Sinbad failed to flinch at Ever’s words, his fingers gripping at his sword. Despite his rather calm exterior, it was clear that through his words that Ever was not welcome here.

“My initial attack was a misunderstanding. I know you are aware of that.” Sinbad started, yet he did not show any guilt for his actions. He had thought Ever was apart of the Mariadel Company, trying to keep the slaves from their freedom. If he had been in a better state of mind, he probably would have thought it through more first. However, given the circumstances of where they were at that time, it just wasn’t possible. Realizing that Ja’far still had no idea where Sinbad had even met this dangerous woman in the first place, Sinbad thought it was best to explain their history while he had the chance.

“We met during my time at Ria Venus Island, during the… rebellion I caused.” That was putting it lightly. Then again, Sinbad did not want to go into too much detail about it. His time spent with the Mariadel Company was a dark, unspoken memory filled with terrifying torture and punishment. Ever’s involvement in it did not make things any easier. Had their meeting been at a more convent time, maybe the two of them could have helped one another. Yet this was far too late.

She was a monster in disguise.

“You cannot try to play the victim here.” Sinbad’s eyes darkened as he returned his gaze to the Guardian before him. “I’ve seen what you truly are and I will not allow your evil to corrupt this world any further.”

A lump formed in Ever’s throat and she found herself stepping back for once. The tension in her back was probably the only thing keeping her from shaking out of frustration. How could she ever even begin to explain herself to these two? She was innocent! Not that they would believe her. They seemed pretty much ready to go in for the kill at any moment. The mention of a rebellion that he supposedly caused made her wonder. what sort of horrors they’d been exposed to in the past. Who hurt them? As she recalled, Sin had been running from someone and mistook her for an enemy. She didn’t have enough time to question him before Vex decided to dance her way into the waking world. This was what most people saw. The evil dwelling inside her host. Now, Ever had a choice. She could either just give up on her mission now, or she could try to fight these guys. Her gaze flited between the two of them, sweat rolling down her face. She’d already gotten her butt kicked by both of them separately. There was no doubt in her mind that they would kill her if they worked together.

“You just don’t get it.” She breathed out, half to herself and then came her real response.

“So, are you going to try and finish the job then? Is that it?”

The mention of the rebellion made Ja’far’s icy gaze leave the woman’s to shift back towards the older teen, a sympathetic softness melting his hardness just a touch as his lips formed a frown. The freckled boy knew it weighed heavily on Sinbad’s shoulders and would likely continue to do so for the rest of his life. He’d done what he thought was right at the expense of innocent lives. As tough as it was to see Sinbad so distraught over the result Ja’far knew this wouldn’t be the last time it happened, not if he still wished to become a King of his own country. Sacrifices would have to be made - including human lives.

And, if necessary, Ja’far was willing to be one of them.

Ja’far felt out of place for a moment between the two. Whatever they were talking about must have occurred before Sinbad was freed but her obvious uneasiness garnered no sympathy from the former assassin.

“If he wills it.” he stated, both his words and his gaze showing that he was willing to trade blows with her once again if Sinbad wished.

“Enlighten you?”

Ja’far parroted Sinbad’s words with clear distaste, his fingers balling slowly into fists at his sides as the anger he had struggled to keep under control as of late threatened to consume him. How could he stand there and talk as if he understood? So what if he’d seen something back in Valefor’s dungeon? Teeth gritted behind his lips as he spoke again.

“So you saw a glimpse or two of what my life’s been like and that makes you an expert in all things me.” How sickening. “If you want me to enlighten you then you’ll have to experience every single fucking thing they ever did to me. You’ll have to go days without seeing the sun while learning how to kill a man in hundreds of different ways. You’ll have to slit your parent’s throats and do the same to other kids just like you, pitted against one another like starving dogs. If you’re lucky enough to live maybe you’ll get to eat. You’ll have to let them tear you apart and modify your body as they see fit without any way to ease the pain.”

Such heavy words from a child so young.

“Don’t. Ever. Talk like you know me.”

