Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?

I went—not overseas, but by public transport—to Corpus to hear Tamsyn Muir speak.

The bad news: Alecto is not finished. It will hopefully come out "soon" and will likely be fast tracked with few ARCs when it's finished.

The news you may take differently depending on your preferences: It is not being split.

The good news: It is not all written in Ye Olde Alecto speak (it sounds like Harrow's POV will be fairly major, but there will apparently be several narrators).

And in some way he has fucked it up beyond comprehension" (Maybe not an exact quote. My auditory processing is questionable.)

Lyctors "are not truly human any more. They've crystallised themselves" and "They have lost themselves and the only thing they've been able to hold on to is what other people make of them". She said she would have liked to make the Lyctors more alien but had to balance that with them being relatable narratively.

Also I am asking all of you, once again, to learn about ecosystem conservation and restoration instead of wallowing in "we are already past the point of no return" or that it will take "millennia" to restore ecosystems.

You have to understand that nature does not work in the same timeframe as ours. Protecting and restoring ecosystems is RIDICULOUSLY inexpensive and requires very little industrial technology; shovels and saplings are not exactly high-tech. But it takes time and long-term projects with people determined to do it. Maybe we are too focused in our "we want it now" thinking, but what you see today is not what you may see in 10, 20, 50, even 80 years if you live that long.

But it works. It's working right now, and when capitalism is replaced by socialism and we stop thinking on short-term gain, when our societies are focused into the common welfare instead of accumulation, it will even work better. Again I could point out to individual examples but instead, I encourage you to learn about ecology. We are well past from the catastrophic "Earth will die and there's nothing we can do" predictions from the 80s. We know what to do, we know it can work.

I want you to KNOW how doable this is. How inexpensive this is, how POSSIBLE THIS IS. That people working and loving the land and nature they live in is possible. That these projects WORK, THEY DO restore and preserve ecosystems. That humanity is neither a plague that destroys everything or a passive bystander on its own destruction but that these are actual things that can be, are, and will be implemented, backed by actual science and results. This is not empty #hopecore #hopepunk feel good stuff, these are things you can learn about, even work towards, and you can most certainly demand they are part of our society.

If you see ICE, say something. Make noise and let others around you aware of their presence. Report them to local organizations, on tracking apps, and to the police if need be.

You do NOT have to let ICE into your private property without a signed Judicial warrant. ICE warrants are different and don’t give them the legal authority to enter your property.

Record their presence and operations.

In case of witnessing a detention, ask the detainee their name, you could be the only evidence someone has gone missing.

Miranda rights still apply, anything said can be used against you in immigration court. You have a right to remain silent.

Do not agree to sign anything without talking to an attorney.

Have emergency contacts memorized.

If you have a child or dependents, make emergency arrangements for their care in case of separation. Make sure to have authorization in writing to the emergency contact for medical and legal decisions of your child/dependents.

ICE has been violating the law, they act as though they are above the law, and haven’t been held accountable for the majority of crimes committed. The only chance of holding them accountable is if there is evidence, record them when possible. Your safety is important though, remember they are violent and are looking for ways to enact state sanctioned violence.

Times like these I remember that Malcolm X quote about healing and how it requires acknowledging the knife is there. Things like "this isn't who we are" and "this is un-American" and "what are we? [insert another country]??" reveal a deep seated denial of American history and state-sponsored domestic terror that I'm just not gonna entertain anymore from leftists over the age of twenty.
