Narcissus Island, where you can feel the smell of spring approaching.
the god enjoyed the way she fitted so perfectly against him. how her lips matched his, soft and gentle. how the taste of her mouth lingered, making him daydream of the next time he would see her again. he let her lips brush his cheek just as gently as she was. a soft smile rested on hades' lips, and when she pulled away, his eyes opened to find hers. he had never allowed himself to feel like this before, to let someone in.
he had never allowed himself to understand what love felt like until persephone. even if, in the beginning, he had used her to prove a point, to make those cruel tales about him real ... never once had the god imagined he would one day be willing to give his life for her. ❝ i don't think i have a say in that, do i ? ❞ he teased.
his hands fell to hers again, holding them as if he was still trying to understand why she had chosen him. why she had found in herself a reason to care, a reason to love him. those crimson eyes lifted once more, meeting hers as they drifted over his wounds, wounds that were slowly healing now. ❝ we've grown together ... somehow leaving the past behind. i'm glad you found a way to forgive me. as you say, to like me. ❞
his voice softened into a whisper as he raised her hands to his lips, pressing gentle kisses to each of her knuckles. ❝ i like you very much as well, persephone. ❞ it was more than liking. he knew that. he loved her in a way he had never loved anything before. and the realization terrified him as much as it saved him.
Persephone sheepishly smiled in mild embarrassment toward Hades' remark and she shrugged playfully. "You'll be safe in the springtime I assure you." She teased him. But then her eyes widened, thinking of the reality of what awaited them. Winter would arrive in a few months and for as much as Hades' visits helped in the spring, they could not be together everyday. That notion that once brought her relief now summoned melancholic thoughts. "Although in the winter, we'll have to make up for lost time. Those are the rules, I'm afraid." She remarked playfully, trying to lighten the mood again.
Her eyes drifted to their hands, enjoying the feel of his hands in hers. Her smaller dainty hands fit so perfectly in his grasp and she didn't want him to let go. He agreed with her observation and it was true she found her own way to accept him. She wasn't sure if forgiveness was the right feeling but she was able to look past their struggles from the start. She wondered if circumstances were different, she would accept a proper proposal if he tried courting her. "The past will always be there, Hades as I am reminded of it every time I leave with the changing seasons. But I needed time to get to know you beyond my first impression. And with you for me. I can relax in your presence. I enjoy spending time with you. The fact that I am sharing your chambers now means a lot!"
Hades' gentle gestures swayed her into a romantic mood. The butterflies in her stomach, the coy shyness from affection. Such sensations she never felt to this degree before. She never thought he was capable of such soft affection but these past few years enlightened her to a side he kept from her. Her smile grew even larger as he stated a similar sentiment toward her and her heart acted for her without thought. Leaning in toward Hades again, she threw her arms over his shoulders. Moving herself from her seat, she sat herself in his lap. She finally felt comfortable to embrace her husband with physical affection now that they were honest about their feelings for each other.
"Can you stay for the rest of the day? Surely, Thanatos and Hekate can handle the realm without you. Please?" Persephone chuckled as her eyes fixated on him.
@unseencne asked: it feels like a big waste of time.
Persephone chuckled as she adjusted her chiton to pin it over her shoulder. Hades started visiting Persephone more and more during the spring and his presence helped their separation more than she could admit. When once they would purposely avoid each other on Olympus, Persephone happily stood by her husband when he was required on the Mount. She could distract him or take over whenever he didn't care to interact with others. Spending more time with him lead her to read him better. When she once enjoyed adding in his annoyance, she took it upon herself now to help keep him at bay. A queen's duty to her king never stopped.
"You think any time away from the Underworld is a waste of your time...except when you are visiting me." Persephone clarified, smiling at him in the reflection of her large mirror. She spun around and stepped closer to Hades, still with a smile on her face. "We don't have to be there for long. Just long enough for everyone to see us. We can steal some treats and then leave." She proposed as she took one of his hands in hers. She kissed his knuckles and then squeezed his hand affectionately. "I'll bring a basket in with fresh flowers from my garden as a favor and then hide the basket for our treats later. We could make this a game. The person who steals the most food gets a special treat when we come back here."
