The Hunt has to be the Oldest of the fears, right.
I mean, I'm certain The End was birthed the moment it took it's first victim.
I imagine The Dark would then follow, once we developed sight.
The Corruption and The Desolation are actually ones I can't well place.
For The Corruption, It all started here, but we did not fear it then. But, even It adapts, even It fears. It learned that Toxins and Rotten Flesh aren't always a friendly thing
For The Desolation, would it have been the moment we developed pain receptor?
The Buried and The Vast are the next two I think. Twin birth, dropping prey is a common tactic among birds of prey. And getting crushed by beasts beyond you size. Plus the earth still shifts, things get buried.
The Stranger is my next best guess. A healthy amount of distrust of the unknown is good for survival. Some plants are poisonous after all. And the pale faces of your kin is enough to deter most.
How soon before that Fear of The Stranger leads to violence, The Sluaghter still understands commands and vengeance.
And once we learn to ostracize others from The Tribe, The Lonely was born.
Them follows the more, "intellectual" fears. From self-consciousness is born a sudden awful awareness, doesn't it.
But I think The Eye and The Web are also a twin birth. For understanding and knowing means you know who to... manipulate. The Eye is lazy after all but it knows your secrets, and The Web knows who to get other to do was it wants. It's a perfect duo.
This often leads to lies, doesn't it. The Spiral isn't that much younger.
The Flesh, as we know, is the youngest. Cattle was raised and we ate, sure. But there is a trust to raising your own food, and appreciation for it. We thanked more then. Then we industrialized it... The we industrialized eachother... bought and sold as goods, commodities, meat.
The Eye has to be playing midwife to the birth of The Extinction. We've learned, we know. Even if some deny, to afraid to see.
