"How on earth is it that on our second day back iâve already got a workload the size of Vesuvius?â
"Ughhh, don't remind me. I've been trying to stay away from my homework. It's going to be a rough weekend..."
"I think the headmaster is nicer to you than me." Lily chuckled. She stared up at her creation for a while longer. "I actually looked up a spell and did it. Thatâs not just paint.. itâs magic." She sighed. "I didnât think the castle would let me do it originally, afterall it has a mind of itâs own, but sure enough."
"Nonsense. We're a two for one deal." Alice winked as she focused her attention back onto the castle. "Uh...there has to be an undo spell, right? I mean... Lils, what sort of spell did you use?"
What?
I wasnât staring.
"Oh, come on. You know nothing can get past my sharp eyes. How have you been?"
Lily continued to stare at the graffiti. âWell, if the headmaster doesnât kill me⌠weâll still do nothing with me because Iâll be in detention until Iâm dead.â She said, and turned to face Alice with a tormented look on her face. âYou donât think theyâll tell mum, dâyou?â
"I think headmaster will find this laughable..." Alice held back a giggle and wrapped an arm around Lily. "Well, I will visit you as often as I can if you do get detention for life. And we'll come up with a plan to bust you out." Tapping her chin, Alice glanced back at the graffiti. "If we can clean this up soon, maybe nobody will notice. What did you use to do that anyways? It's impressive."
Can you hand me a towel?
"Bloody hell, Frank. Are you trying to ruin my eyesight?" Alice grimaced at her brother and chucked a towel in his direction. "Now I have to go look at photos of puppies for two hours to un-scar my mind..."
He laughed as she practically dragged him to the kitchens. âCalm down, Alice!â
"I will be calm when apple cider is in a cup in my hands." She nodded, continuing her brisk pace. "Oh, I bet by now you'd like a cup for yourself, huh?"
"But thatâs going to get you in trouble." She said rolling her eyes and almost singing that last word.
"You're enjoying this, aren't you, Grace?" Alice glanced down at her feet and shrugged. "Well, I'm in trouble anyways. I would hope by now my professors know I'm not the student Augusta is....even if we're related."
Lily continued to gape at the tower, but paused long enough to smack Alice on the shoulder. âShut up! I was thinking that this would be really cool!â
Alice couldn't help herself from giggling uncontrollably as she clutched her stomach from laughter. "Oh, don't get me wrong, Lil. This is cool." She gasped in between her laughs before trying to calm down. "Whatever shall we do with you, Lilypad?"
Jacob chuckled. âYes, Alice, Iâm fine. Seriously, donât worry about it.â He took his hand off his head to show her. âSee, no blood.â
Alice stood up on her tiptoes to glance at his head, sighing in relief. "Thank goodness. I am terribly sorry." She put her hands up slightly and chuckled. "No more playing with throw-able objects for me."
Kale feigned an impressed look, âWow. That sounds like familiar. You know what that is? Itâs called vengeance, Longbottom. Seems like we do have something in common after all. Knew you had it in you.â He clicked his tongue in approval.
Kaleâs eyes flashed dangerously. âRight. And itâs something you donât have to worry about either because I get whatever I want. Might take a bit of effort but hey, shouldnât be too hard.â
Alice shook her head as she scowled. "No. I am nothing like you." She crossed her arms, refusing to believe she was anything like the boy in front of her. Pressing the idea to the back of her mind, she couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Of course. Kale Lestrange always gets what he wants. How surprising."
Grace narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms. âWell, you could always be a good little Gryffindor and apologize for being late, beg for the professor to let you attend the class. Iâm sure itâll work.â
"I think that only works for my sister, Augusta. I'm not one of the favorites of any of my professors and I would rather avoid having to talk to them for any reason whatsoever." Alice scrunched her nose slightly. "I'd much rather skip the class altogether."
Lily made a grimace to her best friend as she approached. âWell, I didnât not do it.â She looked up at the garrish graffiti again. âFuck. I thought it would be gone by now.â
Alice couldn't help but chuckle slightly at her best friend's mischief. "Lily, Lily, Lily. I can't believe you defaced the astronomy tower... What were you thinking, Lil?"
âIâm okay,â she grumbled, waving her wand to clean up the mess sheâd made. âI knocked one of the ingredients in by accident and now my potionâs ruined.â She glanced back at the girl, âI didnât get any on you, did I? Thereâs no telling what disastrous results might come from this mix.â
Alice sighed in relief after hearing nobody was hurt. Glancing around herself and patting down her arms, she shook her head. "I don't think anything landed on me, thankfully. If you don't mind me asking, what spell were you working on?"
Jacob rubbed his head. âHey, donât worry about it. I wasnât paying attention anyway.â
"I swear, I have the worst aim. Are you sure you're alright? There's no blood, is there? Bloody hell, I am such a bad aim."
"Well if you want to go get it you better hurry, because the class startsâŚ" She sighed and looked at an imaginary wristwatch. "About five minutes ago."
"Thanks for the head's up. Too bad they don't hand time-turners out to everybody..." Alice sighed and shrugged her shoulders. "Well, too late to head in now..."
"How very irresponsible of you, Longbottom. Havenât your parents ever taught you the concept of payback?â He snickered, pointing his wand at her.Â
Kale slid the book back to her, âYouâre right. I donât. What I do care is why you bother studying at all.â
"Did Kale Lestrange just call me irresponsible? Oh, that's funny. I don't think you have the right to accuse others of being irresponsible... And no, my parents taught me the concept of treating others the way you want to be treated. With all you've teased me about, I would say that if your wand did break, that would be justifiable."
Grabbing her book back and placing her hand over it defensively, Alice chuckled. "Because I want a decent occupation after graduating, that's why. Something you don't seem to worry about."
Roan shook his head for a moment before sighing in defeat, âAlright, alright. Youâre coming with me to the kitchens though. Iâm not your slave.â
Alice threw her hands up in defeat. "Fair enough." She clapped her hands in happiness. "I have been dying for some apple cider, let's go!" Without waiting for a response, she grabbed his arm and briskly started walking towards the kitchen.
