hollow of her throat. She garners what willpower and courage she possesses, and allows her eyes to close for a secondâ then, she speaks. ââI shall offer you what your heart desires; for tis me who serves you, not you, me.â she says, her voice cracking, and then, she collects her strength and takes a half-step forward, tosses a handful of marbles toward her general direction; she is breathing a little harder now, too, and her stomach is roiling and cramping with an unsettling sensation. âwillâŚ,â she swallows, âwill you help me, Maiden?â
Her eyes remain fixed in her woman, for unlike most people she has gotten used to the darkness, her eyes more keen than others. Despite the femaleâs collected demeanor, her breath and gasps give away the fear that settles within her. A smirk forms on her deformed features and she remains still, out of what little light the window has to offer. The words spoken to her please her, the voice so soft and pretty ---yes, a beautiful voice, in fact--- that Clarissa envies her for she has all she wished to be; beautiful with a voice like a silk, a melody every time she opens her mouth to speak. It awakes her urge to destroy the woman and make her pay for crimes she never committed against her. She does not. Instead, she recollects herself and watches as the marbles are put to the floor, rolling towards her. Her hand cuts the soft sound they have been making against the stone floor as she picks them up. Her eyes study them, finding the blue of their color too pretty. With a steady hand she sends one back to the woman. Yes, she will help her. What is not mentioned is that it will be at a price.
To the deepest halls of the castle, she goes, unassuming and self-contained; for it is her determination to garner what help she can, where she can, a woman on a mission, collected and focused; she has made a promise, and she is eager to keep it and prove herself useful. She slithers through the vastness of the halls, making her full skirts swirl around her while she draws her path toward the depths of the castle, toward its north wing, hurried in gaitâ it is half past two, and the floors are overflowing with moonlight, her candle, pale and flickering, casting a collection of shadows over the curves of her face. There is a pillared hallway in the north side of the castle, long and narrow, and she walks toward its end, a mass of dark shadows slipping over her; the deeper she moves, the thicker the sullen darkness that envelopes her becomes, and she half-pauses mid-step, swallows hard and allows her hand to skate over the wallâswollen with water and moistureâ while her eyes comb through the corners of the corridorâ a big, echoing place; her senses prickle with the weight of the silence that plagues the lower parts of the palace, and her high anticipations. Somewhere, rivulets of water are dripping off the cracks in the walls and pooling on the floors, and the foreboding silence swallows the pattering sound, the shadows thick and crackling with the moisture of the ceilings and floorsâshe senses a peculiar pulse in the air, and her heartbeat swells; for she believes the rumors to be true, and her senses detect a particular stiffness in the vast darkness that is stretched all around her. ââhello?â she calls out, her throat itching, and her voice echoes off the walls. There is a long, heavy pause, and she swallows harder, her heart leaping in her mouth. âare you here? I have no intentions to hurt you, s'il vous plait.â she says, feeling her flesh crawl.
When the dark veil of blackness, often adorned with some flickering lights, falls over the French castle, this is when she thrives the most. For most are asleep and, aside of the guards, few chose to pace the long, dimly lit hallways at such hours of the night. By now she has developed her senses and even when she walks through the old passageways, finding her path to just about any part of the castle, she could hear ones footsteps. For tonight she has followed the young woman since she showed her wondering the hallways, alone, a sole candle in her hand to light her way. When she reaches her destination, Clarissa peaks from the end of the hallway, well aware that she cannot be seen by the beautiful woman. A fact that she took notice, almost instantly, for she is pretty and has long, beautiful thick locks, plum lips. It makes her angry and she hears her speak but has not offer her anything. Clarissa opens a window that creaks and frees a generous amount of dust in the air as she pulls it open and the wind that blows in is strong and blows the womanâs candle out ---something that makes her smile to herself, as if she has had a small victory, for if she cannot be as pretty as this woman she can scare her.
As most of you are probably aware, our Clarissa has not been as active as we would have liked. That was mainly because we had not come to a decision as to how we were going to use her, what her part as a character in the roleplay was going to be. Recently we came up with a idea, so that is bound to increase her activity level âand hopefully the amount of in character drama in the roleplay.
The characters are free to interact with Clarissaâs character when and if needed be. However, that will happen only through plotting, since her existence is unknown and to most that resident in the French castle is simply known as the castle ghost.
Starting today and forth, Clarissa will be leaving notes/letters in charactersâ bedchambers, or somewhere were she will be sure that only they will find them.
How the notes/letters will work:
For once, do not reblog the post that will be made on Clarissaâs blog and reply to it or start asking who it is that left the note/letter. You may reblog it to write about how your character found the note though, just do not use it as a way to contact Clarissa as that would not make sense.
The character who is tagged and mentioned on the post and only that character finds and reads the note/letter, unless you have plotted something different âwith confirmation by the admins. Only that character knows about it and whoever they choose to share it with or show it to through paragraphs and dashboard conversations.
You do not have to write a paragraph for your character every time they get a note/letter. You can always mention it in a gif starter.
Please note that the notes/letters will be created solely for the purpose of bringing in character drama to the roleplay.
For any questions, please do not hesitate to message us!
If it is an open note, means that she left it somewhere for anyone to find. Only one character can reply to it, so it makes more sense, as multiply people would not be able to find the same note at the same time --unless you want to have a paragraph/gif interaction with another player so both the characters find it.
Please do not take them personally! Clarissa will not always speak the truth about your character, sometimes she just want to create some drama amongst the people of the castle.
