the concept of young Kratos weighing literally all of his relationships on how they reflect onto Deimos

Kratos liked Amara but Deimos liked her more so he might have very well stayed away (depending on how you choose to see it)

Kratos deeply admires Eis (names his SON after him) but Eis clearly favors Deimos, so that might've been a huge factor in Kratos liking Eis at all,

he falls out w Brontes over Deimos, despite admitting to the Kryptoa (sic) that he KNOWS Deimos isnt ready yet still would rather throw his fate with Deimos,

He disliked Vasilis but did ALL THAT for Deimos (almost saying exactly what he once said to Atreus, just following Deimos's whim no matter what he himself believes),

he likely only and eventually forms a relationship with Lysandra because Deimos said she was nice and not to mess that up…

all this taking into account the high chance that Deimos might've been kidnapped shortly after the game.....Kratos lost his brother, likely lost Eis shortly after, who knows what happened to Amara and Brontes.....the only thing he tried to do to honor him was probably courting Lysandra, which makes the fact that this is a story about Deimos told TO calliope all the more painful....to say nothing of the fact that calliope herself was a troubled pregnancy OH MY GOD
