“By the way Mama, you totally sounded like Rose Quartz when you said that.”

“Well, we are both large and beautiful. But I didn’t give up my physical form to have you or your siblings, so no, I’m not secretly a Gem.”

“Aww.”

“Well...maybe being a human isn’t so bad.”

[thegingersnapdiary]

“Really?”

“Yeah. Humans have limitless potential, you know? We find ways to do the impossible if you give us long enough. We’ve even gone out amongst the stars.”

“...I never thought about that before.”

“Maybe I could even go to one of those millions of stars out there.”

“Oh, I don’t know Lily. Being a human on Earth seems pretty great to me!”

“’Cause I think about it a lot. If I weren’t human, there’d be a lot I could do! Imagine if I was a fairy! Or a witch! Or even a Crystal Gem! I could do all sorts of things.”

“Hey Mama?”

“Yeah?”

“Do you ever wonder what it would be like to not be human?”

“...I forgot that all the good Gems are already on Earth!!”

“Should we stop looking for them then?”

“Maybe just for tonight. We don’t need a Jasper situation.”

“The Gem spaceship on TV was a hand, right?”

“Yeah. But maybe this one will be something different!”

“Weren’t the Gems on the spaceship bad though?”

“Do you think we’ll see them tonight?”

“Maybe. Anything’s possible.”

“OH! Look to your left! No, your other left!!”

“What is it?! Is it a spaceship?!”

“No, a deer!!!”

“Aww.”

“Deer are awesome Lily, don’t be like that!”

“What sort of aliens are we looking for today?”

“Gems!”

Encouraging Lily’s imagination is a common theme in bonding with her. Wednesdays are alien searching nights.

“Do you think it’s too early?”

“Yeah, probably. But it doesn’t hurt to look!”

“Get comfy Duchess Cotton Candy.”

You know, I’ve always wondered why their tea parties were over three hours long...

“Sigh...Papa, did you read the extended histories I wrote?”

“I read the first three volumes...”

“Alright, we’ll take it from the top!”

“W-wait, how long is this gonna take?!”

“Have I not done enough for them, Duke Cobalt? War against the night children would be madness. I’ve seen what they can do. I cannot take that risk. Not again.”

“Look, Lady Marigold...politics is not my strong suit...and I have no clue what you’re talking about...”

“The witch class is threatening a revolt.”

“What?”

“After all I’ve done for them! When their kingdom was destroyed by the night children, I offered them a place to stay! And now that I won’t spare my army to help them reclaim their land, suddenly I am a tyrant??”

“Uh.”

“So how fares things in your corner of the world, Duke Cobalt?”

“Ah, same as always. Sundial’s doing well. How’re things with you?”

“Ill news, I’m afraid.”
