In keeping with the Lenten season, the prosecution and defense panels declared an “impeachment ceasefire.” Welcoming the respite from the daily trial grind, members of the 2 camps said the Holy Week break would allow them to rest, study, and focus on other matters. Their reflection, though, still seems to be impeachment-inspired. Lawyers and spokespersons now argue their case complete with references to the Stations of the Cross, and the 7 Last Words.
A study in hypocrisy, when those who are accusing him of violating this provision are violators themselves.
A group of bloggers requested a personal interview with the Chief Justice to get to know him and to ask some questions others have been wondering about.
The latest survey of Pulse Asia on how the average Filipino feels about the innocence or guilt of the Chief Justice has caused controversy.
Sheer coincidence or serendipity on a Sunday? The Executive, Senate and House of Representatives sounded separate calls that made Sunday a day of threats.
From the very beginning, Corona wanted to work with Aquino but was repeatedly rebuffed by the new, self-righteous occupant of Malacañang. The story of the aborted creation of Aquino pet anti-graft body, the so-called Truth Commission, according to Corona, is proof of this.
As the biggest court, with 23 members, and a unique and impromptu one yet, having been transformed suddenly from something a world apart from what it’s been, it may be allowed some excuse. On the other hand, enlisted for an urgent and all-important national purpose, it cannot dally in indecision and take its time working itself out, like, as its president is not seldom heard to say, “a work in progress.”
Apparently, Bong Naguiat benefited from the Okada deal in far greater ways than we thought. Wonder if he included all the assets he gained via "industry practice".
When the Impeachment Trial started we were faced with 8 articles against the Chief Justice that had no legal leg to stand on. That 188 Congressmen from the House of Representative forwarded the complaint to the Senate in record time was appalling. As the hearings progressed, it became obvious that the basic evidence was culled from spurious sources that even now is shouting loud to be addressed so as to keep the confidentiality of everyone’s records sacrosanct.
Sendong came as President Benigno Aquino, who is trying to attract investors to the country, struggled with other troubles at home: in late October, rumours of an army plot to overthrown him surfaced, even as he wrestles with violent Muslim rebels and a worsening security situation.
An evaluation of the INC Bible Exposition and its implications for PNoy and CJ Corona. This article also tackles the "explosive" events of Day 26, which has been the most dramatic yet so far.
Cong. Tupas claims he doesn't remember Annabelle Tiongson because the wedding was 15 years ago. Tell me this-will you be asked to be part of a wedding entourage if you weren't close with the couple's family? And is 15 years that far off to forget?
Day 26 of the Impeachment Trial was one of the most dramatic so far with Sen. Miriam's ceaseless tirade against the Prosecution Team and the reaction of Private Prosec. Lawyer Vitaliano Aguirre by covering his ears. Much has been said about their actions but I firmly believe that the senator, by virtue of her position & stature, should have been the better person. This article contains the rules of disqualification for judges. I intend to review it to gauge if her actions falls within these parameters.
This is a good example of how NOT to behave in court or anywhere. Regardless of both sides' justifications, I will stand by the following code of conduct: 1) If I want to point out someone's errors, I will do so without demeaning anyone; 2) If I have anything against someone, I will keep quiet first and wait for the proper moment to express it but in a respectful manner.
To prove the world is watching, this is an article from New York Times.
Among all the articles of the impeachment case against CJ Renato Corona, Article 2 has created the biggest dent for him. As the prosecution is about to submit their formal offer of evidence, their is still the matter of how the bank docs of the CJ were obtained. If this is indeed illegal, there is a chance it might not be accepted, which means the CJ can breathe deeper. But should the senator-judges accept it, the defense team have their work cut out for them.
