-— 💥彡 It was quiet; Dauntingly quiet. Only a smidgen of white noise would eventually hinder the silence as time passed. That same white noise tickled at a very passed out Shadow’s ears, stirring his body awake. Shadow struggled to open his eyes as they somehow felt heavier than usual. However, he was persistent, eventually getting the suckers open. A stifled grunt emitted from the back of Shadow’s throat forcing himself to sit up.

“…?!”

It took some time but his eyes adjusted to the surrounding area, which in truth wasn’t much to look at. The anti-hero found himself in a dark, void like room… if he could call it a room? There were no walls to be found. The darkness that set itself before him seemed never-ending. The floor beneath him was white having an almost stone-like texture, but what confused Shadow most regarding his whereabouts was this… beam of light. Shadow shifted his gaze upward while using his left hand to shield his vision in an attempt to search where it came from. It wasn’t natural light… and there was no lamp or electronic device to be found… Odd.

Unable to fully comprehend his current situation, the hedgehog’s attention was brought elsewhere as an abrupt wave of laughter echoed through the darkness. The noise was more than enough to enforce Shadow to stand almost immediately. Shadow stood firm, unphased by these countless unsettling cackles. It was… uncertain what he was to be confronted with. Despite that, the hedgehog would handle things as he always had— With the utmost confidence.

“Show yourself. I mean you no harm… I can assure you of that.”

This was a new one for him. Invading someone’s very dreams, man, was that exciting. He inherently knew everything he could do to completely decimate this guy. This strange monster. He was very short for a monster, but hey, he was pretty short himself compared to others. He was going to make the most of this ability. He was going to play the ultimate game with this guy. See how long it took to make him beg for the sweet release of death.

He, of course, didn’t know this guy was the ultimate life form. Nor did he care. He was just thinking of the games they would play.

“Aha!”

With a pop of diamonds, he appears before the hedgehog. His sharp teeth are showing in his devilish grin. The slits that were his eyes are narrow, with golden irises glowing in the dark.

“No harm? No harm? My, what a charm! But you harming me is not what’s the concern. As more time goes on that’s something you'll learn. You’re in my world now, this is my game. It could be a disaster, or perhaps, will it be tame? Ha ha! We’ll just have to find out! Out!”

He somersaults in the air, now laughing again. With a snap of his fingers,a spade comes out and rushes towards the hedgehog in question, seeking to give him a cut. Just a small one, of course. He didn’t want to have all the really big fun right away. He wanted to take his time, to revel, and play. He’s laughing all the while, as now a diamond shoots forward. This time aimed at Shadow’s quills.

“So, what’s your fancy? How shall we play? Should I put all your fears away? I know what they are, you can’t hide from me. What’s gonna come next? We’ll see! We’ll see!”

With another snap of his fingers, comes a deck of cards. He shuffles them in the air, each one flying above him, and landing subsequently into his hands. His tongue is out now, this is too much fun! He planned on scaring this guy until he wanted to run. Not that he’d be able to escape the darkness, this was his world now. He was the king, and Shadow was just a pawn.

Now he holds them out, face down.

“Pick a card! Any card! Come on now, don’t be late! What’s on the card will most certainly be what will seal your fate.”

Who was this stranger? It appeared as though he’d recently fallen here. It wasn’t uncommon for people to fall into the dark world. Strange looking monster, though, he’d never seen anyone like it. He chose to stay in the shadows for now, out of sight. He didn’t want to risk being seen too soon, and ruining the potential for a fun game. It wasn’t common for him to stumble upon new people, but that made it all the more fun!

So fun, in fact, that he starts laughing. Laughing at the thought of all the fun they were going to have together. He wondered what a monster looked like when it was sliced in two. Good question. He’d have to find out, he’d missed his chance the last time he saw a monster. He didn’t want to miss that opportunity this time, no sir. But it would have to wait until he woke up.

For now, he was amused just by thinking of the games they were going to play. Laughing, just at the thought! He couldn’t control his consistent laughter, it was just too much fun, thinking about what they could do together. Boy, he’d gotten lucky in finding this guy before anybody else did.

Okay, so the guy was ignorant, and maybe a little dumb so he didn’t really know what he was doing. Scarlet took a deep breath and calmed himself down a bit more to explain why he shouldn’t meddle with the emerald. “This giant jewel is the power source that keeps this island floating in the sky. If it’s power is disturbed or it’s broken, then it falls and everyone will die… ”

Now that sounded like fun. Seeing an island fall from the sky, what could be more entertaining than that? The giant splash it would make! And of course, all the hearts that would stop beating. Maybe he could win it in a game. But what kind of game did you play with someone that didn’t involve fighting? Maybe a game like the old days.

