365 Days of 2017 - Day 80
80th day, woo! And only one day behind. Not that bad.
Overall, I was still somewhat hit by the fact that I'm going to be published. It's such a weird and surreal thing to think about, and I'm REALLY excited for it. That excitement carried me through work a bit, and I pretty much had the night to do whatever. I brought the new Mass Effect game home with me because I preordered it a few days ago and wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately, I got really distracted because of the internet and was really struggling to keep my focus. Also, my character pretty much looks like a wannabe drag queen, which kind of fits with me. Note also the UMaine Pride Week shirt.
I only played for about an hour and a half and got mad because I had to reset at a certain point which put me back like twenty minutes. It wasn't long, but I figured I should just gather my focus and try again another time. It happens.
365 Days of 2017 - Day 79
Today was a great day.
I started out the Monday with work and just generally feeling out of it for whatever reason. I struggled for most of the day to really feel energized, and I was definitely spacing out a lot. I was productive after I fumbled around a bit, but it was a weird morning. Wasn't sick, just out of sorts. After lunch i really started to feel more productive and get a lot of things done. My meetings at night went better, but I was definitely struggling to focus.
But when I got off of work at night, I got an email that was saying I was getting published!! That was honestly one of the biggest highlights I've had in a long time, and I'm incredibly excited to know that my work is going to be citeable in academia. Granted it was my grad research that wasn't the most academically rigorous in the world, but I'm still INCREDIBLY happy and kind of already thinking about what i would like to do next. I might do a more extensive literature review on social media use. It's a field of research that's still developing, so I think it would be good to look more into.
365 Days of 2017 - Day 78
This was a noticeably less exciting day. I rushed home early after my friend Ben so graciously made me some breakfast so i could get back in time for DnD, but we had to cancel last minute unfortunately. Once I got back, I just played some Overwatch like I usually do and cleaned up around the apartment a bit. Once 4:30 hit, I headed over to some coworkers' apartments for what a coworkercalled a progressive dinner. Basically, we started at one apartment with some appetizers and drinks and moved from apartment to apartment to have different parts of the meals. It was a lot of fun, and there was quite a bit of good food to be had. We all watched March Madness games while we were travelling from apartment to apartment, and the food was solid.
Once I got back though, I felt pretty terrible. I don't have any idea why, but I think Saturday was catching up with me a bit with the travel, socialization, and a bit of drinking (not much honestly). Plus being around cats and sleeping in not my bed likely had an effect too. Whatever it was, though, it hit me HARD. I think I went to sleep around...I don't know, 11:15 or so which is pretty early for me. I just laid down in my couch and decided to not move for a while. It was a rough evening, but i wasn't exactly sick. Just not feeling well.
365 Days of 2017 - Days 70 - 77
A lot happened in the time since I was gone! Basically I went to Texas for a conference before coming back home. A lot happened and I had a good time, and thatâs really all I want to put on here. I put everything I did on my facebook, but just know I liked Texas and really enjoyed being able to work there for a few days.
WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND
So for all you feminists out their who think that all men should die, remember, you are not a feminist.
reblogging for the last comment
Legit question, Iâm not trying to hate on feminists or anything. Why is it called feminist if theyâre for equality?
castiel-knight-of-hell:
Thatâs a very good question and thank you for asking so politely.Â
The word feminism was coined by Charles Fourier in 1837, a French philosopher who advocated for the emancipation of women because he believed society treated women as slaves. We werenât allowed to vote, own anything, or work a real job. Women were ruled by their fathers/household patriarch until they married at which time theyâd be under the rule of their husband. If a woman did not belong to male household she was shunned by society and had very little means to make money, most of them unsavory. You know the idiom ârule of thumbâ? That comes from a running joke that started in the 1600s, and was still around in Fourierâs time, that said it was okay for a man to beat a woman with a stick as long as it wasnât any thicker than his thumb.Â
The point of the word feminist, and the feminist movement, has never been to say that women are better than men. The point is that women and things associated with women have been given a lesser place in society and we want to bring those things up to a place of equality. The focus is on the feminine because thatâs whatâs being pushed down. However, focusing on the feminine does not mean weâre focusing only women. Men are belittled and called âless of a manâ anytime they portray a trait that is associated with femininity. If women and the feminine were equal to men and masculinity then that wouldnât happen. Feminism is about raising up things associated with females to have an equal place in society as the things associated with males. Itâs called feminism, not equalism, because the focus is on raising up not tearing down. Equalism would suggest that male things need to come down to a lower level so that female things can meet it in the middle. Thatâs not the point. The point is to raise up the feminine so that itâs on the same playing field that the masculine is already on. We donât want men to lower themselves, we just want them to make room for us.
This needs to be spread far and wide to everyone on tumblr.Â
!!!!!!!!!!!!!IMPORTANTHOLYSHIT!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU
This needs more notes
We donât want men to lower themselves, we just want them to make room for us.
SAY IT ONCE AND SAY IT AGAIN. THAT IS THE POINT. THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE POINT. IF YOU THINK ITS SOMETHING ELSE, THAN YOU ARE NOT A FEMINIST AND HURT THIS CAUSE.Â

