Successfully defended my dissertation yesterday. I'm Dr. TheCuntDracula now.

I went out for a light dinner and drinks by myself tonight since I have the place to myself for a few days. I had a drink and then ended up chatting with two women next to me over my second drink. Cool, cool. So I order a third drink thinking I'm going to be chatting some more but then one of their friends happens to come on by and the three of them just start talking. Okay, that's fine. I'm just a third (fourth) wheeling stranger. But I wish that happened before I ordered my third drink because A) I didn't intend on drinking that much and B) I ended up spending more than I wanted. If I knew I was going to have a third drink I'd have gotten a cheaper dinner.

It wasn't a bad night out by any means and I'm happy I got to chat with some people but, yeah, wish I saved myself a few bucks.

Job hunting is sort of soul crushing. It is most of the time, but because I'm looking for pretty niche positions (where there's barely any to begin with) and I'm fairly region-locked there just isn't much at the best of times. And we are not in the best of times. I had a Zoom first-round interview but since I haven't got anything back I assume I won't be moving up to the next round.

Honestly, what sucks worse is that at this point I've applied to the jobs that I'm actually excited about and am now just putting things out there for jobs that are either A) not ideal, or B) low quality. There's a lot of B. I'm afraid even if I get a job it's going to be bottom of the barrel and make me miserable.