So he takes out a deck of cards. Magically, of course, he never left without them. They begin to float around him, all face down. 

“Pick a card! Any card! The card that’s right for you. Which do you want? Which do you pick? Whatever will you do?”

Blink blink.

Well, he did ask nicely.

So he withdraws his tongue from the fantastic green gem, instead, resting both elbows on it, purposely moving his head from left to right so that the bells on his hat would jingle. He found it amusing, how angry this person got over the simplest of things. So naturally, he tried to get that anger out of him every chance he got.

It was all just a game.

“Why?”

He lazily somersaulted through the air.

“It’s quite a treat, don’t you think? Like dark candy! But not as sweet.  Or as chewy, for that matter. In fact, I haven’t been able to bite this thing at all!”

Ralsei is slowly being worn down, his scarf lashing out at incredible speeds to match the oncoming onslaught of sharp shapes - but for every ten or so he destroys, one breaks through and hits him directly. His form is destabilising, flows of darkness emitting from various parts of his body. The jester is tiring out, for sure - but it might not be enough for Ralsei to claim victory on this day. He grunts and keeps at it, for now.

“You s-shall have neither, cruel fool! I w-will see to it!”

His previous, almost dance-like moves are slowly fading to desperate dashes around to dodge missiles coming toward him while stopping them attacking the rose itself. It’s clear now that this is a lost fight. Half of his energy against Jevil before had come from the presence of Susie and Kris backing him up. This time he stood alone. Underhanded tactics were not something he liked to use - but at this point, they might be all he has. If there is no victory for him, then for the jester there shall also be none. His scarf swipes through the air, and Ralsei looks him dead in the eyes as it works, and another shot shatters against his shoulder.

“Succumb? Never! Ensure y-your failure despite your efforts? Most certainly!”

Ralsei’s scarf whips out again, vicious and lashing… straight towards the cake itself. With the court fool being so tired, there likely wouldn’t be much time for him to react. If Ralsei cannot have and share the riches of his cake without people like this trying to rob him of them, then like a mother would to two bickering children, neither of them would get to have it. His scarf impacts the very side of the cake and digs in towards the centre, then swings it back from the counter. The resulting motion tears the inside right out - and sends the cake to the grand where it smashes alongside the plate.

That was going to suck to clean up - but now there are no spoils. Without spoils, what’s the point of the game. Ralsei, confident in what he’s accomplished, the cake ruined across the cobblestone floor, just gives a weak smile.

“…G-Game over.”

“There’s nothing you can do! I’m winning th is game, game! Aha!”

He was laughing, quite loudly. He was definitely impressed by how fast Ralsei could move, but he knew the guy was getting tired from the repeated blows he was taking. The scrapes and cuts to his form was pleasure to Jevil’s eyes. He was going to put an end to this lonely prince, at least for a little while. He understood that darkners couldn’t really die, they were comprised of magical energy. That was why he himself couldn’t die, no matter how many blows he took.

When he was through, it would be Ralsei who needed a hundred year nap. And the thought of that made him laugh even more. Even dance around a little bit.

But the truth of the matter was, he was also tired. That pirouette’s motions had planted the sleepy bug in his mind. Not to mention, how much energy he was using to throw all of these shapes. He was having the time of his life, but it was also very tiring. Well, that was okay. The cake was going to help renew some of that lost energy. Then he could go on to play with even more people, it was going to be the most fun he had in years!

Or so he thought.

He hadn’t been expecting the other to ruin the cake completely. His jaw is agape as he watches, that beautiful cake collapsing. All that tasty energy, gone. He’d ruined it. He could lap up what was left, but it wouldn’t give the same energy levels as an entire cake. That really made his lack of blood boil. The smile vanishes, replaced with an angry glare. That was very rare for Jevil, but this had really gotten on his nerves.

What was the point of the game now?

He summons the Devil’s Knife immediately in his hands.

“You’re going to regret that.”

No rhymes, or repeated words. His face takes on a deathly show, as a wicked smile slowly creeps up on his features. His pointed teeth begin to show, as he prepares himself for the attack. This was going to be huge, he was going to get revenge for that monster ruining his cake. It was rightfully his, he saw it first, after all. That was his logic, anyway. The game was just to have a little fun before meal time, if he really wanted it, he could have stole it away while the other wasn’t looking.

But what fun would that have been?