@angcltouched asked: ❛ are you okay ? ❜ (ares)
Persephone turned around in a swift move, grabbing the dagger that once belonged to her dear friend for protection. She was hardly qualified to wield it. Narcissus promised to train her to use such a sharp weapon properly but he died before her training could start. She sought an outlet to release her anger over her best friend's death, thinking a hunt like she used to join him on could distract her. Her naivety overpowered her sensibility and her clumsiness lead her to trip over a large rock as she ran from a suspicious noise. Her temple was bleeding ichor, an ugly sight but one the war god wasn't unfamiliar with. She was embarrassed nonetheless but perhaps Ares was a better option to find her in a such a state. She didn't fear judgment from him unlike the other gods.
"No. No, I am not." Persephone admitted as she dropped the dagger. She moved herself to sit back against a nearby tree and closed her eyes. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes, noticing Ares hadn't moved an inch. "Is there a stream nearby? Some water so I can clean myself off? I don't know this forest well. I'm out of my league here."

@angcltouched asked: ❛ can we put this behind us ? ❜ (apollo)
"Sometimes I think about what would have happened if I agreed to one of your proposals. Even with my mother rejecting all of you, it still would have been my decision to accept. My choice. Perhaps a better outcome than what actually happened." Persephone mused as her eyes drifted off to her hands holding each other nervously. While she felt peace having returned to the world she knew for spring, she was obligated to leave for the Underworld every winter now. The cruel reality of being split between two worlds. This wasn't the life she wanted. Could everything been prevented if more than just her mother searched for her?
"If any of you truly cared for me, you would have searched for me. Helped my mother. Prove to not only her but to me, that your admiration was beyond physical attraction. My safety and well being mattered above all else." She determined as she released her hands and steadily looked at Apollo. Dark eyes affirming her statement. "I know now courting me was simply a sport. Just another plaything before you got bored and found something new."

Pers is not picky but also picky at the same time? When she was younger, she was very open to receiving affection and attention but as an adult, she's kept her heart guarded. But once she's started to fall for someone, she's committed fully.

@angcltouched asked: “Girl, you look good enough to eat.“. (aphrodite)
Persephone looked down at the gown that dressed her body, a garment she spent many hours sewing herself. Something a little more grand than she was used to wearing simply for the occasion on Olympus. Her appearances weren't frequent on the Mount as she and her mother lived elsewhere. She thought perhaps make a memorable impression as many may not have seen her in years. Almost like a debut as she was growing older. Perhaps she could make new friends and catch the eye of an admirer.
"I haven't heard that expression before but it sounds like a compliment?" Persephone remarked as her eyes returned to the goddess before her. "I wanted something elegant but not too much. Still me. Are the sandals okay? I'd prefer to go barefoot but this isn't the place for that, is it?" She chuckled as her hands smoothed themselves down the skirt of her dress.
crimson eyes fell on the goddess with curiosity when she spoke of having more children. he had no idea she still carried the desire to be a mother again; many years had passed since their daughters were born. the thought susprised him just as much as the first time they had spoken of children. back then he had been terrified of the idea. of failing, of being a father. but persephone had trusted him. she always had. ❝ are you trying to tell me you want to be a mother again, love ? ❞
his voice carried a teasing warmth now as his steps guided him toward her. his hands settled on each side of her waist, pulling her gently closer. ❝ i'd rather let them live a little longer and have another child of our own than have someone call me a grandfather. ❞ he leaned forward slowly, pressing a kiss to her forhead. a soft smile lingered on his lips before he moved back just enough for his crimson eyes to find hers again.
❝ now you won't let me rest until i say yes, will you ? ❞ there was admiration in his tone; he had to give her that, her will had always been stronger than most gods he knew. the idea of costumes still amused him, though he pretended resistance. ❝ will it be a private party, just you and me ? ❞ a wicked smile curved on his lips as he provoked his wife. ❝ that might make it easier for me to say yes. ❞
"I won't lie and say I haven't considered it before." Persephone confessed, shrugging her shoulders. She didn't imagine a large family with Hades when she initially brought up the idea to him many years ago. It took some time for him to come around to the notion. She saw the potential in him to make a good father and she was right after all. Two children seemed to be a sensible number; daughters born a couple of years apart from each other. But she couldn't help but wonder about possibly expanding their family again. "The idea sometimes pops into my head especially for a little prince. But that's out of our control. Maybe I am only destined to bear you daughters. With you and Cerberus as the only men of the house."
Persephone rolled her eyes at her husband's remark but she smiled at the sensation of his kiss. "You may get your wish. Our girls seem more focused on their domains than marrying off and starting families of their own. It appears it remains up to us to populate the Underworld with new gods." She laughed as she relaxed under Hades' grasp. She looked up at him with curious eyes, wondering if there was any truth to his statement. "But what specifically about being a grandfather doesn't excite you, Hades?" She questioned him, tilting his head as she awaited his answer.
