Kitty did her best to try and be open about this. Ryder seemed desperate which was new for Kitty but it did make her feel bad for him. Kitty shook her head when he said there was some girl. There was always some girl but he talked about her for more than two seconds so maybe she was different. “Why don’t you just tell her the truth? Why go through all this hassle? It’s never going to work, Ryder.” Kitty looked down at her feet and was actually thinking about it until Ryder offered to pay her to do this.
Her eyes shot up at his like daggers. “Pay me? Ryder, you already pay me. I work for you, remember? And I apparently have done way too many favors for you to think I’d do this for you.” Kitty let out a long and annoyed sigh before softening her look. “You really like this girl? Like, you can see yourself ending up with her long term? The only flaw I see is what if she comes to the office to visit you and she sees me? I’m supposed to be your ex wife to be and I work for you?”
Kitty took a moment and nodded. “This is crazy, Ryder Lynn. Like beyond crazy. I don’t want you to pay me. I want you to answer my questions thoroughly and then beg me.”
Never in his life had he crashed so bad. Not only was he abusing his friendship with Kitty, but he was also being a huge jerk to Juliet by lying to her. With that information, it wasn’t hard to think of being honest for once. But knowing that he could lose the love of his life if he even entertained it for more than mere seconds helped keep him from making such a huge mistake. “No. No way. I can’t tell her the truth, I’m in way too deep and she’d totally hate me if I did it now. I’m a dead man if I do that.”
Ryder hated when Kitty got mad at him. She was hard to look at head on and she always said something that never really hit until much, much later and left him sitting wide awake in the middle of the night in a fit while she most likely slept like a baby. Chewing on his lip while he thought over his feelings, Ryder slowly started to nod. “I...she might be the one, Kitty. I don’t see myself humping and dumping like the rest of them. I don’t know--I just really want to see where this goes. I promise I’ll tell her the truth one day.” He honestly didn’t believe she’d ever stop by the office or even want to, but if she did, Ryder had an easy solution for that. “Consider yourself given the day off if she ever does show up. And if she does see you, I’ll just act like you’re here for a visit and my other assistant is out--Kitty, please!”
He was starting to whine now, which was already embarrassing enough when he was doing his best to bed for her help. Actually, no, he could beg better. Channeling the age in which he literally had to get on his hands and knees to ask for permission to go to a concert in the next town or one of his buddies after parties, Ryder rounded his desk and fell to the floor, grabbing Kitty’s hands in his. “Kitty Wilde, if do me this huge solid, I’ll never get secretly mad at you again and I promise I’ll always laugh at least once when you make fun of my Bieber hair or my weird row of front teeth or anything else.” Going for a full floor kind of thing didn’t really work because Ryder’s legs were a little too long and he ended up having to bend his knees a bit and grab onto the edge of her chair, but if she wanted begging, she was going to get it. “Please, please, please, please, please....”
