Toni Morrison, Song of Solomon
wendyslinkhards:
What do you mean by that? Did not you like her? I mean, do you think I need to change something about her? I have been researching a lot about psychopathy in order to develop her… but I do not think it is working.
I do like her. But doesn’t she seem a bit stereotypical to you?
She is meant to be a twist in your story. You should add a twist to herself as well. After all, the greatest thing about a psycopath is that she or he hides in plain sight, masquerading day and night, all the while plotting the whole thing. But psycopaths are people, in the end. Very broken people, usually. And you don’t want your reader knowing from day 1 she is the one. Things like “The murder of Roger Ackroyd” is what keeps people turning pages. You should not be as obvious as Agatha Christie, though, because a lot of people get it at first.
wendyslinkhards:
You definitely have a very funny view of yourself and this is my polite way to tell you that you have a negative view of yourself. Serious, Doc, you are a nice lad, although you are a bit rude sometimes.
So today we are not going to talk about your day and now I just realized we never talk about you and your days at the auror office… this is as mysterious as a hunted house. By the way, did you read the draftsI gave you?
You have some keen observation powers yourself, don’t you, Wendy?
I mean... in your writing. It is intelligent, intriguing and thought provoking. And your characters seem quite fleshed out. Although... Don’t you think you are writing your antagonist far too inside the archetype?
wendyslinkhards:
Oh, please. Don’t apologise for it. I did not have to wait that long and, if you wanna know, It was a well spent time to develop Cara’s personality.
I mean, I know she is you… but you are kind of a misterious guy and I always think you’re hiding something. Anyway. How was you day at the office? Please don’t tell me you spent all day with paperwork and stuff like that.
Glad to hear so.
Well, technically, Cara is not me. She is a character, your character, and I hope you make her a lot more interesting than I am. Otherwise, I am afraid not a lot of people will become rather fond of her. Second, I am not mysterious, Wendy. A haunted house is mysterious. I am private, introspective if you may, and a bit boring. I am just not very into sharing everything that regards me. Third, if you do not want to know about the paperwork, I am sorry to say you are not hearing anything about my day in the office, given it involves meters and meters of scrolls and angry aurors.
Wendy! I am so sorry for being late. I got, uh... a little tangled up down at the office and I could not make it here on time. I hope I did not make you wait for very long.
wendyslinkhards:
Bartleby?
Elementar, minha cara Wendy.
Apenas sustente a fantasia, tudo bem?
wendyslinkhards:
You really do not know me, Mr. Dearborn. Se quiser, posso te colocar no camarote do nosso próximo show.
No, just kidding. We are not a punk rock band.
Aw, bummer. I was starting to get excited about the possibility of actually attenting to a punk rock concert... Better luck next time.
wendyslinkhards:
I am sorry but rules are rules.
I think it’s a reasonable reason and my boss will understand this situation. But did you like it?
Agradeço a compreensão, senhorita Slinkhard. Espero não estar causando nenhum incômodo.
Quanto ao disco... hm, é... diferente? Um bom... diferente. I had never seen, I mean, listened to something like it before. It was quite surprising and interesting. And I would never bet thay you were a punk yourself, either.
Hey! Nós não aceitamos a entrada de pessoas que nunca ouviram Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, me desculpe.
I most in fact have listened to Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. Or, well, parts of it. But I’d put this on my cousin, if you may excuse me. Malika loves to meddle around my room and I’d never hear the end of it if she found out about it.
How lonely it is here, and how well it suits you.
Franz Kafka, The Blue Octavo Notebooks (via kafkaesque-world)
Oh, no! Please, Doc, don’t fight with me! I’m happy today and it’s been a long time that I don’t feel like this way. But you won, I’ll stop screaming, I don’t want to be evicted after all. Sh-specially becaus-sh-se you want to leave me alone and I do not have money enough to live alone… I mean… y'know I do not even have money enough to share an apartment.
But today is sh-saturday, Doc! We do not have time for ours-shelves during the week, we mush-st enjoy the weekend! C'mon! Do you want me to share my fires-sh-swhisky? We can drink and get drunk without screaming, I s-swear to Merlin.
You can be happy and quiet, can’t you? I trust you are a rather good multitasker, Malika. You were tyding the living room and complaining about it the other day just fine, if I recall it well. Anyway, it is nothing to worry about. You are not screaming now, are you? I believe that if you keep it down, we won’t have any trouble with our landlord.
Speak for yourself. I have to go down to the Ministry later to take care of some... things I couldn’t do over the week. I’ll probably get home late, actually, so I can’t really give myself the luxury of partying ‘til the sun goes up again. So I am drinking tea. Chamomile. And I’d advise you to do the same. Specially because you don’t need to get drunk. You’re already drunk.
