I mean this completely untrue, everyone acknowledge and knows what Andre did, and yea they still ship it and understand the context. They just don’t talk about and condemn it 24/7. Whereas most people who ship Oscar and Rosalie don’t even know there is an almost 10 year age gap or that Rosalie was only a child when they met and Oscar was an adult. A lot of them also spend half their time online calling every other age gap as well as another Ikeda relationship with half the age gap grooming….THOSE are the hypocrites.

Rose of Versailles is special in that there is very little active fandom for it. Yet there are a whole lot of people saying incredibly wrong things about it, so they can win stupid arguments 24/7. Days long debates being had by people who haven’t read it, can’t read or have only “heard things”….All because we have been told it is so INFLUENTIAL, but no one really cares why or how, just yuribeserk. Yes, mega popular things that reached a broad audience are like that. It’s not some sort of debate win gotcha. Somehow fans of the series are supposed to care about all these dissimilar sprinkles of influence more then what the story actually is? Fans also know less about RoV than people who simply like something that it “influenced”, which they can never tell you how it did so in any meaningful way either. "it inspired all of yuri!". No it didn't, its influence is a rather small. It is tiny spec when compared to works that predate it by decades. If you are a fan of something that was influenced by RoV you are a scholar, if you are a fan of RoV you are a peasant. Unless being a fan is nothing more than going around telling people it’s a yuri, which it isn’t….that's ok for the most part...until it isn't then its all "RoV fans are hypocrites". I don't think most fans of the series are under the impression its a yuri. I honestly don’t know what goes on.