Jevil charges forward, scythe in hand, ready to slice Ralsei into pieces for his crimes. That was his goal, as he quickly flies forward. He was going to suffer for what he did. He’d ruined that beautiful snack. Now he was going to have to find food elsewhere, and finding a perfect cake like that was no easy feat whatsoever. Next time, he’d just steal it, rather than give Ralsei the chance to ruin everything, including the fun game they were playing.

As he charges forward, he begins to laugh. He was going to get so much pleasure out of the mage’s pain.

It’s fair to say he’s a little tired out, letting his hands glow with golden energy as he heals his minor wounds. So far so good. The assertions that jester made that he’s starving fall on deaf ears, even with his alarmingly theatrical display of being nowhere near hungry. This darn thing was going to drive him insane.

Nevertheless, those words have no effect on Ralsei’s defensive play, his scarf whipping out to stop oncoming shapes and attacks that would jeopardize the gift to himself for making it through another few days. A chaotic little monster like this would not get the better of him today. Perhaps he had before, when they first met in his cell - but not today… Which makes it a lot more worrying when the shapes begin specifically targeting him. 

“Ack! I-I thought it was t-the cake you wanted…!”

Well now the situation has changed. Ralsei’s scarf is working over time, and the jester doesn’t appear to be tiring. He keeps working as best as he can, doing a pirouette even! He saw Kris doing it during their fight so… perhaps it’d help here to try and tired the crazy ol’ jester out? He could hope. The scarf keeps dashing outwards, his focus entirely on defending both his life and his manufactured rose.

He would not lose today, despite several of the diamonds slashing against him initially and causing streaks of a dark, gaseous substance to escape from the Prince’s body.

It was quite impressive, seeing him shatter those shapes. His magic broke, he couldn’t keep it stable through those fierce lashes. But that wasn’t stopping him from sending more in. Of course, this takes energy. That was something he didn’t have a lot of, even though he’d just woken from a nap. It was a short nap, and as to be expected, his energy was depleting. But he still had some tricks up his sleeve.

“The cake! The cake! A trivial prize. I’d rather see you collapse before my own eyes!”

Besides, slicing that rose would have been way easier if Ralsei was downed. Then he could win the game, claim the cake, and save it for when he woke up again, because he was definitely going to need another sleeping session after this game. He was getting tired up, and that movement Ralsei just made just worsened it. The spinning motion lulled him, made him even more sleepy. Which is why he frowns.

Then he rubs his eyes. Even yawns.

“That’s not gonna work a second time!” His face takes on a more aggressive look, as his deadly smile returns. Then he goes all out, throwing a mix of diamonds, clubs, and spades directly at the mage. With plenty of hearty laughter, as well. All in all, he was having a lot of fun, even though he wasn’t particularly winning the game. It wouldn’t be the first time he lost to this guy, what mattered was the fun you had during it.

But he also really wanted that cake.

So he expends even more energy, to send more razor sharp, magical shapes at both Ralsei and the rose. Now he was really getting sleepy, but he had to get that cake. Anyone could have just stolen it while Ralsei wasn’t looking, it took a real professional to win it over a game. If he didn’t win soon, he’d have to bring out the Devil’s Knife. He was trying to keep from it, as it took so much energy to perform, but he was running out of options.

“Are you getting tired? What’ll it be? Are you ready to succumb to me?”

Scarlet didn’t know what the fuck to do about a massive scythe coming down to slice the island in half. The echidna lost his color in fear and dread as he was struck with the realization he failed to protect the paradise, the emerald, and most importantly failed to protect the echidna species. His heart stopped, everything was going to be gone in the blink of an eye. “No…” There had to be something he could do, he couldn’t just watch it happen. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” He roared and bolted off running, his chaos energy surging with fierce intensity as it crackled all around him, aiding him in gaining speed on ground. A massive amount of it was concentrated to his right fist and he reared it back. Then as he leaped, he threw his super powered fist forward with such strength it blasted him like he was shot out of five canons! His thought was perhaps he could deflect the scythe if he hit the flat side of it hard enough.

However, Scarlet didn’t get to try that theory and he was flabbergasted when the entire thing just suddenly seemed to vanish right before he was about to collide with it! “What?!” He thought fast and dove down to the ground, sliding across it on his stomach and tearing up the dirt until coming to a stop about ten feet away from Jevil. The echidna had the most stunned, bewildered and utterly confused look on his face as he looked up at the blue jester. What the fuck just happened? Wait, did he just ask to sleep on the emerald? “WHAT?!” he barked. “NO YOU CAN’T FUCKING NAP ON MY EMERALD! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!” He shouted, still on the ground, now shaking his fist at the other..