I quit one of my ultra time consuming jobs yesterday, meaning I finally get my nice three day gap again and can get back to RPing much more frequently. I don’t plan to get another one either, since I’ll be focusing now on getting my shit together to move to Washington state in the coming months.

Ever’s words caused the future king to fold his arms, quickly masking his shock. Seeing her back here brought horrid memories to the teenager. She reminded him of the place he had been desperately trying to forget. He had managed to be fine around all his friends and subordinates, but the moment she showed up, he felt extremely uneasy.

“No, Ja’far.” Sinbad ordered simply with a wave of his hand, wishing to halt any further actions from the small child of absolute fury. “You should be thankful you didn’t do too much damage.” He warned his companion with a rather hesitant glance. Angering Ever was the last thing Sinbad wanted. He had already occurred her demon’s wrath and needless to say it was an experience he didn’t want to have again anytime soon.

“I thought you would stay away.” Sinbad’s words were cold as he stared down at Ever. This wasn’t time for games. Normally he would do his best to be polite to a woman, but she was different. She was dangerous and he knew just what she was capable of. “Haven’t you already done enough, or were you not satisfied from before?”

Fat cow. Ever’s eye twitched ever so slightly and she inhaled slowly through her nose while refusing to look at the one called Ja’far. Seeing his stupid little face would only serve to make her angrier and that just would not do. SO- it would probably just be best to respond to the other.

“Believe it or not, I actually have other business to attend to around here and I was just finishing with a mission when this little shit head got up in my business and then he attacked me.. JUST LIKE /YOU/ DID ACTUALLY. What is wrong with you people?? ” The blonde made a mental note just then to try and keep Byron from giving her duties in this world. It only seemed to cause trouble.

The freckled child had shown great bravado and enthusiasm to fight on Sinbad’s behalf but his confidence visibly caved into a state of confusion and, though he’d probably spit in your face if you pointed it out to him, concern.

Ja’far’s gaze shifted abruptly to Ever as she spoke, his vicious words pacified but his youthful eyes bone-chillingly cold.

He knew in his heart of hearts that the older teen he had pledged to dedicate the rest of his life to wouldn’t just attack anyone unless he had a good reason, unlike himself. Sinbad was a just, compassionate soul despite his sometimes annoying naivety.

“Sin wouldn’t hurt anyone unless they deserved it.” Ja’far stated in a low, matter-of-fact tone. Choose your next words carefully, stranger. He won’t tolerate baseless slander.

He might not have known what’d been written on the scroll the other was looking for, but the lost paper was obviously something very important to him. Alibaba wanted to get it back as much as the snowy haired boy did! But, he was sure there wasn’t anything he could do to help actually him, either.

…Or was there? Maybe there was something else Alibaba could do for him after all!

“—Hey, I know!” Alibaba perked up at the thought, suddenly chirping his idea. “What if I took you to the place where they usually dump old scrolls like that? It’s kinda late,” And dark, for that matter, “but if we stay quiet, we should be okay.”

“What-- Really?” Ja’far’s crestfallen expression brightened at the hopeful prospect. There was hope for his hide to be saved! He couldn’t scramble out of that trash heap fast enough. “Well come on, let’s go!” The night wasn’t getting any younger. With eagerness written all over his freckled face he moved over to the younger child and reached out a hand to help him out of the pile.

“Oh, uh... I’m Ja’far, by the way.” His introduction came tumbling out in uncertain mumble. He wasn’t used to giving away his name so casually but apparently doing so was the norm for the rest of the world. Good manners or whatever. In his former line of work it was essential to keep an air of anonymity in the event their targets somehow escaped or survived.

“I take pride in that name thank you.” Sinbad teased, his fingers continuing to stroke Ja’far’s cheek, taking note of the fact that Ja’far wasn’t exactly struggling to leave his lap. Well that seemed like a good sign. He might as well take advantage of that situation if Ja’far was allowing it. Who knows how much longer they had together like this before someone dared to disturb the King on this very… busy day.

