Information Updates and FAQs:
Thank you to everyone who responded to the interest check so far! We've been looking through all of your queries so far and will continue to do so as more come in. We would like to address some of the most common questions and concerns that have arisen from your insights. Please bear with us, and keep in mind it isn't always possible to meet everyone's preferences, we're choosing what we feel is the best path forwards for the Zine.
We have a timeline and a set of guidelines so far, but may continue to refine them from here if we need to.
OCs (Including Custom Durge)
I started this idea with inclusivity in mind. BG3 is a game revolving around your OC or Larian's original character(s). There are an amazing and wide variety out there! We will be allowing them, but with guidelines. This Zine is centred on the game's Villains.
When including your OC/Durge/Tav, the Villain should remain the core focus of the piece. This also means we won't be looking to include OC / OC content, as we want to highlight the canon villains of the game that everyone is familiar with. We still encourage you to submit pitches of your OC/Tav/Durge with a canon Villain. For the purposes of this zine, we consider the Canon Default Dragonborn Durge to be a Canon Villain, so you're welcome to ship him with an OC if you would like to
Content Balance
We will be selecting more General Villain content in ratio to pairings; and each pairing will have their/its own slot(s). Example: MM, FM, FF, Other\*, CANON/CANON, Dragonborn Durge/oc.
Trans and nonbinary characters, including trans and nonbinary variants of canon characters, are of course welcome as a part of any applicable category
Regarding Censorship and Permitted Content Types
These are Villains. This is Fiction. We would like to see your creativity at the forefront of your pieces across a wide range of topics and tropes.
That being said for legal reasons we are going to set a hard limit and not allow any Underage Sex (and related content) or Bestiality (content with animal characters) within this Zine.
EVERYTHING ELSE IS GO! EVERYTHING! IF YOU ARE STILL UNCERTAIN, ASK.
Collaborating
We would like to encourage those of you who would like to collaborate on pieces to apply together with your pitches. As this is the team's first Zine project, we're not experienced enough, and don't have the amount of time required, to ensure that everyone who wants to collab can be matched up. Please feel free to use this time to make your plans or reach out to potential collaborators you'd like to work with before applications open!
What Makes A Villain? Who Qualifies?
Being a villain can mean different things to different people, but largely we consider a character to be a villain if they are, or could be, antagonistic towards a good aligned player. We'll be using D&D alignment as a guideline here too.
We understand there may be some disagreements on these decisions, but we ask that you respect the choices we make as we'd rather not get into any lengthy discourse over a fun fictional project!
This is a space for celebrating all the villains in the game and all the different ways they can be portrayed. We are open to them being their worst selves, as well as finding redemption, and everything in between. If you don't like a character or someone's interpretation of them, that's ok! But everyone has a place in this project all the same
There will be check in dates before the final submission dates, and we encourage participants to aim to complete ahead of the deadline so you don't feel too rushed at the end. Thank You
-The Grand deZine Team