In the end, Scarlet had won the game. His heart was still beating, after all. Jevil was much too tired to continue on with that game, he was ready for some good rest and relaxation. He could have definitely spent a few days sleeping after that rousing game. Had to get back all that energy he’d just spent. He lowers himself, seating on the emerald itself. To his surprise, it was not as soft as it looked. So he knocked on it a few times, eyes furrowing. This wasn’t soft at all, what kind of gemstone was this? How was he supposed to sleep on such a hard surface? The grass was softer!

“This is no bed! I’ve been fooled!”

He lifts himself back into the air, crossing his arms. To be fair, he’d never actually touched a gemstone before. He’d just assumed they were soft, that the gem part of a stone was soft. He knew real stones certainly weren’t soft, but gems might have been different. It appeared they weren’t, that thing was as hard as any rock he’d ever touched. It was pretty, but that was all it was. Scarlet was lucky he didn’t shatter it right then and there for being a tease. But he’d won the game, so he’d give the guy some slack.

No shattering any gemstones today. He didn’t much feel up to summoning anymore magic. Not without a good nap.

“Congratulations to you, to you! You won the game! Your heart’s still beating, you really kept up! We have to play again someday, but I’m afraid that will not be today, or even tomorrow. I need sleep, sleep! You’re a good kid, most certainly so! But I’m afraid my time here is up, I’ve really got to go! I need to find a soft place to nap. Never fear, as soon as I recover, I can be back, asap! I don’t like that bright glowing ball in the sky, it’s a pain to look at, really hurts my eye.

But for you, I can always play! You’re certainly a lot of fun. And when I’m back you’ll feel as though the game has just begun!”

He laughs again, lazily somersaulting through the air. He didn’t want to sit on that ugly rock anymore, it was much too hard. He’d just nap under a tree, in the shade, where it wasn’t too hot, and it wasn’t too bright. The jester gives a little wave, and a bow, as well. Before he slowly flies away to get some sleep for a spell.

Ralsei just looks bewildered when Jevil, of all people, loses his smile so quickly, given the only other time he saw that happen was as he was about to be defeated. Needless to say, that causes the Prince a great deal of concern - which thankfully seems to be unfounded for the moment as Jevil starts to grin at him again. Thank goodness.

“You… You certainly are not w-wasting away even s-slightly, Jevil…”

Well, at least he hadn’t lost his ability to blatantly lie, that’s a relief. Sort of… Not really, actually. That threw pretty much everything he’d said into the potential for disbelief - which frankly, he had on high already. Just for a moment, Ralsei is quite enamoured by the rose growing out of the heart! It’s surprisingly endearing, considering who it is doing it. 

That doesn’t last long, as the rules come into play, and Jevil very eagerly starts.

“A-Ack, wait!”

Too late, Ralsei dives forward to begin his rabid defense. If there’s one thing he’s good at, it’s protecting friends - and right now, this rose is the best one he’s ever had. His scarf whips out and begins to shatter the oncoming shapes, though he can’t stop all of them, not at all…

Which is why Ralsei, in his determination not to fail, puts himself in front of a good few of them. He would not let this villain succeed, no matter what. Sure it’s a trivial thing to fight over, but… Well, he aims to have this cake, and to serve it to friends. Not to Jevil, of all people.

“But I am! I am!”

He does a somersault through the air, and places his hands on his round torso. He’s grinning, of course. It was a lie, one could tell just by looking at him. Even after over a century being locked up, he remained the same physical form, which was a butterball, easy enough. But that’s not going to stop him from claiming otherwise. In dramatic fashion, he cups his large tum in his hands, picks it up, and drops it. That was a boinging that didn’t involve his head. Still made the sound though, as if he were a toy.

“Can’t you see? Can’t you see? There’s hardly anything left of me!”

His hands now come together with a loud clap. Diamonds made out of magical energy begin to form, and glow brightly.

“Aha!”

His eyes furrow, and his smile widens even further. Dark; sinister.

“You’re not bad at this game, but it has only begun! With these diamonds I’m sure there’ll be even more fun! Fun! Diamonds, hearts, clubs or spades. There’s nothing I can’t do! And soon, dear friend, you’re gonna find, these shapes are after you.”

His final words are spoken in a dark tone. Low, compared to his normal voice.

“Ha ha!”

He laughs, throwing the diamonds not specifically at the rose, but at Ralsei himself. He figured, there was no way Ralsei could protect that rose, it would be easy picking once he got rid of the other creature. It crossed his mind, that it might not be a good idea to kill this guy. He didn’t know how to bake a cake, only Ralsei did. How would he get another one once he’d consumed this one? Tough decisions had to be made.

