The Dark Paragon: Where Are They Now?
“Hey guys”...
I was going to start this piece off like that. But then it occurred to me, who were we even addressing? Did people read this? Did y’all care what we called you, anyway? Regardless, it was the generic intro to any post that wasn’t press-work.
We’ve always made jokes about coming back and doing things, whether it be a pop-up show, or a random post. We even took a drive to Studio Luloo one Friday night just to stand outside and take a selfie. This is about a year later. So I guess it’s the time to recap. Where is everyone who was so heavily involved in the Dark Paragon? Where did we go? What is even going on?
Erika: Erika got a dog. His name is Cooper, and he’s really sweet. Like Erika, he’s also a vegan. Erika only listens to this one really long Spotify playlist she made, which consists mainly of throwback jams, classical, and some Mexican music. She doesn’t have very fond memories of working in the music scene. Erika works at whole foods and tries to get people to be a vegan. She transfers to her dream school, Ohio State next fall. She’ll probably recount memories of this blog in therapy years later.
Chris: Still at it. Actually going on tour this summer with What We Lack, which was highly inactive for seven months. I guess the week-long tour is just getting back on the horse of working in booking and music promotion. Chris sold out and is working to do photos for bigger record labels on her own, or just writing for other various blogs that cover a broader spectrum, instead of just the local music scene. She moves to Germantown next year, so that’s cool.
Half the bands we worked with either fell off, broke up, or underwent some musical or lineup change.
Is Risk still a band? Were they ever actually a band? Water Polo is still out there, but they aren’t playing as many shows, probably because we aren’t around to book them once a month. Breaking Tradition is a band, still, too, but they are changing members around. Centerpiece broke up. Eunoia broke up. BGL is giving something a flip I think. WSIS fell off after Chris flamed them for not playing a show. I’ll probably never forgive Aaron Jay for standing us up on our first show ever.
I guess just like in the farewell post, you know, that excruciatingly long goodbye, this wasn’t such a bad thing. We put a lot of hard work into it. It never was fully appreciated, but not many people fully appreciate anything of value or worth while it’s still alive. The Dark Paragon will probably be some hipster cult when we go. I loved TDP. I loved it with all of my heart. I really put my back into it, ya know? It was like a child to me, and I’ll never forget it. It still tastes bittersweet in my mouth, but after all this, things came together. And it’s all okay. And we are on good terms, unlike a year ago when all of this came crashing down.
Erika and I talked about doing this, and I never fully intended on writing it. Nor will she know until I link her to it. (Hi chips, sorry)
