im begging the zutara fandom to ship with no regrets; i see so many posts by zutara shippers being like "i respect the canon but" or "the live action will probably follow the canon and that's okay but" and its like fuck the canon. lol zutara is better than the canon. ship that shit proudly. this fandom didn't last two decades because us og shippers cared about what bryke thought lol

Nothing nothing it's just the unintentional parallel between A.ang telling Katara he understands her pain and anger for her mother's murderer because his pet/car got stolen once and then years later yelling at her that she doesn't understand what it's like being the last of her people (when she definitely does).
The unintentional parallel of young, teenage villain Zuko talking a bunch of shit about how the safety of his crew doesn't matter but doing the right thing when the time comes and putting the safety of the crew above his goals and years later A.ang as a grown ass man and alleged hero of the story selfishly putting his goals above everyone else's lives and getting them all killed for it.
The unintentional parallel of Zuko selflessly giving his life for Katara and Katara healing him and then years later A.ang's selfishness getting everyone killed but it's okay cause he's got the Katara ex Machina magic healing water plot armor to save him and everyone else from the consequences of his selfish choices. How Katara saved herself, him, and everyone else after he put them all in harms way, while over a decade prior she was saved by Zuko who was acting selflessly, facing his sister alone to prevent Katara from being hurt, and then she saved him after he sacrificed himself.
Zuko protects Katara by facing Azula alone -> Zuko nearly DIES for Katara, sacrificing his own life and the success of their mission so that she can live -> Katara protects Zuko, defeats Azula, and repays his sacrifice by saving his life
Push, pull.
A.ang puts Katara and everyone else in danger by trusting a complete stranger -> A.ang gets everyone including Katara killed by putting his own goals over the lives of his friends -> A.ang gets HIMSELF killed -> it's okay bc Katara resurrects herself and everyone else, repays him for putting them all in danger and getting them all killed by bringing him back to life and no one is even a little bit mad about it.
Push, push, push, push. Take and take and take. No reciprocity.
If they wanted to make the canon ship appeal to more people they could've shown A.ang doing anything anywhere near as selfless and sacrificial and romantic as Zuko choosing Katara's life over his own during the Agni Kai but instead they have him get killed not through sacrifice but through selfishness and then have his government-assigned mommy-gf thanklessly clean up his mess for him, again.

We all clearly saw those really obnoxious jabs directed at us Zutariansāand the fact that Zuko and Katara donāt share a single line or moment alone together feels very obvious and deliberateā¦ and honestly, in pretty bad taste.
āDelusional,ā you say? Good. I was paying attention. Iāve seen their chemistry!
Because are we seriously supposed to just PRETEND the profound bond they established in the og ATLA never existed!? Likeāyou know, the bond they forged through forgiveness, respect, and mutual understanding, as they fought side by side and saved each other in every way two people can possibly save each other?!? LIKE????!!! WHAT?!?(Meanwhile, Iām told Zukka shippers got plenty of moments, so noāIām not imagining things here).
And yeah, Iām not saying anything new hereāweāve all noticed it. But you know what, guys? I get it.
I understand why Bryke might be eternally salty about us, because imagine accidentally writing one of the most compelling, layered love dynamics in your own storyā¦ and then watching it completely outshine your intended canon ship.
Likeāimagine that happening to you.
Weāre talking about a dynamic so powerful that even the voice actors saw it. In Dante Bascoās case, he even went as far as publicly stating that Zuko had a huge crush on KataraāAND YET, EVEN THEN! You still refuse to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, your own story developed that relationship more than the intended canon one. So now, youāve gotta double down.
Because that same āloathsomeā ship you seem to hate so much goes on to become one of the biggest, most enduring ships in fandom historyā¦ so instead, you make it your lifeās mission to mock itāconstantly trying to reinforce your canon ship so thereās āno doubtā about your approved endgameāwhile openly calling Zutarians delusional for seeing something that genuinely made more sense than your āVirgin Mary-saves-and-raises-a-saviorā dynamic of a ship (at least up until Avatar: The Last Airbender 2005).
So noāIām not surprised we were denied even the smallest of crumbs in this movie (and to some extent, itās understandableāit is Aangās story, and I do love Aang individually). But these fools act as if we havenāt been a numerous, present, valid part of the fandom for decadesā¦ so why the unnecessary mockery?
Thatās the part Iāll never understand. It just feels very disrespectful and overdone.
But honestly? This is nothing new to us. Weāve been here before. SoāWHO CARES?!
Iāll be over here, enjoying all the absolutely delicious fanart and fanfics about to flood our feedsāand I will say one good thing about the small scenes Iāve seen floating around (I refuse to watch the film piratedāanimators and artists deserve our gratitude, respect, and support first!): Iām genuinely happy we at least get to see Katara being treated like a queen by her partner as she so rightfully deserves.
And hey, theyāre older nowāAang doesnāt look 10 anymore, and they all look SO FOIIIINE, guys. SOOOO FOIIINEEEEEEE!!!
So letās just enjoy this as much as possible and, as we've always done, ignore Bryke and canon.