So now, after a short period, he aims the diamonds at Ralsei’s hat instead of at his body. Still completely ignoring the rose, it wasn’t in his mind right now. So truth be told, he was losing the game, but he was having a load of fun just making the fluffy boy squirm. He had plenty of time to go after the rose later, though he was impressed by his shapes being shattered.

Looked like Ralsei wasn’t so weak after all. He looked pitiful, but he could manage a fight if he had to, it appeared.

After he came out of the drill attack Scarlet jumped back to maintain his distance once again, He knew by now it was indeed a good idea not to stay too close. The strategy seemed mostly the same with his enemy, in that his main mode of attack was manipulating projectiles Scarlet had to avoid. He was visibly worked up and clearly frustrated how his last attack didn’t end the blue berry right there. He was about to curse some more at him and his jolly attitude when he heard the familiar sound of sharp blades whooshing through the air above. His ear twitched as there were a lot of those noises swishing in ominous unison. “Oh shit…” Scarlet looked up and his eyes widened at the rain of deadly scythes falling down from the sky! “OH SHIT!”

He yelled and did the only thing he could and started dodging to the best of his ability. The echidna hopped about and cartwheeled, flipping this way and that and rolling under some very close calls. At some points he could feel fur grazed off in places, really only fueling his anger and determination. He was growling now as he made his way way all around dodging the plummeting blades. Where was that bastard at to even attack? It was difficult to get a lock on him since he turned himself into a scythe as well. It seemed he had no other options right now but to keep dodging the deadly rain.

It continued for a short while, not too long. An attack this big took a lot of energy to cast, and he was quickly running out of it. It would be time to sleep soon, for who knew how long. Maybe a day, maybe a week. Maybe even a month! Whatever it took to recover his energy and join the world of the living again. After a short period of rain, it stopped. But then came something even bigger. A gigantic scythe, the size of the entire island began boring down, ready to slice it in two.

And it kept coming. This was his ultimate chaos.

Of course, just as it neared the ground, it vanished. He’d only done it to scare the guy, he never meant any real harm. Not to mention, turning into the Devil’s Knife of such a size took up an extreme level of energy. Now he was tired. So he reforms himself, once again, near the glowing green gem. He really wants to sleep on it, but if this Scarlet guy was really so against it, he supposed he could find a nice tree to rest under instead. Get out of this wretched sunlight.

Jevil stretches his arms, and lets out a big yawn.

“You’re good at games! I like you! But all good things must come to an end. Now what will you do? Do? You’re strong, strong. Fast, fast. I haven’t had so much fun in ages! You’re a great playmate! I’ll never forget you! You! Now are you gonna let me sleep on this rock or not? I really don’t like the light, and it’s getting too hot. This rock is nicely shaded, a perfect place to nap! You can do whatever you want in the meantime.”

“Indeed, y-yes I’m… absolutely thrilled t-that you do…”

That’s a lie, clearly, given the look of worry and vague disgust on his face. It’s not often Ralsei finds someone he doesn’t like. At least the jester here has the excuse of potential insanity, unlike some people in this world. He lets out a small sigh as, at the very least, Jevil isn’t after his life this time. Frankly, the lack of an immediate death sentence is quite relaxing - if not still panic inducing, given the relative unpredictability of the chaotic thing.

“…Y-Yes. Yes, I d-did make it myself, um… W-Why do you even w-want it…?”

He can’t imagine he needs to eat considering how long he was locked away… or locked out, as he’d probably put it. His scarf starts to flow behind him as, with that little demand and sing-song request from the jester, a spade and a heart appear before him - a familiar sight, hence Ralsei’s preparation for combat with his scarf flowing behind him.

“…Um, w-well… It only seems r-right to pick hearts, I-I mean… it’s on my c-chest after all.”

Even he lost his smile at that, raising an eyebrow. Was he really asking why he wanted a cake? What on Earth did people do with cakes other than eat them? Was there some kind of game he was missing? Jevil didn’t believe in playing with one’s food. That was one game he was not interested in. Nonetheless, he shakes it off, and the great big smile returns.

“To eat, to eat! It will be quite a treat! Can’t you see I’m wasting away? Why, I could lose the energy to play!”

He wasn’t wasting away in the slightest, he didn’t even need food. But it gave energy, and that was something he wanted more of. The more energy you had, the more games you could play! Now that he was allowed into their cell, he wanted to play with everyone!

“A heart! A heart! Oh, what a perfect start!”