"I'm a strong determined queen. I will get my way one way or another." Persephone proclaimed, mirroring her husband's smirk. "Hades, as if I would share you in such a state with anyone else! You in a costume is a sight only I am privy to." She assured him as she rested her hands on his chest. Her dainty fingers started to fuss around with the buttons of his shirt, not attempting to unbutton them but rolling them around between her thumb and pointer finger. A playful gesture for their teasing.
@unseencne asked: ❛ why is this so important to you ? ❜
"It's important to me because I want my mother to know the truth." Persephone started. Hades and Persephone didn't hide the fact that their relationship was that of lovers and not miserable strangers stuck together in the Underworld but they kept their physical affections minimal in public. Whenever both Hades and Persephone were on Olympus in the spring, they interacted more instead of purposely avoiding each other. To the outside, they were getting along but it was more than just friendship. Love between them grew and it was about time Demeter knew.
Persephone couldn't lie or downplay their relationship anymore when her mother asked about her and Hades. More than just awareness, she wanted Demeter and Hades to make peace. The wounds the abduction left Demeter were still present and she hoped her mother would see Hades in a different light. Not necessarily forgive him but be relieved that he cared for her daughter. That the ugliness and fighting was over.
"You don't have to meet with my mother immediately. But I do want the three of us to talk soon. She needs to know that this marriage is actually one of love and not of spite anymore. You two are the most important people in my life and I would prefer the both of you to at least be civil. Not just for my sake but because she is your sister too." She took Hades' hand in hers and placed it against her warm cheek before kissing in the inside of his palm. "Some time before winter begins? I don't think my mother would venture to the Underworld."
@unseencne asked: how many times?
"Four times! Four proposals!" Persephone answered, almost in disbelief herself at the number. She never knew anyone else to have so many proposals for marriage except Aphrodite. She didn't know what she did to receive so many. Her beauty was mentioned but there was more to Persephone than her physical appearance. She knew some of the gods better than others but the pressure to choose was unbearable. And with Zeus being bombarded with offers for her hand in marriage after Demeter's disapproval, a contest for his daughter's hand in marriage seemed like a solution that was fair. But not for Persephone. Not when her own opinion wasn't considered.
"Apollo, Ares, Hephaestus and Hermes." She revealed the names of her potential suitors. "So you understand the dilemma. Four men all asking to marry me at the same time. It's too much. Even for a goddess." She added, laughing anxiously. "Hopefully they can all forget about me down here. Give them a few weeks. Maybe a month to find other brides. I just hope father doesn't try to arrange me when I return."
@unseencne asked: “Don’t look at me like that.”
Persephone's brow arched curiously before a smirk spread across her lips. Her whole body was completely turned to her husband, facing him as directly as she could as she sat in her throne. The queen always tried to find an opportunity to annoy her husband; her own personal form of revenge for the predicament he put them in. If divorce wasn't possible, she could at least torture him in different ways.
Hades was without Persephone's lingering eyes for six months and now as it was winter, they were stuck with each other again. They would have to endure each other all over again. She only wondered how long he would stand her presence before departing. "What? You don't like others admiring you? I find that hard to believe." Persephone snickered as she propped her elbow on the arm of her throne and rested her chin in the palm of her hand. She leaned in a little closer, her dark brown eyes studying him. "It's been six months, Hades. I have to make sure nothing's changed. You are paler than normal. But don't worry. I'll bring the color back to your face." She laughed again, teasing him.
❝ i don't believe i can fool them the same way i did when they were still young. ❞ his voice was calm, gentle, carrying the echo of memories long past. of small hands tugging at his sleeves, of daughters crawling into his lap, begging him to teach them how to cook, how to play the piano. little secrets he had once kept from the world ... until he learned to share them with the three of them. with persephone too.
those days were gone now. their daughters had grown powerful, rulers of their own lands. no longer swayed by stories meant for children. ❝ even if sometimes i wish i could. ❞ he added with a soft tease. his hands rested easily at persephone's waist, thumbs tracing absent minded circles as he admired her for a moment before speaking again.
❝ very well. then i suppose i must find enough candy for us to share. ❞ but her next words made something unfamiliar flicker in his crimson eyes. costumes ? surely she did not mistake him for a mortal. the laughter olympus would erupt into if they ever learned persephone had conviced hades to wear a costume.
