Cleaned up our most “controversial” shirt design and put it back up in the shop. Here’s the story of why it’s “controversial.” The idea for the shirt came one night sitting drinking in a local punk rock dive with some friends. My one friend said “Punk rock is dead” as if he was being profound. So giving him a gentle ribbing we start saying equally faceteous statements. When I said “yeah man, Bluegrass is Dead” my frien Steven Gevenich from the @miserymountainboys said “I’ll buy that T-shirt!” I said “done!” And immediately messaged @oldmandesign to come up with a design. We went with a riff on the Sec Pistols God save the Queen to reference the Punk is Dead statement we were joking about in the first place. Anyway, the shirt actually sold really well as tour merch but eventually a few people in the Bluegrass community came across it, and not being in on our very inside joke, took offence. So, for the record, we love Bluegrass and it’s pioneer Bill Monroe. Anyone who has heard our music can easily tell how much Bluegrass has influenced our sound. Whether it’s funny or not is a matter of taste and no one has ever accused us of having taste. But it was one of our better selling Shirts so I guess there is no accounting for taste after all. Either way, I felt to justify the T Shirt we should maybe have a song called “Bluegrass is Dead” and we worked one up. It’s been in the set for a while now and will be on our forth coming record “More Noise, in an already noisy world.” The song itself being a bit of hybrid of Hardcore Punk, Bluegrass and maybe a little garage rock.” TL;DR we’re taking a chance by posting a somewhat controversial shirt design back in our store! 2020 was weird, sometimes tough and confusing. Despite that it had it’s great moments too. There is still so much to be grateful for. I know years are just arbitrary measurements of time but New Years is still a good time to mentally reset and put your best intentions forward.