The spade vanishes. The heart is laid flat, as though it were a table, with a wave of his hands. Index finger out, he moves his arm in a circular motion, which creates a stunning rose atop the heart. It was amazing what a guy could do with just a little magic. Creating entertaining shapes had been his job, after all, before the kings decided to lock themselves away.

“You have to keep this little plant alive. While I throw things at it! If you can do that, you win! Win! But if you lose...”

He points towards the counter top, where the cake was sitting.

“It’s all mine! Mine! Are you ready to play? Play?”

The jester backs away a few steps, summoning more shapes out of magic to toss towards the mage, and of course, his rose. This was a simple game, he wanted it to be over quickly, so he could hurry up and eat that delectable looking cake.

“Ready or not, here they come!”

Sharp spades, and clubs are shot off in the direction of the rose. Of course, they were also headed in the direction of Ralsei. If he got cut in the process, Jevil didn’t care. That was where the real fun was, anyway.

“I don’t particularly like having my life threatened, you dick!” Scarlet barked at the other and was about to close in to take another shot at the jester. But he saw something new join the fray as bombs started falling to the ground and exploding in batches of razor sharp clubs like shrapnel flying at him. Luckily Scarlet was skilled and nimble, making him able to roll under and leap over the deadly shapes. “Oh new tricks huh?! Well, I’ve got a lot of tricks up my sleeve as well!” And Scarlet wasn’t feeling like playing around with this guy. The echidna hopped onto a spring hidden in some bushes and launched himself high into the air.

He then dive bombed downward and twirled with his fists out ahead himself, chaos energy crackling as it surrounded him in his famous drill dive attack! He came down like a green tornado of light, astonishingly swerving and weaving between the obstacles still on the attack, just nearly missing some of them on his way to the annoying blue target.  “NOW SAY GOODNIGHT!”

“It’s only life threatening if you lose! Lose!”

Grinning with delight, he’s quite pleased with how good this guy was at playing. He hadn’t met someone this skilled since those lightners. It was quite boring for him, most people lost the game quickly. But not this Scarlet fellow, oh no, he was a lot of fun! It had been some time since he’d met someone so fast. He wasn’t sure how long he’d slept since those other kids made him so tired. A while, though not quite as long as he’d been expecting.

He was going to get some good rest after this game. No one had tired him up this well in ages.

Did he make any effort to avoid this next blow? No! Of course not! What fun would that be? His grin only widened as the other drew closer, and closer. He was interested in seeing what else the guy could do. Then it hit, and the pain washed over him like a pleasant ocean wave. Quite the showy technique, it impressed him.

His head went boinging off in a million different directions from the force of the impact, and he was laughing the entire time. Now his body was scratched, and bruised. But that only drove him to keep playing the game. He floated himself up from the enormous crater this blow had left. He’s still grinning, still giggling, in spite of the physical pain. He thrived on it.

“So that’s the game you wanna play? Well, why didn’t you say? Uee hee hee! I love that kind of game! Game!”

He twirls around for a moment, transforming himself into a jester like scythe.

“Metamorphosis.” He mutters. “Bye bye!”

He could be showy as well. Scythes began raining down from the sky, exploding as soon as they touched the ground. It started off slow, but quickly became a rapid rain of them, all over the place. It didn’t leave a mark on the ground, the explosions weren’t physical. They were a result of pure magic. His laughter rang throughout the entire area.

He was running out of energy, it would be time to take a nap pretty soon.

“That is not just a glowing rock!” Scarlet shouted and leaped back to get some bit of distance. He didn’t know what this Jevil guy was capable of at close proximity, so for now he was cautious and didn’t want to get close unless he was sure he’d land a hit. He growled in annoyance at the insistent rhyming spewing from the jester’s mouth, his skin almost crawling from how it agitated him so much.  

But he had to keep his head. He could get angry and it always helped in a fight, but this guy had a way of gnawing at his focus. That just made Scarlet even madder when he realized it. Thankfully he realized it just in time to see the razor sharp diamonds flying at him so that he could side flip over one row and roll under the other. Then he ran in a wide circle to evade the projectiles. “I’m not having fun, asshole!” 

“It’s a rock! A rock! What a rock to hock!”

If he had any need for money, he would have sold it. But he got by just fine without monetary value. It was much better to earn your goods through winning a game. That was what he did. Life was more fun that way, and if you couldn’t have fun, what was the point of living?

“Looks like a great stone for a nap. But a game before going to sleep is much more fun! Fun!”

Maybe it was time to step things up a bit. This guy was pretty good at dodging, which only made the game more fun. A difficult target to hit meant he could pull out the big guns. Eventually. For now, he was having fun just running the guy around. Amazing, what a little magic could do. Scarlet was running all over the place, just to avoid a few diamonds. He could have summoned so many more, and faster, too. But what fun would it be to end the game so quickly?

