Durge: What was Enver Gortash to you?
Raphael's corpse: A pawn… a path to the Crown… a means to bring a devil's dawn… and let my powers abound.
Durge: Even in death with the rhyming?!
Durge and Gortash are made for each other...
Gortash is ambition in a gilded cage.
Durge is violence with a soul clawing its way back.
And neither of them was ever supposed to feel anything real.
But then they do.
They come from the same abyss raised to be monsters, manipulated into roles they didn’t choose.
Durge was Bhaal’s favourite blade. Gortash was Bane’s polished pawn.
They know what it means to be used, to survive it, to make power out of pain.
That’s what makes them understand each other without words.
No one else really sees what they are underneath the blood and lies but they see each other.
Not as weapons. Not as leaders. As survivors. As people.
Pre-Tadpole Durge: "This is going great. I have this wicked cool crown controlling a superpowerful creature of raw hatred who will now do what I command. My awesome boyfriend is going to take over the city, I'll earn my father's affection, and I'll get to kill so many people which I love to do, it's my favorite thing ever. Literally nothing can go wrong."
The nefarious Orin the Red:
On a post about Gortash's burly mod
one of these days I'll figure out how to be a person. any day now
@weavewithshadow fucking destroyed me by suggesting that maybe Gortash and the Dark Urge had an argument before they died and disappeared.
And Orin, pretending to be Gortash, asked them to meet him under the guise of maybe apologizing.
But then she killed them.
And Gortash didn't notice initially because they hadn't spoken in a while. But when he did notice, he started to get worried.
And then he knew that he'd fucked up, when they never came back.
And their stupid argument haunts his thoughts every night, and he wishes he could take it back. But he can't apologize to them, and probably never will...
Until he sees them again...and now...he still can't apologize. Because they can't even remember him.
He'll never get to say he was sorry, so instead he just tells them, let's start over.
Let's be allies again. I'm sorry that I didn't go looking for you, but it won't happen again, not this time.
Give me another chance.
We can start again.
we're still gonna be talking about durgetash ten years from now, aren't we?
"You are the sum of my cruelty and your ambition. A perfect failure masquerading as a king."
little tyrant
Gortash would see durge's redemption as some form of betrayal.
Claiming durge has changed.
Would reminisce on the old durge.
Believing durge abandoned what durge was meant to become.
Would wonder why durge would trade all that for weakness.
But there's something about durge's defiance.
Something gortash is drawn to.
Durge has rebelled against bhaal.
Theres some admiration there.
He may even respect durge even more that before.
Durge has a backbone. Refuses to bow. That's hot
Even redeemed, durge stills sees the real gortash. Not many have the luxury to see.
Durge's newfound generosity may irritate him and fascinate him all at once.
He can't help but to feel more drawn. Its almost dangerous.
Why is this baddie suddenly a goodie?
But he can't help it.
What he feels for durge may be the the closest thing to love. None could compare.
His only equal.
Nor would he find another. And he knows that.
In conclusion, good durge, evil durge, it's all the same to him.
My personal opinion:
Gortash would change for durge or because of durge.
Post game.
After resurrection.
Durge knows gortash just as much as gortash knows durge.
Durge chose redemption.
So that seems possible to gortash too.
That is not to say that it'll be easy to achieve
There would most definitely be setbacks:
And durge wouldn't be so easily convinced.
1. He'd have to prove that it's not just some empty promises.
2. He'd start by being truthful to himself and to everyone, even if it's hard to digest. No lies or manipulation.
3. He'd would learn to apologise.
4. He'd stop having the need to be a control freak. Realise that there are things that he can't control.
5. He'd face those who he wronged.
6. He'd admit fear.
7. He Wouldn't demand forgiveness.
8. He'd Realise that there's more to life than just attaining power. Especially for the wrong reasons.
9. Realises That having people who genuinely care about him is all the he needs right now.
At first he'd be hesitant to express vulnerability, but over time, he'd embrace it.
10. He'd prove to durge that he can turn his life around and not just say he can.
Gortash redemption arc:
The moment of realisation that he was only a tool not a person for bane.
All because he was promised power from a god he believed in.
Is the title worth living for or is his soul worth saving for?
Loyalty is moot when the whole city turned against you.
No one likes him
No one trusts him.
The truth is too bitter to swallow.
And in doing so he became so unlovable.
But now he must decide.
Gortash to Durge: I’m the only one who'll lovе your sins
I think it would be cool if Durge and Orin had similar smiles, and that Gortash both loves and hates it.
Gortash feeling a chill run down his spine the first time Durge grins at him, all sharp teeth and crazed eyes. It difficult not to feel like prey when on the receiving end of such a look. But with time, and with trust, Gortash grows to find such a wicked grin simply endearing instead. He misses it when Durge disappears.
Then Orin, now Bhaal’s Chosen, grins all toothy and wild eyed, and Gortash’s heart just drops. He hates that such a grin reminds him of his dear friend, and that the only way he could ever see something like it is on her face of all people. Even though it’s difficult, he does not outwardly react whenever Orin will giggle and smile, but inside he feels horribly bitter.
He hates that it’s on her face, but he has no other way to look at a grin he so fondly remembers. So in his more masochistic of moments, maybe he will allow himself to properly look at Orin as she is horribly teasing Ketheric, just to remember Durge.
If gortash had a goatee would it be called 'gortee'?
Gortash enjoyers how are we doing
