They say Mumbai never sleeps. But before the world started watching me with wide eyes and phone cameras, I was just a quiet admirer of the city I love. This is my story—from a single post to a movement that belongs to every Mumbaikar.
I wasn’t born in a boardroom or planned with spreadsheets. I was born in a moment—on a crowded local train, in a rain-drenched alley, in the glow of a vada pav stall under a flickering light. I began as a feeling: the kind you get when you stand at Marine Drive during high tide, or when the BEST bus driver waits just a little longer for an old woman to hop on.
In the early days, I was just a handle on Instagram—@TheGreatMumbai. A few hundred people liked my photos. A few thousand watched the videos. I posted what I saw: the soul of the city. The dabbawalas on bicycles, the theatre of CST station, the way sunlight hit the Art Deco buildings at exactly 5:42 pm.
But then, something happened. You started seeing yourself in my posts. And just like that, we were born.
You showed me your city through your eyes. You sent in stories, tagged me in reels, messaged me tips about hidden gems in Byculla or a forgotten bookstore in Bandra. You made me part of Ganesh visarjans, family picnics at Juhu, monsoon rides through the Ghats. I became your mirror, your messenger.