He generates bombs this time. Bombs that fall from the sky, and explode into clubs that head out in every direction. Sharp clubs, of course. So sharp they would cut anything they ran into. These ones moved at a moderate pace. Not too slow, but not too fast either. He’d have to really run around to avoid these.

“What’s wrong with you? Can’t you enjoy a game? For a good looking color you’re pretty lame! It’s just some fun, why do you resist? Just a simple chaos! Chaos! Isn’t that the best?”

Perfect.

Today’s session of baking had gone particularly well. Not that they usually don’t go well, but today was just… perfect. The chocolate cake he’d created was perfectly circular, stuffed with chocolate chips, and vanilla icing perfectly set around the sides. Indeed there remained only one thing left to do - cut the darn thing! If only that really good knife was still around… No matter.

Ralsei’s little culinary adventure comes to a sudden stop, however, right as he goes to grab a knife to cut the cake up into several pieces due to a familiar voice hitting his ears. A voice as familiar as it is terrifying. His scarf whips up behind him as though caught in a breeze, turning to see none other than Jevil himself.

The terror he feels is almost palpable, especially once he speaks. The last time they played a ‘game’ together, it almost killed him, after all.

At least this time the stakes seem relatively low.

“…Oh g-goodness gracious. You just w-want the cake? I mean… I s-suppose it depends then o-on what sort of game y-you have in mind…?”

“A game! A game! Aren’t you glad I remembered your name?”

After all, it was thanks to Ralsei that he escaped his freedom. Him, and those two other weirdos. They’d opened the door, letting him into the cell. Now he could have fun with everyone. Wouldn’t that be a spell? But his sights right now were on that scrumptious looking cake. A jester needed to keep his strength up, after all. That involved sleeping, and eating.

A cake was way better than what they served him during his time alone.

“The cake! The cake! Who wouldn’t want it? Did you make it yourself? You’re really on it!”

He had to admit, Ralsei had some serious skills as a baker. He bet that cake tasted even better than it looked. Forget slices, he’d shove the whole thing in his mouth if he could. But he might as well give Ralsei the chance to keep it for himself. A game was the only fair way to decide who would get it. So he summoned some magic. A heart, and a spade.

“Pick a shape! Pick a shape! The shape that’s right for you. You’ve got two choices, what will it be? Whatever will you do?”

 Scarlet watched intently on how his foe would react. Would he dodge in time or would it hit him? He was quite surprised to see him not even flinch as the rock blasted him full force right in the face. More shocking was how his head appeared to bobble on a spring. What the hell was that about? The only answer he could come up with in his mind was perhaps this guy was a new robot built by Eggman. But if that was the case, then why didn’t it seem to know the name of it’s target? Aggravated and riled up to fight, the echidna answered back and put his blade away to favor his hands  “My name’s Scarlet, and I don’t care what your name is! I already wish I’d never met you!” 

Seeing the small razor like objects flying at him, Scarlet dove under them and straight into the ground, burrowing beneath it like a ravenous golfer on speed. Unseen, he crossed the distance to the one called Jevil and exploded out of the ground beneath him, flying up at him with a ferocious uppercut! “I’ll knock you off my island!”

“Scarlet! Scarlet! You’re much different than any monster I’ve seen! But that doesn’t mean we can’t play! Play!”

It was impressive how angry a person could get over just a simple game. Boy, this Scarlet guy really sounded mad. This was entirely too much fun, it should have been illegal! Of course, in the dark world, it was illegal. The light world seemed to operate by different rules. The sheer amount of sunlight wasn’t a pleasant thing to deal with. It hurt his eyes if he looked at it. That would be the first thing to go if he got the chance to mold this planet.

An ear flicks when the monster goes underground. Or, what he assumed to be a monster. It definitely wasn’t a human, that was for sure. He could hear the ravenous movements underground. Quite the strange one, he’d never seen anyone do something like that. It only heightened the excitement! Did he even make an effort to get out of the way? Of course not, what fun would that be? He took the full brunt of the hit and went flying upwards.

Now this was what he called fun. His head sprang all over the place, for a short period of time. But the game wasn’t over yet. He still had plenty of energy to spare.

“Uee hee hee! I’m having way too much fun!”

He calls that out as he quickly flies right back down. The pain felt great, reminded him why it was so much fun to play with people. It was time to show off some more. This time, he summoned diamonds made out of magic. As he flies down, he sends them alongside himself. They would surely slice open anything they touched, they were made to be very sharp.