365 Days of 2017 - Day 69
Today was a pretty fun day. There were a couple of not fun things that came up at work, but the whole outside of work stuff was pretty good. I got back to my apartment and was about ready to pass out because I was so tired. I have no idea why other than I wanted to go to sleep, and I needed a lot of energy to try and get back into a productive mindset. After a while, I decided to go grab food and try and do a little bit of exercise in my apartment, which worked...slightly.
When I got back, I was still just completely out of energy. I had to do laundry today since I leave for a conference tomorrow morning, but I still just couldn't get up. I later got a text from a coworker to go out to the bar with some other coworkers, and that was probably the best decision I made all night. There was a lot of...well, I guess conversation would be the best word for it, but it was all weird. Hilarious and entertaining for sure, and I'm glad i went out. I'm pretty much as packed for the conference as i can be at the moment and have to wait until tomorrow for the rest of it. It still hasn't really hit me that I'm heading out tomorrow, but I'm sure when it's 10:30 and I'm scrambling to get the last of my stuff, it'll probably hit me hard. You'll see in the picture my duffel bag which is half of what I'm packing.
Let's go, Texas.
365 Days of 2017 - Day 68
Yeah, I'm a day late. Oh well. Basically, there was nothing too exciting that happened yesterday. We finally got hot water back in our area which meant I could take a shower again, but half the time it seemed to be spilling out some sort of sediment, so...I tried to avoid it as much as I could. At work, I went out to lunch with my areaâs Assistant Director and another person who worked on campus and had a pretty good time. Connecting with other people is always fun, and we got to have a lot of conversation about campus.
Otherwise, there really wasn't much exciting that happened yesterday. It was somewhat of a boring and generic day, but I really needed to just lie down and do nothing. I was ok with not too much happening.
Nike to release âPro Hijabâ for Muslim women in spring 2018
On the heels of its campaign ad featuring Muslim athletes, Nike is taking a stand against discrimination.Â
The athletic wear company announced the release of the âpro hijab,â Al Arabiya English reported on Monday.
âThe Nike Pro Hijab may have been more than a year in the making, but its impetus can be traced much further back, to an ongoing cultural shift that has seen more women than ever embracing sport,â a statement from Nike said, according to Al Arabiya English.
The âpro hijabâ is set to be released in spring 2018. Its creation follows years of controversy regarding Muslim women keeping their hair covered during athletic competitions. Read more (3/7/17 11:10 AM)

Asiya Sport did it first.  They also manufacture all their products in the USA, meaning they are an ethical company that doesnât just use the idea of inclusivity and female empowerment to sell products made from the exploited, outsourced, cheap labour of vulnerable women and girls.Â
Their mission is âto help enable more Muslim girls & women to be physically active and participate in sports, while upholding their religious and cultural beliefs.â

Asiya was the first to do this and they are a Minneapolis company!

365 Days of 2017 - Day 67
It still hasn't really hit me that I'll be in Texas in a few days. It's really weird to think about, but not anything bad. I guess I'm just not ready for a work trip for a few days where I'll be doing a lot of professional development while also being somewhere I've never been before. It's kind of weird. Anyway, today was an alright day. Ballroom practice was incredibly painful, and I feel kind of bad because i think I freaked out the instructor a bit. She was helping me adjust how I stood, but it took me completely by surprise and made me jump a bit, which made her think she hurt me. I can't help it if I have Kramer like reactions a lot of the time, but there was no harm done and I explained that to her. I learned a lot of good stuff and might actually go compete again in April. I won't by any means be 'practiced' enough to do well, but hey, that's how my last competition went and I did really really well.
The rest of the night was a mix of starting out playing Enter the Gungeon, watching the first episode of Survivor for the season, watching the first ten minutes of the new season of Drag Race, and watching an episode of Stein's Gate. That might seem like an incredibly lazy day, but given I'm at the point in my life where I can literally do anything I want to and I've been meaning to catch up on shows, movies, and games for a LONG time now, I'm definitely ok with this. Also, I'm half and half on this season of Survivor now. I really want it to be good and entertaining, but I'm seeing a lot that could lead me to believe it'll be a rough season. We'll see, but...I'm wary. Oh. Also, this season of Drag Race looks like it'll be amazing just from the first few minutes.
365 Days of 2017 - Day 66
Today was another pretty generally generic day at work. I got stuff done, and that was neat. One really weird thing that happened is I had a package addressed directly to me at work, which is the first sign that something's weird because everything gets addressed to 'professional staff' for the like...two accounts we actually use to order stuff because if I leave, then it can't be in my  name. Well it turns out some random basketball company sent us a free detachable hoop and was asking for advertising in return? We can't put those up though, so...free basketball hoop out of nowhere? It was real weird.
Also, I had my A1C checkup today with my pharmacist, and it turns out my A1Cs actually rose a little. Not much and they're still doing ok, but it was annoying realizing the progress I thought I was making wasn't progress. With that frustration in mind, I realized I should stop making excuses about going to the gym and actually go to the gym. I ran about 2 miles on a treadmill which is NOT something I do, and my ankles/shins were killing me at the end. But it was good to go back, and I know I can go at LEAST twice a week minimum. Also, I played a lot of solid Overwatch and wrote a little bit tonight. Slowly but surely, I'm doing fun life stuff.
Oh, and I'm wearing a baseball hat because I got it for free and I actually kind of like it a bit. It might make me look dumb, but eh. I like it.