“Although I must admit… why be the Lady Killer of the Seven Seas when having you is much more satisfying?” His voice dropped to a rather lewd whispering tone as he leaned back in his chair, letting his other hand slide up Ja’far’s covered back.

Yet his actions immediately came to a stop the moment he heard Ja’far’s little huff. Him? Old? Nothing could be worse than being called an old man! “Ouch. Here I am, treating you exceptionally well on this fine day and you are pulling insults.” The king pouted before leaning back up, his golden eyes staring right up to his advisor’s, pulling another smirk. “I can assure you… I am quite youthful.”

Ja’far was no stranger to this sort of situation. He would humor the taunting king right up until his ever vigilant ears picked up on the slightest sound of footsteps coming down the marbled hall. The swiftness of his retreat in that moment was truly a sight to behold.

“Forgive me, my king.” the advisor hummed with a chuckle of his own as he lowered his sleeve to reveal a small yet candid smile. “I can’t help but be a bit skeptical when some of your latest complaints have been about being ‘too tired’ to get your work done. How convenient it must be for you to have fatigue that can just pick and choose what it effects.”

Sinbad gave Ja’far a deadpan look the moment the younger boy tried to explain himself. Could Ja’far even hear the words he was saying?! “…Ja’far you can’t just tell people that. It’s a good thing I’m the one that found you instead of Rurumu, because I don’t think we need to remember what happens when she catches you swearing.” Sinbad shook his head at the memory. Rurumu was a lovely woman and definitely someone he looked up to, but no one wanted to make her angry.

The teen stood there for a moment, just observing the situation as he brought his sword to his side. He could have stopped using his djinn equip, but he didn’t know just what future fights might break out. He still had plenty of magoi left so that wouldn’t be an issue.

It was then that he remembered that Ja’far had actually been fighting someone. “Now who is that you’ve been attacking hmm? Surely it wasn’t that bad for you to go and outright attack such a fine woman like—” Sinbad had turned his head, getting ready to woo the woman to get out of trouble but he froze the moment he saw who it was. Flashbacks ran through his mind as he remembered where he had seen this person before — a time and place he had been longing to forget.

“You—?!”

The panic that had the blonde on the edge of screaming again, slowly wore off as the two of them bickered amongst each other for a moment. The one who made his flash entrance was horribly familiar and it wasn’t until he turned to look at her that she realized just who he was.

“YOU.”

Oh boy she was mad. Her eyebrows knit close and her nose wrinkled as she scowled up at him. “You better tell this little knife slinging freak to leave me the hell alone and learn some respect..”

She didn’t like thinking about how she and Sinbad met and she was sure that he didn’t either. Unfortunately for him, he knew EXACTLY what she was and what she was capable of doing if pushed far enough.. well.. he knew Vexer. Playing the power card was never her preferred method of intimidation to be honest but right now it was all she had against these two.

“Shut up, I’ll do whatever the fuck I want! I’m not scared of you OR Rumuru!” Ja’far spit back in protest, his face pruning into another scowl as he jumped back to his feet and righted himself. Even if he wasn’t being entirely truthful in his reply he wasn’t about to admit it in front of a stranger. Give her ammunition? Over his dead body!

The boy could only watch then as Sinbad reacted to this supposed ‘damsel in distress’ and the interaction that unfolded was... odd. The frozen panic in the older teen’s amber gaze as he saw the blonde raised a number of red flags, and her response only confused him further. The anger Ja’far had haphazardly wielded up until this point was more or less the norm for him but as he refocused his gaze back on Ever his aggression reached a whole new peak.

Sinbad wouldn’t act like this without good reason. She was now a possible threat in the child’s eyes.

"Who does this fat cow think she is bossin’ you around like that?!” Ja’far hissed as he gripped the blades of his darts tightly, wanting nothing more than to throw one of them right between her eyes. “I’ll kill ‘er, you just say the word!”

The laughter continued once more as Ja’far tugged at him again, bringing his arm closer to wrap around the flustered advisor’s waist. With a smug grin on his lips, the king pulled Ja’far down to sit on his lap, letting his other hand stroke one of the white haired man’s heated cheeks.