“Don’t you feel the excitement? Where’s your sense of fun? Don’t you understand the importance of what you’ve done?”

There was more laughter to follow.

“You sure are protective over that glowing rock. I just wanted to nap, but this is way more fun! Fun!”

Scarlet jumped back on reflex as the scythe cut through the air directly in fron of his face. His eyes went wide and that near hit shot an intense surge of adrenaline rushing through his system, igniting his rage as well.  “Argh! You son of a bitch!”He shouted, hackles raised.  “I’m ready to kick your ass! Kick your ass! ” Scarlet threatened and also mocked the way the jester repeated his words. The echidna really didn’t take lightly to someone threatening his life, especially acting like it was some kind of game. 

He decided to take his turn now and attack. But he didn’t know what to expect if he got too close to those hearts circling his foe. Thinking quick, Scarlet saw a palm sized rock on the ground out of the corner of his eye. One hand wielding his blade, he set his sights on the jester and swung the flat side of his blade at the rock and launched it like a hockey puck shot out of a canon at the evil clown! “Eat this, you putrid fucking blueberry!”

To him, everything was a game. If you lost, too bad! He’d just have to find someone else to play with!

You could bet, this jester was grinning. He hadn’t met someone this willing to play since those lightners back in his lonely freedom. Didn’t take much to rile him up, did it? What a strange little person. Something told him he was about to have the time of his life! For now, anyway, until he found someone else to play with. It would appear, that this guy was ready for games.

Maybe he was a shark too?

Rather than try to avoid that rock, he let it hit, and it hit full force. Which sent his head bouncing backwards on the coil it was attached to. It brought out heaps of laughter from Jevil. His head eventually bounced back into place, his tongue now sticking out of his open mouth.

“What fun! What fun! But this game’s only just begun!”

He figured he’d start off small. The big stuff could come later. Had to make it a show, after all! Entertain the masses, naturally! There didn’t seem to be a crowd here, but that didn’t matter. They were all in his mind, cheering them both on. Some praising the red monster, some praising himself. It was quite a turn out, but it was only naturally so. Who would want to miss this?

So he generates clubs out of light magic, clubs as they would be found on playing cards. Sharp as razors, they would certainly leave a nasty scratch if any of them hit their target. They were small, like little pieces of ripped up paper, and they came flying at him from the jester’s direction. Not too hard to avoid, since he was starting slow.

“What’s your name? Your name? It’s important for the game! I’m Jevil, you see. I bet you’ll wish you never met me!”

This was a place like no other Silver had visited before, strange lights bathed shapes like he had never seen before. And around and away from that, pitch darkness for as far as the eye could see. 

Ears perked, catching with attention and wonder what seemed to be carnival music on the distance. Yet he saw, nor smelled any carnivals around.

Instead, a jester gathering people that wasn’t there, speaking to an audience that didn’t exist- Feeling strangely like they were calling them in, without even referring or pointing to his own person.

Everything about this reeked. Fur on a stand, and completely unnerved, he closed the gap toward’s the jester, pretending to hide just how uncomfortable he really was.

“ There is… No one else here. “ He stood now in front of the clown, not much difference in size between the two of them.

“ Is there supposed to be a circus, somewhere around? “ Silver reached the card with the hearts on it, and held it between his fingers while studying it.

“ Is this like… Fortune telling or something like that? “

“My no! My no! Just look at my audience grow!”

That was his response. As far as he saw it, there were hundreds of others gathered round. Even though in reality, there was nothing there. His sharp teeth were fashioned into an eerie grin. His eyes were slightly narrowed, a side effect of smiling so hard. He was quite pleased with the turnout. A monster had wandered into his freedom.

How he got out of the prison was beyond him. But he didn’t care. Company!

“Jevil’s the name, cards are my game! You better pick one soon, before the crowd goes insane! Insane!”

He wiggled his hand again. He had plans for this guy. It was about time he had some fun around here, this time without secretly breaking out of his lonely little freedom. He tried to keep the chaos to a minimum, lest they find out he could get into the cell. For now, he would leave it at simple card tricks.

“Come now, come now! Won’t you play? You can’t just drive my crowd away! A good, fun game is what you need. You look so unique! What will it be? Be?”

“Pick a card, any card!”

He was feeling a little more tame today. No big mischief up his sleeve, just an innocent game. He shuffled the deck quite well, it made a rainbow over his own head. Now he held four out to be taken. A heart, a diamond, a spade, and a club. Each was number eight. This was a strange looking stranger, but he’d come to understand that monsters could take on almost any form.

Weirdos that they were, they still deserved the chance to play.
