withnosleep:
There was something about this android that seemed different from the other ones. More advanced, maybe. It was hard to be sure, since Quentin didnât know too much about them. His father had been talking about getting one to act as a new mother figure, but it was something that Quentin had been quick to shut down. He didnât want a new mom, and he was too old for that now anyway. He was going onto 19 and would be out of the house, on his own within a matter of time. Besides, it wasnât as if any android could actually feel anything, right? They only acted like they did. Regardless, it was hard for Quentin to see them as machines when they looked and sounded so real. It seemed like he was talking to another human being right now, not a robot.
Remaining still while the android tilted his face up, Quentin watched the manâs darker eyes study him. What was going on inside his head, he had no clue. Did they have their own thoughts at all? There was a lot he was curious about when it came to the androids.
âEver been stalked by someone who wants to kill you in your dreams?â Quentin asked, though soon gave a small wave of his hand to brush off the question. âOf course not, youâre an android.â If he couldnât even explain what he was going through to a human, what would make explaining it to an android any different? Theyâd probably just try to diagnosis him with something, too. It was easier and more logical than believing what he claimed to be the truth. âDo you even dream? Or sleep?â
Connorâs unable to answer, both because he doesnât have an adequate answer, and because Quentin shuts him down before he can even try. It sounds all too much like when heâd first actually attempted to bond with Hank - I donât listen to music as such, but Iâd like to. Maybe the same could be said about dreaming.
â...Unfortunately, no. Androids donât really require sleep in the same way that humans do...the child models can simulate sleep, and the closest we come is going into an...idle mode, I suppose. It feels like sleep.â Had he ever dreamed? He wasnât sure; he was afraid that the images in his head, replayed memories made more fantastical, or little vignettes spun from experiences during the day, would mark him as a deviant.
â...I think weâre capable of it. But those types of dreams...no, I canât say for certain. Itâs...concerning, however. Even for a human to have those dreams. Especially repeatedly; they never change?â
