i like can not fucking get over this. gwaine not pushing merlin to accept his help. merlin pausing because hes so so used to doing everything himself with no help. but he folds and he asks for help from gwaine. and then he looks so stunned that he actually helped him immediately and without question... im nauseous

it’s just that merlin looks up at gwaine with so much vulnerability in his eyes. the physical positioning is visually prevalent in this scene because it is being used to symbolize the emotional transformation they go through. merlin starts out standing and essentially pushes past gwaine, but all throughout, gwaine remains steady and stable, reliable, someone who is there for merlin unconditionally. he had been there for an indeterminable amount of time just waiting for merlin, long enough he started fidgeting, but he never left, never wavered. and when merlin outright rejects his help the first time, he offers it again more clearly, because merlin never sees. he never sees. not when it’s for him. but gwaine went out of the way to make sure that merlin knew he was there for him. for him. because “probably don’t need my help, then” is just another way of saying “i got bored of playing soldiers” which is another way of saying “not arthur.” because gwaine isn’t in camelot to play knights for arthur. not arthur

and merlin opens to gwaine. he takes his help. he asks for no one else’s but gwaine’s thereafter

Leaving Percival on the ground, Arthur goes back to Merlin: "Percival may be strong, but he is not agile. I need the whole package."

"The whole package?" Merlin asks. [...] "Gwaine is the whole package!"

"Gwaine has the concentration span of a new born lamb!" Arthur replies, [...] challenging Gwaine anyway. [...] Gwaine pulls off his shirt for no good reason. Arthur gestures towards Merlin, 'What the hell?'

They fight and again, Arthur wins. But when he returns to Merlin this time, Merlin is laughing and says: "He let you win! [...] They're scared to offend you. After all, you're the king!"

[they’re ok with that]. we didn’t get to see it much but i just know they both were the biggest merlin enablers. (insert: lancelot encouraging merlin to use magic to clean a ruined shirt.) (also insert: just will’s entire personality). the fact that they never met is the biggest tragedy of the show actually.
