What I love most about this song is that it sounds like it should have come out in the 50s. It didn’t, but that shouldn't stop you from shaking your hips to this new classic. Grab a slow dance partner and pretend you lived in simpler times.

I’m fashionably late to the David Bowie tribute party, but at least I showed up. David Bowie was a strange and amazing character whose music will undoubtedly live on in the Rock and Roll history books forever. While his death seemed pretty sudden to the public, it seems he left some bread crumb clues for the world to figure it out on their own. His last music video for the song “Lazarus” (you can see the video here) is an eerie glimpse into perhaps Bowie’s farewell to the world. If not, it’s a pretty strange coincidence. Bowie continued putting out new music up until a few weeks ago, but I wanted to post about a classic and my favorite Bowie song, “Rebel Rebel.” This is Rock and Roll.

That's the idea behind The New Basement Tapes, a collaboration of various musicians who took abandoned Bob Dylan lyrics and brought them to life. We've seen all kinds of "super groups" over the years, but none of them were armed with a collection of Dylan lyrics to build their sound around. Showtime documented the process of Elvis Costello and Co. as they worked and reworked the songs to create a truly unique album.

I'm calling it now. Pell will blow up this year. I can't promise I won't follow this up with a "told you so" post. His slightly spacey production combined with his slick rapping make for a great new edition to your daily music intake. Earlier this year the 21 year old New Orleans rapper debuted his album, Floating While Dreaming (iTunes download here) and you owe it to yourself to give it a listen or ten.

Song: "Morning"
Beck has been putting out solid music since 1994, but most people only know him for his massively popular single "Loser" in the 90s. His newest album, Morning Phase, features Beck stripped down to acoustic guitars, mellow piano and spacey vocals. Beck's not going to find himself on the top of the charts with this album, but maybe that's exactly what Beck wants. Refresh your playlist.

James Vincent McMorrow isn't exactly new, but lately his album, Early In The Morning (available on iTunes here), is starting to gain some recognition around the music world. The Irish singer-songwriter performed and recorded his entire first album in a house all by his lonesome and he is currently finishing his second LP. Think Bon Iver with a folky/country twang.

Everyone's favorite electronic French duo is back at it. With a little help from Nile Rodgers and Pharrell "King Midas" Williams, Daft Punk's new album, Random Access Memories (available on iTunes here) is already the fastest selling album of 2013. Not bad for a couple of Parisians who wear robot helmets.

At first I was a bit hesitant to give a listen to someone who sounds like their name belongs in a Harry Potter film, but, I am glad I overcame my ignorance and pressed play. I must have missed it last year when Michigan musician Ben Schneider released his buzz worthy single "The Stranger" to hungry fans wanting more. Better late than never I guess. Well, the wait is over, and Lord Huron has a new album, Lonesome Dreams. You can stream it on NPR here or buy it on iTunes here.
