“I’m starting to think we’re not on the same page here. There are OTHER ways? Which ways would that be, exactly? If you’re telling me to just stand there while someone tries to murder me, you clearly don’t know me after all these years.” Even when he didn’t have his past memories, there had always been something inside of him waning to fight. You could erase his memories, sure, but you couldn’t erase something natural. Being a hunter and defending himself felt like a second skin. He’d even claim it was like riding a bike. You never really did FORGET. “Newsflash, Mathias. But if he guy actually managed to kill me, it would have been to late to tell you.” He would always defend himself. It didn’t matter who it was. If it got him killed, so be it. But at least he’d die knowing he tried to defend himself. He may prefer a weapon, but he didn’t need them to defend himself.
Did he care if he city learned what he was? Or what he was capable of? Of course he did. But only because the supernatural hated his kind and there was no telling if he actually murdered family or friends of anyone in this place. There was a time in his life he wasn’t proud of, but that was the past, wasn’t it? Some may not see it that way. “It isn’t your job to keep me safe, Mathias. I think I’ve proved I’m capable of fending for myself.” The only thing that would suck was the small friendships he had built with those who weren’t human.
“Do you always have to argue? I’m not asking for miracles!”
Yet perhaps he was, he knew who Calen was, he’d helped shape him, taking his memories, claiming him, and returning those memories. He was probably closer to Calen than anyone else in this city, and perhaps that was why Mathias still welcomed him in to his home despite the constant trouble he causes.
“Calen, I’m telling you to run, to gain yourself a minute so you can call me. I’d never expect you to lay down and take it, and you know that, but unless death is imminent, try to find a way to postpone the fight till help can arrive.”
He wondered if Calen would now state he didn’t need help, and no, he didn’t, if he planned on dying anyway, as the Alpha’s would grow bored of his constant punishments and mistakes sooner rather than later.
“No, but I’d be a shit client if I didn’t try to keep you alive. And i’d hope you’d try to keep a lid on what we both know for your sake, and mine. I want to keep you safe you peroxided little moron. You’re mine, I’m used to having you around, if you die, I have to start all over again, and with a fucking escort. It just doesn’t appeal to me.”
Escorts were too fucking high and mighty for Mathias, all those extra rights, the fact they had a say in their contract, he refused to be dictated to, he hated it. He wasn’t sure he’d ever find an escort he’d want in his home permanently, what he wanted, was Calen, back where he belonged, and ready to behave.
“So how about I start work on getting you out of that cell and you work on your behaviour around others?”
