I don't think I've ever really talked about this publicly online because it's not really anyone's business but my own, but I thought back about this and want to talk about it more.
I'm a type 1 diabetic. I've had diabetes since I was 8, and I'm 18 now. That's over half of my life. I've spent over half of my life living with a disease that's still not fully understood by professionals and even less understood by the general public. Type 1 and type 2 are, as we understand them now, basically different conditions that where just roped together because they both cause the pancreas stop producing insulin and issues with blood glucose. Even then, there's way more to this disease than just 1 and 2.
I don't have the energy to explain the intricacies of the differences between 1, 2, and the in-betweens (if you're curious feel free to ask), because that's not really the point of this post. The point is that this disease is something I've been forced to learn just so I can wake up every morning, something that has ruined my life before I was even diagnosed, and something that I'll be saddled with for the rest of my life. I know all the symptoms, the causes, the "fixes," every bit of new technology that comes out that's supposed to make living a little easier, all the options for transplants and replacements, EVERYTHING. I've read about the research they're doing, I've been reading it for years.
All this to say: just because you read something online does not mean you are an expert. The research they're doing with stem cells all the way in China ? That's one person. That's something that I doubt will ever be available to the public, especially with the current state of the world. That's not a cure. Just because you've read an article does not mean you know more than someone who has grappled and suffered through this disease.
Do not try to argue with people about the illnesses they live with.
