Psalm 108:4-5
Pope Francis' Prayer for April 2016: Small Farmers and African Christians Universal Pope Francis' universal prayer intention for April 2016 is that "small farmers may receive a just reward for their precious labor."
Lord, you have given us this Earth in your goodness, so that we all may steward it and reap its fruits. Instead, some of us exploit it. We exploit the earth and one another by unfair treatment and outright persecution. Send your Spirit among us. Give us a spirit of justice and hope. Help us to do justice, and to keep hope in Your Son when justice is not done. Help us to pray unceasingly for small farmers, who are often subject to economic injustice, and Christians in Africa, who witness to hope in spite of the persecution they face.
This we pray in Jesus's name, Amen.

As with everything in our faith, Lent ultimately points to the resurrection. As Paul says, if Christ is not risen then our faith is in vain. It is in Christ's resurrection that we know we too will be resurrected to either live forever with him, or live forever apart from him. Our earthly lives are temporary, and Lent is temporary, but the promise of the resurrection reminds us that we must ultimately be preparing for Forever.

i keep failing jesus. it gets me depressed. it's feels like everyone else is in the gang except me. ty
It's easy to succumb to the temptation of looking at the faith or religiosity of another person and getting discouraged. But only God sees the heart. For all we know, those people who seem to have it together are struggling as much as we are. Not to mention, Jesus didn't come to institute a gang or club. He came to bear the Good News of forgiveness. In seeking that forgiveness together, we have community, but it's not inclusion in that community that makes a relationship with Jesus.Instead of taking all the burden on yourself to not fail Jesus, try turning that burden over to Jesus. Jesus knows already that you regret your failures, and that alone is repentance and prayer. He sees your heart. Now try offering all those failures over to him. Let him free you from the idea that you need to avoid sin through sheer force of will and personal fortitude. That's a false teaching - you can't just pick yourself up by your bootstraps and be saved through virtue. Only through grace from God can we avoid failing or offending Jesus. When we avoid sin, that's because we've been given the grace by which to do so. This starts with 1. Acknowledging we are sinners, 2. Offering our sin to the Lord and 3. Staying open to the grace that helps us honor God through frequent prayer, reading Scripture, and participation in the Sacraments.Good luck, and God bless you!
Today's Lenten WORD is 'Prayer'."This is how you are to pray:Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."

Mater Christi Dolorosa
Wound
Every torture inflicted on the body of Jesus was a wound in the heart of the Mother.
- St Jerome
"At the cross her station keeping, Stood the mournful mother weeping, Close to Jesus to the last. Through her heart, his sorrow sharing, All his bitter anguish bearing, Now at length the sword has passed.”
For a while there were two feasts in honor of the Sorrowful Mother: one going back to the 15th century, the other to the 17th century. For a while both were celebrated by the universal Church: one on the Friday before Palm Sunday, the other in September.
The principal biblical references to Mary’s sorrows are in Luke 2:35 and John 19:26-27. The Lucan passage is Simeon’s prediction about a sword piercing Mary’s soul; the Johannine passage relates Jesus’ words to Mary and to the beloved disciple.
Many early Church writers interpret the sword as Mary’s sorrows, especially as she saw Jesus die on the cross. Thus, the two passages are brought together as prediction and fulfillment.
St. Ambrose (December7) in particular sees Mary as a sorrowful yet powerful figure at the cross. Mary stood fearlessly at the cross while others fled. Mary looked on her Son’s wounds with pity, but saw in them the salvation of the world. As Jesus hung on the cross, Mary did not fear to be killed but offered herself to her persecutors.
