Open Back - Part Two (Spencer Reid x Reader)
Word Count: 1.4K
Part One can be found here. Â
Spencer graciously accepted his award, and it filled your heart to see how proud he looked   of himself. You knew he struggled with self-confidence growing up, even though you couldnât fathom why; to you, he was perfect.
Spencer thanked his team individually, you knew they were like his family. He thanked his Godsons, and finally he thanked you. He thanked you for putting with him in your childhood. With a blush and a coy smile, he thanked you for letting him have âthe prettiest date hereâ. Morgan ruffled you hair as you held back the embarrassingly large grin that was creeping onto your face. Garcia punched him the arm for toughing up her masterpiece that was your hair.
Spencer finished his speech and stepped off the stage with his award in his hand. He was immediately swept up in handshakes and hugs from his fellow agents. You could see on his face that he was uncomfortable with all the touching and attention, but he accepted the congratulations with thanks. He kept looking over to you with an apologetic gaze, but you just offered an understanding smile in return.
Spencer was able to wiggle his way out of the gathering crowd and make his way over to you and the team. Each of his friends enveloped him in a giant bear hug, and this time he looked a lot more at ease. You waited at the side until he was free, and his team went into the hallway to give the two of you some privacy.
You walked over to Spencer and took the award from his hands. You placed it on the table behind you and turned back to him. You took his face into your hand and placed a chaste kiss on his lips. âI am so proud of you.â You whispered. You knew the hardships Spence had overcome to get where he was in his career. You only wished that you would have had the courage to follow him to DC all those years ago.
Spencer buried his face in the nook of your neck, just breathing in your scent. There was a comfortable silence between the two of you; Â you were both just grateful to be in each otherâs company. Growing up, you never left each otherâs sides after school. When he did he post grad at Cal Tech, you knew you had to follow him there. You werenât finished school by the time Spencer was accepted into the FBI, and you didnât want to hold him back. Although you hadnât ever technically dated, you both knew you had found your soulmate in each other.
A content hum from Spencer broke you out of travelling down memory lane. Spencer kissed your cheek, your forehead, and then your nose. He rested his forehead against yours. â I want to hear everything thatâs happened with you over the past 6 years,â he mumbled. He took your hand in his. âDid you want to go back to my place and catch up?â
You thought you saw his eyes get darker, but you quickly attributed that to wishful thinking. âWell, seeing as I am awful at planning ahead and I have nowhere to stay tonight, that would be great!â He smiled and grabbed the award from behind you. He cheekily used this an excuse to trail his hand down your bare back. You shivered, which did not go unnoticed by your profiler best friend.
âLooks like Iâm going home with two prizes tonight,â he whispered in your ear, then he nicked your earlobe between his teeth. You gasped, once again not knowing where this side of Spencer was coming from.
The cab ride back to Spencerâs apartment was silent. You rested your head on his shoulder, and he rubbed soothing circles on the back of your hand. You wanted to take this time to talk to him and catch up, but you were afraid that your shaky voice would give you away. It was unlike Spencer to make such blatant sexual advances. And as much as you wanted to rip off his suit in the back of the taxi, you knew your heart couldnât take a one night stand with this man. You wanted to spend every night with him for the rest of your life. Maybe it was for the best if this didnât happen.
When you arrived at Spencerâs apartment, you immediately felt at home. It was covered in books and mugs, much like his previous apartments had been. You took off your heels and turned to find Spencer awkwardly standing in the hallway. You could read Spencer like an open book. You could tell he was second guessing himself, trying to calculate in his brain what he should do or say next. You didnât want to make him uncomfortable and you had missed your conversations, so you took his hand and led him gently to his couch.
âLook, Y/N, I am so grateful youâre here, and kissing you at the gala was more euphoric that I could try to put into words, but Iâve been thinking about tomorrow when you have to leave and âŠâ You stopped his rambling with a peck. âItâs OK, Spence. I was thinking the same thing.â Relief washed over Spencerâs face.
You grabbed a blanket from behind the couch and layed it over the two of you. You nuzzled Spencer so his back was against the pillows and you cuddled up to his chest. He put an arm around you rested his cheek on top of your head. You talked for hours about this, that, and everything, filling each other in on every detail of your lives from the past 6 years.
