honestly one of my favorite things about fanfic is when you can see the canon influences come out in really subtle ways. like a canon line thats mentioned once as a throwaway is suddenly the entire premise for a fic or it influences the characterization or something. its just so cool to see how people weave their ideas around a source material, especially if its not a detail i'd thought about before

(Modern setting AU of sorts??)

Simon is working as a gardener for the city after suffering an accident that left him without an arm. He has a dog (y'all already know the name (Yes it's Laika <3)) that he brings with him when he can. So one day he's at a park planting some trees and the dog gets loose and runs off without him noticing at first. Grace, who's a science teacher (yeah he's best at that), just happens to be walking by and notices, so he catches her and brings her back to Simon. BOOM. Meet-cute.
