Haunted - theforgottenlegends
Jace had to admit, the hotel was unsettling. There was a certain… air about it. But right now, it was his only option to get away from a few people that wanted him dead. So he settled down into his room, lightly patting his pant pocket to double check he still had his brass knuckles and pocket knife. Mostly out of habit. He didn’t like being caught off guard. He sat on the foot of his bed nervously, eyeing the very small duffle bag he had that contained only a couple changes of clothes, basic hygine products, a block of wood barely bigger than the size of his palm and his carving tools.
After an hour or so, he was beginning to grow restless. And a bit hungry. So he wandered outside of his room into the old hotel, reminecent in style of the Victorian era, and made his way to the front desk to inquire about food. But no one was there. “Hello?” He called, looking around the area. No one. He frowned. Maybe the owners had already gone to bed. Well, he had seen a diner not too far down the road… he was positive that Pizza Hut wouldn’t deliver out to the middle of nowhere. Jace stretched and went toward the door, only to find it locked. He blinked in confusion, feeling goosebumps trail up his arms as the lights flickered and went out. This did not feel right.
The brunette was startled by the sound of the door slamming shut behind her, whirling around to find- no one. She gulped and pressed a hand to her chest as she tried to calm her breathing. It was fine, just the wind, the mansion was empty from what she could tell. The dim lighting inside unsettling her more than she'd like to admit. She clenched her cell phone tightly in her free hand. If something came up she had her phone, and she had friends outside who saw her going in with their own eyes. There was absolutely nothing to be scared of.
Calmer after the pep talk, but still skittish after the door slamming shut she wandered as confidently as she could deeper into the mansion. It was empty, and strangely quiet but for the sound of her footsteps on the hard ground. "Excuse me," she called out into the murky interior. "Um, my friends and I got a bit lost. If anyone's in here, I'd appreciate some help." She looked in the direction of a quiet hiss somewhere towards her left. Nothing. Just an empty room with sparse furniture. How strange. She chalked it up to the wind as she wandered deeper into the building. Ahead there was a hallway, and beyond the hallway a larger room. If she strained she thought she could hear footsteps and the sound of someone murmuring to themselves. She smiled to herself. Ah, there was someone in here then. Good. She walked into the hallway and ignored the feeling in her gut that something was wrong. ( She'd be gone in about ten minutes anyway. )
