Modern Steddie where Dustin is a big, big Corroded Coffin fan. He talks about it all the time, to the point where Steve has to physically shut him up whenever he gets too annoying.
One night, Steve is at the convenience store buying some snacks for his movie night with the kids that week, when he sees a familiar face close to the noodles display rack. He has to double-check, then google it real quick just to make sure, because Steve’s brain just can’t really believe Eddie Munson, Corroded Coffin’s lead singer and guitarist, is looking at a noodles display rack, late at night, in a convenience store in Hawkins, Indiana.
But it is him, there’s no doubt.
If it was any other celebrity, Steve would let the person be, but it’s Eddie Munson, the man Dustin’s idolized since he was twelve. Steve’s never gonna be able to forgive himself if he doesn’t at least ask the guy for an autograph and a picture; Dustin is never gonna forgive him if Steve doesn’t do it, really.
With that in mind, Steve approaches the guy. The only problem? Eddie Munson turns out to be a total dick.
He’s super rude, impatiently dismissive when Steve tries to talk to him. Steve can’t even finish a sentence before Munson is basically telling him to get lost. And Steve? Steve gets furious. Because that’s Dustin’s idol right there and the man is a fucking asshole.
“Oh, fuck you,” Steve snaps back. “You think you can treat people like shit just because you’re famous? Big fucking deal. Being famous doesn’t make you special, just makes you a well-known prick.” He starts to turn around to stomp out of the store but thinks better of it and faces Munson again. “And for the record, I don’t even like your music; I think your band sucks. But I guess meeting you was not a waste because now I have arguments to convince Dustin to stop following your work. Good night.”
Steve heads out without looking back, leaving a bewildered Eddie Munson behind. He can buy his movie night snacks somewhere else, Steve decides as he drives off.
Three days later, Steve’s having breakfast when a delivery man shows up at his doorstep, claiming he’s got a delivery for him. Steve signs the form and accepts the package, a confused frown on his face as he closes the door and walks back to the kitchen.
Inside the box there are two tickets to the Corroded Coffin concert that’s about to happen next weekend in Indianapolis, two backstage passes, a lot of band merch and a card.
“Thanks for knocking some sense into me the other day, I think I needed that. Hopefully, you can let me make it up to you and Dustin.
Dustin’s face when Steve shows him the box is priceless; he has so many questions his brain takes a whole minute to catch up.