❝ that is asking far too much. even for you, persephone. ❞ he said, tone dry bu amused. a small smile betrayed him as he leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. ❝ i will allow you to dress up and decorate to your liking. but do not think, for a moment, that i will be doing the same. ❞
"They are know better now. But precious Macaria held on longer than Melinoe. Her ghosts outted you." Persephone recalled with a snicker. Keeping secrets from Melinoe was almost impossible as she could easily send her ghosts out to sneak around and discover the truth. But for as strong as their youngest daughter's gift was with summoning and controlling ghosts, her parents were just as strong...even stronger in that regard. They were the rulers of the Underworld after all. And they certainly could sway the ghosts away when they wished to.
A sentimental smile summoned by memories of their daughter in their youth remained on her lips for a little while. They were grown now but still remained her little princesses in her eyes. It was a feeling she never thought she would experience as Hades was once hesitant on starting a family. And knowing how well suited he was to be father with daughters who adored seemed silly in hindsight. "Perhaps we could always make another little princess...or prince for you to fool. Or just wait for the girls to make us grandparents. Grandpa Hades...that would be adorable."
Persephone's brow furrowed despite Hades' playful rejection. She was determined to convince him to join in the festivities in some capacity. Even if it was just between them. "Not even just for me?" Persephone purred with a pretty pout. "Oh come now, my king. Indulge your queen for once. I'll let you pick our costumes. I can easily make them and then burn them after to rid of their existence. Please, love."
P E R S E P H O N E
and in seconds, the feeling of her lips against his own was gone, as was the warmth of her hand against his cheek. it pulled the god back to reality, forcing him to open his eyes and find persephone already bent over his wounds once more, carefully tending to him as if nothing had happened. for a moment, he said nothing. he simply watched her. the way her cheeks slowly turned red, the way her hands now trembled ever so slightly as she worked. a soft smile curved his lips, she was confused by what had happened, perhaps as much as he was. and yet ... they had both enjoyed it.
he already missed the feeling of her lips against his own. missed it enough to know he wanted to feel them again. when her eyes finally met his, there was nothing but gentleness in his gaze. ❝ it crossed my mind many times too. ❞ the god admitted at last. he could not lie to her. so many times he had dreamed of kissing persephone, of feeling her like this. and yet he had never dared. ❝ i feared you wouldn't want me to. ❞ he confessed softly. not after everything that had happened between them. not after what he had done.
but somehow, it seemed they had both grown pass it. ❝ yes ... we can. ❞ he whispered, the words barely leaving his lips. this time, it was him who leaned in. his fingers gently held her chin, tilting her face upward. slowly, reverently, he pressed his lips to her again. softer still, allowing himself to melt into the kiss she had already claimed once before.
A satisfied hum vibrated from her lips as Hades followed her request. His touch gentle and guiding on her chin, easing her face into perfect position. She closed her eyes, letting him lead the moment and she wondered why it took her so long to express her desire toward him. She hoped one day he would make the first move but as their relationship shifted, she understood now he was allowing her the space to determine how they would proceed. While their marriage was because of him, now after all this time, he was letting her decide what it would evolve into. For that opportunity, she was grateful.
Persephone deeply pressed her own lips into his before they peppered tiny kisses up to the corner of his lips. Then her lips moved to his cheek, kissing him sweetly there before she backed away but again, only slightly. Still remaining close but enough space to look at him. She couldn't help but smile again. Smiling so widely, her cheeks started to feel sore. With Hades, sharing intimacy felt natural. The next step in their shifting relationship. She'd only ever kissed Adonis before but they were far from mutually romantic. The idea of love and romance she projected upon him and Adonis following along as he felt sympathy for her situation. They were trapped in a lie. And she vowed never to be intimate with another until she knew they cared for her back.
"Now, I may never want to stop kissing you. Are you prepared for that?" Persephone giggled as her pointer finger brushed his bottom lip. "And whenever you wish to kiss me, I will be more than happy to receive them!" She assured him. Her dark eyes fixated on his arm and then focused on his shoulder to where he was wounded. She leaned over, face hovering the top of his shoulder where he was not injured. She kissed his bare skin, softly and carefully. Her eyes still bore some guilt from his wounds but he would heal quickly. As he mentioned before, she protected him by tending to him in his wounded and bloody aftermaths.
"Is being attracted to my husband an odd thing to say?" Persephone mused, cheeks still red. "I do like you very much. I never thought we would become friends in the first place but these past few years have been different. We've been growing together and I feel a connection I don't know how to explain? She explained, dressing his wound with a specially made ointment.
