It was right there, I swear!
What's it that you lost now?
Are you being victimised again? When was I ever victimised?
Knock, knock
Hey.
Jane.
Text: Oh awesome. Could I come by in a few and pick them up?
Text: Of course.
Text: Holden, did I lend you my history notes? I can't find them anywhere.
Text: Yes, last week. They’re here if you want them.
"Magic Kingdom," Jane replied, smiling ever so slightly at his words. Of course he’d want to see Peter Pan, the two were quite similar. The two of them set out on a walk towards the monorail that would take them there, and as they stood there, she remembered something from when they were smaller. Leaning over to the boy so she didn’t have to shout over the other noisy people in the station, she remarked, "Do you remember how we’d pretend to be Lost Boys?" Her mother had said they were too old for childish games such as that, but twelve year old Jane had been determined to have fun during the summer she spent in Maine with Holden, and one of their trips to the movies had revealed their mutual interest in the story.
Holden followed her to the monorail, and sat rather close to her so as not to sit next to the middle-aged tourist on his right. A faint smiled crossed Holden's lips when she brought back the memories of playing Lost Boys those summers spent together in Maine. He had always loved Peter Pan ever since his mother had read it to him when he was a child -- she herself being the Last and the Best of the Peter Pans. "I remember," he recounted, quite happily. "And we'd always play like your dog was the old crocodile chasing Hook all around. Hell, I don't think D.B. liked being Hook, though."
❝Well it’s really up to us. We have a pass for all the parks… The only thing already planned is the group dinner at Cinderella’s castle tonight with all the characters. We should probably show up to that.❞ Jane said quietly.
❝But our choices are Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and Animal Kingdom, so it’s up to you.❞
It would be good for him they had promised. In a way it had been true. Despite the commercial phoniness of the parks, Holden did enjoy the innocence and joy the children he saw felt meeting their favorite characters and finding a land meant for a child's imagination. It was a land where they could never grow up if they really wanted to. It was a good place in all.
❝Which has Peter Pan?❞
[ ✖ closed ] ❝Where exactly are we going now, Jane?❞
Oh, Holden...
Holden…
So you mean to- You mean to say that there’s never been a single moment in your life that you haven’t been absolutely miserable?
Well there was maybe one time I wasn't.
*she shrugs* To be honest, I take care of John and Michael more than she does.
You're like my older brother D.B. He was always taking care of me and Allie and old Phoebe until he started prostituting himself out in Hollywood.
I don’t know. Mother just said that we were coming to a small town called Sparkwood. My brothers and I know that we don’t object to her and Father, it would be pointless. They just wouldn’t listen.
That so? Interesting. That's how mothers and fathers are. They just never listen to a goddam thing you've got to say.
For Chrissake, get off me. You're acting like a goddam flit.
Well, it’s nice to meet you Jim Steele. My name’s Wendy Darling, I just got here.
Yeah, it's a goddam pleasure and all that I'm sure.
What brings you to town?
What’s your name?
The name's Jim Steele, ma'am.
Get off me would you, Charles Wallace?
