Look I absolutely do not mind people that are vegan or vegetarian, usually.
But the gate-keeping is unreal to absolutely hilarious. Someone posts about their journey of trying to live sustainably and how they're not 100% vegan because of that.
Cue the vegan-warrior going "vegan means you don't abuse any animals at all- you can eat plant-based part time but you can't be vegan part time, it's a lifestyle"
Like so... If I keep chickens in my backyard, give them ample amount of space, food, entertainment and make sure they're healthy and taken care of... And eat their eggs... I'm still vegan???? Cuz I'm not abusing them. Legit, if you wanna talk about murdering animals or forcing them to do something they don't want to do, I get that that's cruelty.
But literally picking up the eggs they drop all over the place and give zero fucks about the second they're popped out? How's that abusing them??
Some people act like humans aren't a part of the ecosystem and it shows - we're just as much an animal as any other one. We need to eat certain things to live and yeah, animal products do contain nutrients we need. That doesn't mean by eating those things you are inherently bad or cruel, or that a vegan person is inherently better than you, it's a choice to make and as long as you make the most sustainable choices you can afford to, why should anyone hate on you for that?
Like that person was honestly just doing their best to live sustainably, which is commendable really, and did not deserve some self righteous "oh I found it so easy to become vegan" bs thrown at them.
Because ngl, a plastic bag filled with avocado's that need gallons of water to grow, are being farmed by people that get barely paid a tenth of our hourly wage in a day, to then get shipped across the world which pollutes our air - not really the most morally sound alternative if you ask me. So I feel it'd be nice for everyone, no matter what diet they're choosing to follow, to try and understand that every single thing we consume comes at a price and no dietary option is inherently "morally good" if you're not careful.
You can eat animal products in a sustainable and morally good way, and you can eat vegan food that is absolutely unsustainably sourced and horrible for the environment and ecosystem - it's all dependent on what you choose to buy.
