Wooden floors go down!
Laying the grass in the garden
I havenât updated the blog in about 6 months now, mostly because Iâve just been too busy. I spent December in Cape Town, January back in London getting used to being in the cold again with a small baby, and packing up to move.Â
We were due to move into our house at the end of January, have the house finished two weeks later, start the loft and have everything done by mid-March. With two weeks to spare before I headed back to work after my maternity leave. HAH! I could talk about unrealistic timelines and how itâs now mid-May and still the house is not finished⊠but that would  depress me far too much and itâs not worth the energy that it would take. Instead, Iâll focus on updating on where we are now.
WIth only a few days before the (extended) moving in date, the house still resembled a building siteâŠÂ
KITCHEN-DINING:Â
Our kitchen-dining room has been our salvation. It was 95% finished before we moved in, with the splash-back fitted after we moved in - boxes unpacked on the first day:Â
We currently have 3 couches in our lounge, along with an 8-seater dining table, an ikea  expedid 5x5 bookshelf, another bookshelf, a console table, media unit, TV, poof⊠We bought a fantastic natural wood dining table & Kartel âMasterâ chairs from Graham & Greeneâs warehouse sale. While not massively discounted, it was exactly what I wanted and a little bit off is always a good thing!Â
The kitchen is still unfinished - small snags mainly, but enough that I notice them and it annoys me when I do.
Planning the paint scheme
15 days to go - the final countdown has begun
Move in 30th Jan 2014
Glass ceiling has finally arrived! Glass in & now the house will be watertight!
All windows are in!
Unfortunately the photos arenât great, taken by our builder, but these show the start.
Underfloor heating in the kitchen-dining done. The glass roof & wall is still not in - the supplier has been dragging his feet & messing our builder around. Frustrating as the builder is keen to get the house water-tight.
Family bathroom & 1st floor en-suite first fix.
Old stairs removed, new stairs arrive!
Back bi-fold doors are in. Underfloor heating is being laid down. Glass roof is delayed due to the supplier.
Finalising the kitchen floor. Sometimes you have to go full circle in order to get back to your first option.
Isabelle weighing in with her opinion on choosing bathroom furniture
Our finalised kitchen design. The finish will be all high gloss white. We have gone with a German manufacturer, as the quality is very high, but still affordable.
