To all my lovely followers who’ve supported me through this blog for the last 5 years... I graduated! My education journey is over, so no more study blog for me :(
There’s been so many times when I’ve wanted to give up but kept pushing on, no matter how hard I found it but now I’m a freaking graduate and it’s such a good feeling!
If you’re stuck in a rut with your education, just keep plodding on, you can do it!!!
How I take my notes
At the start of every lecture I fold my paper in half. Any notes from the lecture go down the left side of the page. After the lecture I add any definitions, extra reading, info from published journals etc. to the right side of the page.
This way I can make links between lecture material and extra reading, which gets the highest marks in exams! I highlight the citations for any published journals in red so they stand out and I can (hopefully) remember them in exams. I also make myself ‘checklists’ of the key content from every module so I make sure I don’t miss anything!
I did it!! That orange book I’m holding in the Polaroid is my undergrad dissertation! It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done academically but it’s all printed and bound and handed in. Now I just need to keep my fingers crossed and await the results while I finish my other assignments and revise for finals.
This whole uni thing has been one hell of a rollercoaster and while I’m excited for it to be over, I’ll also miss it and everyone I’ve met along the way. I struggled with my mental health a lot in my second year and honestly didn’t think I’d make it to this point. But here I am! On the home stretch. My final semester. And I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’ve got this. And you’ve all got this too!
Students who write entire dissertations in their second language… May we all bow down to your badassery? I can barely comprehend writing this thing in my own stupid language
*sits down at desk with full cup of coffee*
“Okay, time to start writing that dissertation.”
*stares at blank word document with a growing sense of alarm and confusion*
“…fuck.”
Jumping on to a new project, the grad student makes exceptional progress in denying his dissertation’s existence.
25.01.2017 – Working on some dissertation reading for my proposal due mid-term. The Geography tripos at Cambridge requires you to submit a proposal, risk assessment and ethics form in your second year, (typically) conduct your research over the summer straddling second and third year, and analyse and write up your research in third year - super early compared to most other degrees here! But it’s something I’m so loving, and I’ve had two supervisions for my dissertation thus far, both of which have been exactly what I hoped for in Cambridge when I applied. V exciting!!

d-1 to my first paper. I don’t just have a nervous system, I AM a nervous system.