Before you knew it, Spencer glanced at his watch and saw it was nearly 5 oâclock in the morning. âSpence, Iâm so sorry I kept you up so late! You probably have to work in the morning.â You got up from the couch and started looking for your purse. âActually, Emily gave us the day off. Iâm more worried about you catching your plane!â
âRemember when I told you I was awful at planning ahead? I actually didnât book a return flight.â You had hoped you and Spencer would hit it off again and you could spend a few extra days in the city. But you were nervous Spencer would be busy or uninterested, so you hadnât made any concrete plans. âIâm a contract worker now, so I havenât booked any jobs for the next few weeks.â
A glimmer of hope shone in Spencerâs eyes. âSo youâre not doing anything in the immediate future? I have over 7 weeks of holiday time built up. Maybe we could explore the city together?â
You walked over to him and wrapped your arms around his waist, laying your head against his chest. âI would like that very much, Dr. Spencer Reid.â You realized you were still wearing your evening gown and Spencer was still in his suit. âI left my suitcase at JJâs house. Can we swing by there before we paint the town red?â
Spencer looked down at you, contemplative, then down to the dress you were wearing, and held you a little tighter. He took a deep breath, and slowly undid the zipper that ran down your side, running his fingers against the bare skin at your waist. âHow about we get your extra clothes tomorrow?â

It was no surprise to anyone that Spencer loved museums. Even though he knew almost everything about every artifact in the Smithsonianâs expansive collection, he loved going back and soaking up the history. He especially loved to bring Henry to the museum; his godson loved learning new things, which made Spencerâs heart swell.
The BAU had a rare Saturday off, and Spencer had volunteered to bring Henry to the museum to give Will and JJ some time to spend with Michael. Henry took Spencerâs hand and dragged him through the entrance of the museum.
âUncle Spencer, câmon, youâre not moving fast enough!â Â Spencer chuckled at Henryâs enthusiasm. âI learned so much at school about NASA and I want to teach you about it!â Dr. Reid was so proud of his godsonâs thirst for knowledge, something he took partial credit for.
Henry all but sprinted to the Space Shuttle Discovery exhibit. Spencer did his best to shuffle quickly behind him, but he was somewhat against running museums. Henry couldnât contain his excitement; he started to weave through the crowds of tourists to get to the exhibit. Spencer began to run after his godson, trying not to lose sight of him. Henry looked back at Spencer to make sure he was still keeping up, when he ran smack into your legs.
âOh my goodness, are you OK, little man?â You kneeled down to be at his eyelevel, to make sure he hadn't injured himself. âI think Iâm OK. Sorry for hitting you,â he mumbled, looking more embarrassed than hurt. âHenry, are you alright?â Spencer scooped Henry up into his arms, inspecting his face for bumps and bruises.
He was so preoccupied with making sure Henry was unscathed that he hadnât noticed you undressing him with your eyes. When he was certain that Henry wasnât broken, his eyes met yours. You gave him a coy smile, which caused him to visibly gulp.
âI know the museum is an exciting place, pumpkin, but itâs a lot safer here to walk, rather than to run!â You reassured the youngster, not wanting to ruin his museum experience. You had been working here for over 5 years, and there was nothing more satisfying than seeing a child look up from their iPad and see how wondrous the museum could be.
âI am very sorry,â he replied. He turned his head and noticed his âUncle Spenceâ ogling over you. Henry waved his hand in front of his babysitter to get his attention. Spencer snapped out of his stupor apologetically. âErm, sorry, what were you saying, Henry?â
âUncle Spencer, you were staring at that pretty lady!â Spencer blushed, silently cursing his godson for being so observant. âI, uh, sorry.â Dr. Reid was able to get out before his nerves got the best of him. You stifled a laugh; his discomfort was endearing. âIt is quite alright. My name is Y/N and Iâm a curator here, how about I give you two gentlemen a private tour, to make up for the fact I hit your face with my knee, MrâŠ?â
âHenry, my nameâs Henry!â he squealed. âAnd this is my Uncle Spencer! Heâs kind of a doctor. And I think he likes you.â Henry beamed, obviously proud of his revelation. Spencer looked mortified. Henry hopped down from Spencerâs arms and took your hand. âCan we go to the space exhibit first?â
âWe certainly can Mr. Henry.â You led him down the hall, but Spencer was rooted in place. You yelled back, Â âCome on, Spencer! Donât you want to go on an adventure?â You winked at him. He quickly caught up to the two of you, looking sheepish.
âUncle Spencer, can we invite Y/N to come to dinner with us after this?â Henry asked with puppy dog eyes. He then tried his best to wink at Spencer, but it just turned out like a spastic blink. Spencer turned an even deeper shade of red. âI, uh, sure. If she wants to.â
âI would love to,â you replied. Spencer smiled at you, finally relaxing a bit. With Henry holding both your hands, the three of you set off to discover the museum. And hopefully that wouldnât be the only discovery of the evening.
Can someone put a wet floor sign up?