“What? Can’t I do both?” He chuckled, his eyes filled with amusement. Of course, Sinbad knew his limits for how far he could go with this, but it wouldn’t stop him from having a bit of fun just rilling Ja’far up. “I suppose the secrecy of it is rather enjoyable. It makes it much more sinful, wouldn’t you agree?”

Ja’far was on the brink of snapping. He was being the rational one here and Sinbad was just laughing at him. LAUGHING! Laughing at something that could put his reputation at risk-

“Don’t you dare--!” the fuming male protested as Sinbad tugged at his arms, having a pretty good idea as to what his intentions were. There was some resistance on Ja’far’s part at first, not wanting to entertain the other’s charade. It was unfortunate for him that Sinbad was well versed in charming this prudish serpent, who inevitably found himself in the older man’s lap anyway. Gods, his face was so red he could have easily been mistaken as being sunburned.

How could he look so calm while saying such lewd things? Those amber eyes knowingly taunted him and the familiar touch to his face fractured his resolve.

“Of course you would shamelessly live up to your namesake so literally...” Ja’far’s voice grew quieter but still remained firm, not wanting the heightened volume to draw unwanted attention from outside while... well, like this. But he wasn’t actively trying to leave Sinbad’s lap, was he?

“Before long you’ll become a dirty old man.” Ouch. Low key shade from yours truly.

Sinbad had taken quite a long time to think about what to give Ja’far for Valentine’s Day. What could the Lady Killer of the Seven Seas possibly give to someone who he truly did care for? The ideas were endless but there was one thing that had stuck out in his mind.

“A vacation.”

If Ja’far wanted to protest, Sinbad would hold up his palm to silence him. “Ja’far, when is the last time you took a day off? A proper day off for that matter. You’ve always worked so hard in this office, and frankly, Sindria wouldn’t be the country it is today without your help.” The king gave his advisor a sincere smile before moving his held up palm to place it on the desk, leaning over Ja’far.

“But you push yourself too hard, Ja’far. If you could work in your sleep, there is no doubt that you would sleep here endlessly. You deserve a break. So this Valentine’s Day gift from me to you is a vacation. Spend it however you please. You could go travelling, or just relax.” His eyebrows then did a playfully little waggle as he moved closer, a teasing smirk spreading across his lips. “You could even come in and distract me from my work. I wouldn’t have any complaints.” Yeah okay he couldn’t resist that remark.

“The point is…” Sinbad grinned as he straightened himself up. “I want you to have a holiday and get some rest for as long as you need. So I’m sorry to say this Ja’far, but this gift isn’t refundable.”

It wasn’t two seconds after the King revealed his true intent that the advisor’s brow wrinkled, visibly displeased at Sinbad’s offer. A vacation?! There was no way he could afford to take a vacation, not while there was so much work to be done. Like clockwork Ja’far was ready to dismiss the offer but the monarch’s raised palm commanded his silence.

The freckled man huffed and reluctantly conceded to hear his argument. Being told he needed to take time off from his work wasn’t anything new to Ja’far and he was almost positive he would reject the proposition but the king’s opening statement of gratitude worked it’s magic to soften him up a bit.

“....” Ja’far glanced down at his unfinished scrolls on his desk for a few moments before finally answering. “If you are truly going to force my hand in this the last thing I want to do is distract you from your work.” He could feel his throat tighten as he spoke his next sentence, his internal conflict to accept this ‘gift’ at it’s peak. “But I suppose... this can wait until morning.” Or would it? Fine. He would leave the office for the day. He’d go somewhere else for a change of scenery. But Ja’far had every intention to take a few scrolls with him once Sinbad left.

A flurry of old food scraps and garbage soaring in his direction was the only answer Alibaba got in return; the blond forced to duck behind an old piece of wood to avoid being hit by flying debris as the other kid dove into the heap. Obviously this scroll of his was important, but how was that supposed to help!?
