He has been stuck on this one question for 10 minutes , and gosh , is he sweating ?? Grammar exercises should not be this much of a workout . In the frustration , steeped , he lets his pencil drop atop the page causing him such duress . Hands come up to his temples , & then move along to smooth his hair. 

“ Yuk-a-ko, ” 

The shift of a gaze , & the weight of his head atop his palms . A pathetic whine follows - the a lingers with it. It is obvious that he is waiting for something  -- at the very least , he wants something to happen . 

“ What did you do for question two ? ”

Was she a study - buddy / or an unpaid tutor ? With him shifting his chair closer to hers , sliding the worksheet along the table with him so they could look at it together , did it really matter ? He could only expect she had already gone through the whole page twice -- it only seemed fair to help him catch up !

Well , this was surely a ‘ way ’ to spend a lazy , Sunday afternoon . Confined to the Higashikata living room , a constant pitter - patter of rain droplets hit the glass, stream down, & continue along. Paired with the hmm’s & haw’s of the Nijimura boy , hunched over a coil - spine notebook , smears of erased graphite ; various scribbles & doodles & chicken - scratch adorning the page . How much productivity had this paper seen ? Ha.  

The characters of a language that felt so foreign in his hands ; why the hell did English have to be so hard ??? Uncomfortable scratch of pencil to paper , coupled with snickering -- he’s planning something -- but what ? Shaky lines slowly manifest into something more : a phrase .

Snickers bubble up into a triumphant “ ah - ha ! Hey , Josuke , I think I got it !! ” a call for his attention , he tears the page coil , & holds it up for peering eyes . 

THIS SOCKS.

The understanding of colloquialism compensates for the misspelling ; not that he notices his error ------- - this is a feeling of pride .

Perhaps it was awkward , gruff in its delivery . Nevertheless , it is as much of a greeting as it could be . Eyes drift from girl straight to her companion ; he must resist the compulsion just reach down --- he wanted to pet that dog so . . . bad . . .

It’s a prelude to the request ----- he looks back up to her , & he speaks. The lilt to his voice , errs a certain innocuousness , matched certainly by the question he asks -- yet , there’s excitement / expectant . 

( Do ghost dogs bite ? / Can you pet ghost dogs ? ) Okuyasu can only hope -- oh , the soft spot he held for animals.

There is a glint of amusement in his eyes -- ( or is it the light , a simple refraction of the brilliant , green display ? No , it was surely excitement ! ) -- his jaw , slightly ajar , the confirmation . How often , truly , did any Stand user get a chance to simply watch what a Stand is capable of doing ? ( How often are the powers he encounters not trying to cause him physical harm ? ) Needless to say ------ he’s impressed !

& when the display tapers off , the eager , bellowing whoops of a boy impressed tail just behind . Simple is , it does not take much to impress him .
